Chapter 12 #3
And there it was, a set. The main diamond wasn’t too flashy, but it said a lot. It said sorry for my fuck up but forever is on our horizon. It promised her that both she and our child would be safely rocking my last name. It said she was mine and I was hers and we had a lot of time to make up.
“That one.” I pointed to the lone diamond with what I considered The Supremes surrounding it. The band below it on the fake finger further brought it out.
“We call this one the forever. When a man points this ring out, he knows what he wants and he knows his bride. We are family from this day forward. I am Havi, you are Posydiann, and you are Killah,” he said with a heavy accent.
I nodded.
“I assume since you said this wedding is tomorrow and Killah said she does not know, you also don’t have a wedding band. We choose that here too.”
“Aight keeping it in one place.” Killah nodded.
We spoke for a while longer, mostly Killah cracking jokes, but the hard part of this evening was over, and for that, I was grateful.
We were leaving the store, having secured the ring, when Killah stopped me from moving. “Yo what the fuck we wearing?”
I shrugged. I literally hadn’t thought that far in advance.
He nodded. “We in here, we might as well ball the fuck out.”
When he said that, he meant just that. I stayed away from this expensive ass mall for a reason, but after today, I wasn’t stepping foot back in here.
It was last minute, so any and everything we bought was black, making sure there wasn’t anything clashing according to Killah.
Then leave it to him, since he was calling himself honorary best man, to get all the extra shit.
We were standing in Ninos when my phone started ringing, grabbing my attention. I stepped to the side, eyes locked on the screen. It was Iso.
“What’s up, bro?” I greeted.
“Why do I gotta hear you tying the knot tomorrow through my sister-in-law because Junnie just bought up the whole floral stock?”
I laughed. “You know me, man. Timing ain’t always the best. You sliding through with Sis?”
He laughed as well. “You know I am. Niggas about to make history on some Jagged Edge shit, huh?”
“Man, get outta here with that.”
By the time we got off the phone, Killah was walking toward me with bags of food. “I got your order. Since when you start eating steak sauce on your burger? Shit sounds sour.”
I shook my head. “I don’t even know. Syn asked me to get her one earlier and said she was craving it. Lowkey, that's all I've been eating.”
He laughed. “Not you with the pregnancy symptoms too.”
“Same thing I said.”
When we pulled back up to the house, I was surprised to see a black Range Rover parked out front. Due to Killah insisting on always parking out there, we parked right in front of it. I got out and immediately locked eyes with Kolton Curr, Karsyn’s twin.
“I got the bags and food.”
He got out of his car, then met me at the back while Killah carried everything in the house.
“Do you love my sister?” he asked, his question landing directly where it should have.
I nodded, not knowing where this conversation was going because I never got along with the old money type of niggas.
“Then that’s all that matters for me. Just protect her.”
“I got you.”
“But though that’s enough for me, it ain’t for our mother. Can’t act like you didn’t earn a few cool points walking in there earlier.” He chuckled.
“I feel that. I fucked up and I have every intention of fixing it.”
He nodded, then opened the back door of his truck. “I grabbed her shit. I had already gotten it before you said something. That whole situation didn’t feel right in there.” He pulled out a duffle bag and purse.
“As flawed as her idea was, she was doing it to protect you and some dumb ass shit about giving my child a father,” I responded, accepting her stuff.
Confusion filled his features. “What?” They looked so much alike, even though they weren’t identical. That’s how I was able to decipher his expression.
“If you wanna talk to her, she’s in there.”
“Nah, I’ma give her some space. She needs that… she needs you. I’ll be in touch.” He turned to get back in his car, but something in me had to stop him. Kolton and her mother weren’t her father. They loved her and she loved them, so they needed to be here tomorrow.
“Ay.”
“What’s up?” He turned back toward me.
“We’re getting married tomorrow. Around seven and she needs y’all there.”
His brow lifted. “Does she know this?”
I laughed. “Nah, probably won’t find out until the morning, but she ain’t gonna tell me no.”
He laughed as well. “No, she isn't, no matter how stubborn she is. My mother and I will be here around five, if not earlier. She’s sensitive about Karsyn.”
I nodded. “She can come whenever she wants.”
“Aight. We’ll be here tomorrow. Thank you for the invite.”
I was walking into the house after Kolton pulled off when I heard my name. I glanced up and my grandmother was standing on the porch.
“Don’t look confused, lil nigga. Bring your ass over here.”
I laughed. It felt like every time I looked up, something was stopping me from getting back in this house to her. But it was all good. Tomorrow was all about her being mine forever, nothing less.
