CHAPTER ELEVEN
– MERCY –
My whole life I’ve only seen a handful of bikers. Until the past few weeks where I’ve been rolling from one MC into the other. The door of church is open and I’m sitting between Sable and Kujo when bikers I’ve never seen before stroll inside.
They are wearing leather cuts with a Wisely Dicey patch.
A snake sneaking around snake eyes dices.
The President walks in first, behind him the VP, and two others, one of them has scars littering his skin.
Another one is talking to Barge and the way they smile and chat?
I think that one’s Lenz, Barge’s cousin.
The one with the president’s patch steps forward and offers his hand to Kujo. “Kujo Tweedy, Thorsten Rhyland. This here is my brother, Falcon. My VP, Macsen, and that guy over there is Jocko. You already know Lenz.”
Kujo nods and points out the bikers, introducing them in order around the table until he points at us. “And this is my VP, Sable Rustam. Next to him is his old lady, my daughter, Mercy Sheridan.”
“Ah, Mercy Sheridan.” Thorsten gives me a smile. “Sorry to hear about the trouble your uncle has been causing.”
I give the man a nod.
“Don’t worry, we’re going to handle the cleanup.
I already signed off on the papers so Lenz has the authorization to wire any money recovered during this operation to you for compensation from the sale of your mother’s house.
Sadly, we looked at their financial status beforehand, and they’re all in debt.
It’s probably why they sucked you dry. We’ve done some research and there was a shipment of drugs intercepted three months ago.
This could be the reason why they are in debt and are trying to fund a restart to make up for the hit they took.
Nonetheless, they need to be brought to justice. ”
I have to clench my teeth to prevent my jaw hitting the floor.
Strange how only a few weeks of dealing with bikers has shown me such a weird difference in clubs.
Where my uncle didn’t tell me anything, Sable gives me honesty, and the president of Wisely Dicey, who I just met hands out details as if I’m one of them.
Appreciating his words, I whisper, “Thanks.”
“I’m the one who should be thanking you, ma’am. We get to pull another MC off the streets for dealing drugs. There’s a huge bonus in there for us from the government when we’re the one handing them a case on a silver platter.” He grins and shoots me a wink.
Sable’s chest rumbles, making Thorsten roll his eyes.
“Rein it in, brother. I have no interest in any other woman. Not when I have the perfect old lady sitting in the van out in the parking lot. Did I mention she’s pregnant with my kid?
Yeah, she’s not only a stunner, but a damn fine special agent.
Well, Livi quit her job after she went undercover to bring down my club.
Technically she still has a contract with the government through my club, but. ..whatever.”
He grins while I feel my eyes widen. Holy shit, is he kidding?
Thorsten chuckles. “I can tell by the look in your eyes you’d like to meet my old lady.
” He directs his attention to Sable. “Is your old lady coming with us? If so, she’s welcome to stay in the van with Lenz, Livi, and I’m sure Barge will join his cousin.
Those in the van never enter the scene.” He leans forward and fake whispers, “Just the thought of my pregnant old lady near flying bullets knocks the air straight from my lungs. Did I mention the van is bulletproof?”
Sable doesn’t glance my way when he states loud and clear, “It’s her decision.”
“Mercy, would you like to be in the van with Thorsten’s old lady to watch from a safe distance?” Kujo asks.
Watch how they kick those assholes out on the street? The men who lied to me, who hurt me, who stole from me? “Yes, please.”
“Perfect,” Thorsten grunts. “We have all the arrest warrants, and backup is waiting two blocks away in case we need it.”
“Which we won’t,” Macsen assures.
The man Thorsten introduced as his brother, Falcon, snaps his fingers. He points to me and then throws his thumb over his shoulder.
“Sure,” Thorsten replies. “Bring the old lady to my old lady.”
I wonder why Falcon didn’t use words.
It’s as if Thorsten heard the answer straight from my mind when he says, “Falcon is nonverbal due to vocal cord issues. I’ve read your medical file.
Sorry, we never jump into a case without checking every damn person’s background.
Though, I have to compliment you on the huge progress you made, overcoming most of your anxieties and triggers.
Every person is different and even if it’s never completely gone, it still takes a load of work.
Anyway, huge respect for the struggle and keeping your head above water in the rough sea of life we all try to muddle through. ”
I can feel my cheeks heat and hate the sole attention focus on me. The compliments, which I’m sure they are, don’t feel like great achievements at all.
Relief hits me when I hear Sable ask, “Can we save the chitchat and get to the details? We will be in on the action, right?”
“Right behind us,” Thorsten assures.
Falcon snaps his fingers once again.
I feel Sable’s lips on the top of my head. “I’m going to walk her out.”
“Good but be sure to return fast because we’re leaving in ten minutes. If you’re missing out on the information we’re going to leave you behind,” Macsen states.
Sable flips him off. “Try to keep me away, asshole.”
We walk out of church and head for the van Thorsten mentioned. Seeing the van with the blinded windows makes my anxiety spike.
“Maybe I should stay here,” I whisper.
Sable turns me to face him and cups my face with both his hands. “I want you with me, protected by official law enforcement, okay? You heard it yourself, the woman inside the van used to be a special agent. Which means she’s very skilled to protect you.”
“And you?” I croak.
“Me?” He gives me a sexy smirk that makes my heart skip a beat. “I’m going to make sure your past is going to stay in the damn past so your path to the future is clear and wide open.”
“I like the sound of that.” A smile tugs my lips.
“Damn straight,” he rumbles and brushes his mouth against mine.
Staring into his eyes I muse, “Maybe then I get to follow weary dreams.”
“Darlin’, we’re going to make sure you will be able to follow any fucking dream you want,” he fiercely vows, and I believe every word he says.
“Thank you for everything,” I croak and kiss him.
For a moment I close my eyes and let myself feel every inch of this man’s warmth and the way he ignites fire inside my bones by a mere kiss. I’m still waiting for everything to come crashing down on me. Though, every minute I spent with Sable makes me believe my life really took a turn.
I mean, how lucky am I with all of those men stepping up for me the way they do? It’s hard to believe in good things when I’ve been drowning in negativity.
“Did you really spend those ten minutes kissing your old lady while you could have gotten the orders about what’s going down and how?” Macsen grumbles.
Sable slowly pulls back and brushes another kiss against my lips before he turns to face Macsen. “You can update me on the way over.”
A woman jumps out of the van. “Hey, you must be Mercy.”
“Livi?” I whisper.
She gives me a blinding smile. “That’s me. Come on, let’s get in the van so I can explain all the technical stuff to you. We’ll be able to watch everything the guys do.”
Sable kisses the top of my head and muses, “See you soon. Stay safe.” He glances over my head at Livi. “Keep her safe.”
“Will do,” she tells him with a firm voice.
I follow Livi into the van and am in awe of all the computer stuff surrounding us. Lenz and Barge both get inside as well before the door slams shut.
“Okay, this might become a little frustrating.” Livi chuckles.
“Believe me, I’ve been stuck inside a van so many times while my old man runs into a burning building or a house where gunshots are flying all over the damn place.
Still, we need to keep our asses in here.
Our job is to give them information about what is happening around them.
Meaning we’re the center of everything. Everyone communicates with us and we can contact everyone. Still with me?”
I give her a firm nod.
“Most of these cameras will be filled with different angles from the bodycams our guys are wearing. They each will also have an earpiece so we have a direct line to everyone. We will keep an eye on the surrounding area and have medics along with backup on standby.”
“Wow,” I whisper.
Lenz throws me a grin over his shoulder. “That’s right. Those fuckers going in are risking their lives, but we have their backs.”
I nod and some of the panic fades. Though, I’m still nervous as hell and hope everything goes as smoothly as they say it will.
Because I can’t think of anything happening to Sable.
Not when he’s the only person in my life right now I’ve opened up to.
The only person who makes me feel wanted, understood, and even a bit adored.
Finding this special person and then having him ripped from me would be the end of the line for me. Even the mere thought is too much. Swallowing hard, I shove the thought away and focus on the screens in front of me.
Today is the day one of my weary dreams needs to come true, especially when it involves bringing this havoc to a good ending. Or maybe the most important part is bringing Sable safely back to me. Only, reality has proven to suck, and life continues to dig a deeper hole for me to fall into.
