Chapter Six- Buddha #3
I listened as Snow took his phone and called Louis, instructing him to come to the pig farm because he needed help with something.
Just as I was about to leave to make my way home, my phone began ringing.
I looked at the number and had no idea who was calling; I did see it was an overseas number from Italy.
“Speak,” I said, answering the call after the third ring.
“Hello, is this Mr. Phillipe?” the voice on the other end spoke so softly that I barely heard what he said.
“Who the fuck is this?” I asked, ready to cuss the person out.
“It’s me, Enzo.” I froze in shock, wondering why the fuck he was calling me. I snapped my fingers to get Snow’s attention before I put the call on speaker.
“Enzo, why are you calling me?” My question was met with about five seconds of silence.
“I want to tell you the truth because I think Dior’s life could be in danger. Yours also, but I like Dior more than I like you,” Snow covered his mouth to suppress his laughter because he always laughed at shit that wasn’t fucking funny.
“Why would Dior’s life be in danger?” I asked him.
“Francesco and Luca, I heard them overtalking. They said you killed my father, and you may be coming to Italy for them. That’s when I heard them say they would hurt Dior if you forced their hand.
Dior is a nice lady, and I don’t want anything to happen to her.
Please watch out for her.” One thing Enzo said stood out to me.
“Your father, you know who your father is?” For a second time, my question was met with silence before he answered.
“Yes, I know my father. I met him when I was about five years old. My mother is not a bad person; she just makes bad choices sometimes. They planned everything from the beginning.” Snow and I looked at one another. I inhaled deeply on the cigarette I held in my hand.
“What do you mean, Enzo?” I asked, pinching the bridge of my nose because I knew I was about to get pissed the fuck off,
“Dior meeting me in Italy was not an accident, Mr. Philippe. I am sure it was not your idea to encourage her to go on the tour where she met me.”
I listened to what he said. Snow watched me as I got a faraway look as I tried to remember. At the front desk of the hotel we stayed in, there were flyers advertising the tour. Francesco picked it up and told me I should let Dior go so she wouldn’t be bored by herself in the hotel.
“Francesco, he was the one who suggested it.” I pinched my eyes even harder when I realized that this entire thing had been a setup from the start before we even got on the private jet to fly to Italy. It was Francesco who wanted my father to travel to Italy, claiming it was a job opportunity.
“That's where I came in. I needed to be there and ensure that you and Dior came back to my mother’s cafe. Then we had to act our part; my mother had to pretend that you were my father, and I basically just had to act as though I had no idea what was going on.” With every word that came out of Enzo’s mouth, the angrier I became.
“What was the purpose of all this, Enzo? What was the use of trying to make me believe that you were my son?” I asked, thinking of the different ways I would kill Francesco and Luca.
“My mother was hoping she would gain financially. She hoped that you or your mother would have given her some money. Her cafe needs it, and my father— well, Edwardo—refused to help her. Even though he found out about me, he isn’t much of a father.
However, Francesco told my mother about the diamond deal.
She knew that Edwardo and Francesco were going to sabotage everything.
She used that to blackmail Edwardo; she told him that she wanted to be cut in, or she would tell you what they were planning.
Francesco doesn’t care either way; he’s in love with my mother and hopes she’ll love him back one day.
“I know all of this sounds really bad, but my mother isn’t a bad person; she just makes bad choices.
Despite all she’s done, I love her; she’s a good mother.
Promise me that when you come for Francesco and Luca, you won’t hurt my mother.
” I listened to Luca, and when he was done, I focused on Snow, who had his mouth open in awe at what was said.
“How can I be certain all that you said is nothing but the truth? Are you lying to me just like your mother did?” I asked Enzo.
“No, Mr. Phillipe, this is the truth. My mother has no idea I called you. I want you to know the only reason I called was because of Dior. They said they would harm her if you show up here. I don’t want her to be injured as well as my mother.”
I smoked the last of my cigarette before I dropped it on the ground, stepping on it. “Well, I guess it’s a good thing you like my wife. Thanks for the heads up, Enzo.”
“You’re welcome, Mr. Phillipe. Remember, do not hurt my mother.” I hung up the phone and shoved it in my pocket.
“What the fuck?” Snow muttered, putting his hand on top of his head.
“I’m killing everybody, including that fucking bitch, Catalina,” I said to Snow. He nodded his head. Just as I was about to put my phone away, it rang again. When I saw who was calling, I got an instant migraine.
“Mothafucka,” I muttered, grabbing my forehead.
“What? Who is it?” Snow asked, looking at the screen.
“It’s fucking Ivan’s wife, Yelena. My fucking time is up.”
