Chapter 29

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

I know that voice! Oh god. Oh no, oh no, oh no.

When I peek out of the bathroom, Wolf’s got my quasi bodyguard, martial arts coach, Mikail, in some kind of death lock on the floor.

Wolf jerks the belt out of Mikail’s jeans, and binds the man’s hands, then ties his feet with the extension cord from the lamp.

“You say another word and you lose all those orthodontic miracles in your mouth.”

I can’t make sense of what I’m seeing.

When Wolf looks up and our eyes meet, I’m clutching his dress shirt tight around me. “Don’t hurt him, please.”

“He’s lucky I didn’t snap his neck.”

“Please, let him go.”

For a solid ten seconds, Wolf just stares at me.

I nearly die on the spot.

His voice is as hard and as dangerous when he says, “Get dressed. We have a lot to talk about.”

I’m so shaky it takes what feels like forever to get dressed. I’ve never had so much adrenaline in my body. This one’s laced with dread and a hearty dose of guilt. I should have told Wolf about Mikail.

A soft knock on the door makes me jump. I draw a steadying breath before I say, “Come in.”

The door to the bathroom bangs open. Wolf, with a grim expression, steps into the small room, taking up every single spare inch.

My heart nearly ruptures inside of my chest.

He snorts out a breath. “Talk.”

My words tumble out. “I don’t know what he’s talking about. He’s not my fiancé. He’s my bodyguard.” Wolf’s silence is so unnerving it makes me feel faint.

Crossing his bulging arms, he finally speaks. “Your fucking bodyguard? Shouldn’t he have been with you during all this shit if he was?”

“No, I purposefully don’t want him with me.”

His color darkens. A vein rises and cuts a line across his forehead. “Did you fuck me because you wanted a different flavor of bodyguard?”

Oooohmygod. “No!”

The brows over his blue eyes harden into angry slashes. “Do you fuck him too, Princess? ”

My heart plummets to my feet. “You don’t have to speak to me like that.”

“ Oh really?! Because right now, I’m pretty fucking mad, and there’s another man tied up in my living room. A man who was ready to break my door down. Who looked at you like he owned you and says he’s supposed to be your fiancé.”

I stumble over my words. “Wolf, he’s a bodyguard. My martial arts coach. Not my lover. Or my fiancé.”

“Did you tell him you were coming here?”

“No! Why would I do that? I wanted to be alone with you.”

He clears his throat and steps closer. Heat pulses off his bare chest and erodes my strength.

“ Jesus. What a fucking mess.”

My face falls as I twist my hands together. “ I know.”

As Wolf steps toward the door his expression changes, the color of his eyes darkens even more. “There are a lot of things that don’t add up about you.”
