Chapter 18
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Dropping my head, I fight the urge to scream out my frustration.
What a disaster. Wolf’s right. He deserves to know something.
“I promise not to tie you up in this mess any more than you already are. I didn’t mean for that to happen—the whole wedding–but as you can see, Nan is a force to be reckoned with. ”
Wolf shakes his head as he paces across the expansive circular driveway in front of me. “I can see why. She managed to get me married in five seconds flat.”
He paces. Long strides with his powerful legs. I watch. The more time passes, the more my sadness grows. This is my life. My fucked up, messy life.
Finally, angry tears burn through my resolve and run down my cheeks. “I hate this place.”
Pacing. Pacing. Cursing under his breath. Finally, he stops and looks me square in the eyes. “I hate a bloody liar, Kate. Nothing makes me angrier than to have a woman manipulate me.”
His vehemence stuns me. I just stare at him until I can regroup.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to manipulate you.
Really. I didn’t. And I know Nan did it for my safety.
” Tears burn at my throat, tightening my breath.
“She helped me leave last year. Helped me start a life in the States. She knew it was my only hope for getting away from here. But then I messed that up when I came to get her.”
A dark emotion passes over his face.
“All I need for you to do is help me get away from here and I’ll clean all this up. I promise.”
He glances up at the monstrous estate home behind me. “I can’t believe they fucking kidnapped you out from under my nose and threw you around like a piece of garbage.”
Crossing my arms, I shiver. “Roberto scared me, even though I knew they were probably bringing me here.”
He shoves his hand in his short blond hair. “I’ll be kicking my ass for that for the rest of my days. I’m just glad you weren’t hurt.”
“How did you find me?”
“Your Nan saw one of the vehicles from the estate leaving when she got to the hotel with Cole and Sierra. She knew something was up. I came out of the bathroom and found you gone and went apeshit.”
“I can’t imagine what Wolf going apeshit looks like.”
He shakes his head. “Let’s just say it involved me running around the complex in a towel with a gun. A lot of people scurried off to hide.”
That image makes me grin, even though the situation is anything but amusing. Wolf in a towel… I’m surprised women weren’t running at him, instead of away. “Two guns, actually.”
I might have just seen the slightest of grins on his face. “I stand corrected. You’re something, Kate. Most people would be in a puddle of despair about now.”
“Oh, this is nothing new. This kind of drama has been going on for a while. Not getting married or kidnapped, but let’s just say there have been problems. But to tell you the truth, I haven’t been in a good mood for months.”
His face hardens in a frown. “Not even earlier on the plane? I could have sworn you were in a good mood then. Or maybe all that moaning was some kind of temper tantrum.”
I grab his belt buckle and give him a tug. “Okay, so maybe I’ve been in one good mood in the past few months.”
With a growly sound, he turns and walks away. “Cole and Sierra brought lunch to the hotel. If you can manage to stick around this time, we might get to eat.”
