29. Givens #2
“I didn’t fuck her,” I said, shaking my head as I grabbed her wrist when she tried to walk away.
“I swear on everything, I didn’t fuck her.
” I got out of bed, and all her cousins and friends raised like they were waiting for me to pop off.
I took a step back so they would know I wasn’t on no fuck shit.
“I had two drinks, nothing major or crazy. When I saw her show up, I decided to step out cuz she was on some fuck shit. I started feeling funny; shit was weird. I hardly even remember getting to the car, and I don’t remember getting to the hotel.
When I woke up, it was because Infinite called me; she was in the room when I came out of the bathroom.
She swore we fucked, but I swear we didn’t. ”
“She was pregnant, Givens,” she sighed as if the conversation bored her. “She fucked somebody that night.”
“It wasn’t me!” I yelled, then stepped into her space.
“Why the fuck would I fuck her when I been in love with you from jump, DeCorte? Huh? I have been in love with you since you broke into my shit the first time. Why the fuck would I fuck that up?” When she didn’t answer me, I got pissed.
“Huh? I have been rocking with you for months. I fuck up one time and don’t know what happens, and now I’m the bad guy? Make that shit make sense.”
“You’re not about to turn this around on me, Givens,” she said, shaking her head.
“This is on you! You said you hated miscommunication, yet you have been lying for months! If you didn’t know what the fuck happened, why didn’t you tell me?
Do you know what you did instead? You ghosted me!
You disappeared for a few weeks, then came back around on some ‘I had a lot on my mind’ bullshit.
Yeah, you had the fact that you could’ve fucked your baby mama on your mind.
Then you had me walking around here thinking we were good, and you knew that bitch was pregnant!
I’m claiming your daughter as mine, my family holding us down, and you over here lying. ”
“DeCorte-“
“The only reason you aren’t dead right now is because I love you, Givens; remember that.
” She laughed softly and tapped her gun against my chest. “I love you enough not to kill you. I love your daughter enough not to let her walk around with the same pain that I deal with every day, knowing that my daddy isn’t here to see me as a grown woman.
” Her smile dropped, and her eyes got cold.
“But don’t think my love for you is everlasting or unlimited because it’s not. ”
She turned and walked from the room as quietly as she came.
I watched her cousins and friends leave, but none gave me a second glance.
I dropped to the end of the bed and rubbed my hands over my face.
My mind was racing, but I had to figure some shit out.
I grabbed my phone from the end table and dialed Pyrite’s number.
“Yeah?” he answered, sounding wide awake.
“I need the camera footage from the hotel when I was in Chicago,” I said as I went to the bathroom.
“Why?” he questioned.
“Cuz Mercy and her crazy ass cousins and friend just woke me up out of my sleep talking about she saw it and threatened my life,” I answered as I pulled my dick from my shorts so I could pee.
Pyrite started laughing, and all I could do was shake my head. His goofy ass would think this shit was funny. “I told you she was crazy,” he said once he got himself together. “Who threatened you?”
“She did,” I answered as I peed. “Told me she loved me, but her love wasn’t without limits, and she would do me like she did my baby mama.”
“She meant it, too,” he replied. “I saw the pictures. Shai is fucked up, but I bet that was Mercy’s point. She wants to show her that she can be touched at any moment. Shit is kind of dangerous, if you ask me.”
“Nigga, what kind of woman did I fall in love with?”
“A damn DeCorte,” he answered, then laughed again. “And before you start with your shit, we tried to forewarn you, but you didn’t listen.”
“I didn’t and don’t regret it.” I blew out a breath and laughed. “Now, get me that video so I can look at that shit.”
“I’ll see what I can do; Citrine is out of town right now.”
“How the hell did she see it, then?”
“Nine and Cross, probably,” he answered. “They own the security system that Citrine uses.”
“Makes sense,” I said, then shook my dick and put it away.
“Nigga, have you been pissing this whole time?” Pyrite asked. “What the fuck did you drink before you went to bed?”
“Shit, just water, but I ain’t gonna lie, waking up with a gun under your chin and five women sitting around my room with different weapons scared the fuck out of me.”
“Nigga, what?” he laughed. “They had guns?”
“Fuck nah,” I said, shaking my head. “Mercy had a gun; they each had something different.” I washed my hands and went back to my bedroom. “I’m about to get dressed, then head to your spot.”
“Givens, it's five in the morning.”
“Ask me if I give a fuck; me and Faylin will be there within the hour.” I hung up and headed to Faylin’s room to wake her up.
I wasn’t letting her out of my sight. After I showered last night, we sat down and talked.
Shai had told her some fucked up shit, even saying there’s a chance I ain't her biological daddy, but I wasn’t trying to hear that.
Faylin was mine, and I dared any nigga to tell me otherwise.
I knocked two times, and a few seconds later, she opened the door.
“What’s up?” she looked like she’d been up for a minute.
“We’re heading out, get dressed, we got moves to make,” I said, and she nodded.
I handled my hygiene, dressed, and met her at the car. Pyrite's house was about thirty minutes from mine. I started the car and hit the garage door opener.
“Mercy came to see me before she left,” Faylin said as I pulled from the driveway.
“She said she wanted me to know that she loved me even if y’all weren’t together, and if I needed anything, all I had to do was call her, and she’d be there.
” She looked over at me and smiled. “You’re getting her back, right? ”
“Yeah,” I answered with a nod.
“Good,” she said, crossing her arms over her chest and turning her attention to the road.
“Listen, Faylin, about what Shai said-“
“It doesn’t matter,” she said, cutting me off. “Mercy told me she had me for life, and I believe her. Shai may have birthed me, but the only mama I’ve ever had was Mercy.”
“I said talk to your brother,” I said as I stepped into Pyrite's office and found Nine sitting at the desk with a mug on his face. Even though I wasn’t scared of shit, I didn’t take my eyes off the nigga. I knew how his wife got down, so there was no doubt that he was just as bad, if not worse.
“And I told you Citrine is out of town,” Pyrite replied as he sat behind his desk. “I had to call Nine to get the information you needed.”
