Chapter Twelve- Snow #2
When we got to the front door, I parked and turned off the engine. Angel didn’t waste any time; she opened the door, hopped out, and immediately began walking. Not having any choice, I did the same and climbed out from behind the wheel.
With the key for the door already in hand, Angel walked forward and slipped it in, unlocking the front door.
Sticking her head inside first, as though she was expecting to see someone.
I moved her to the side and walked inside first to make sure there was no weird shit.
Angel cautiously walked inside behind me.
I slowly made my way further inside the house.
The last time I was here, I was surrounded by a few dead bodies; now it looked like nothing ever happened in this bitch.
“Was it here it happened?” Angel asked, looking around the room, hugging herself. I ran my hands through my mohawk because I’d rather she not ask these types of questions.
“Can you get your stuff so we can get the fuck on?”
“Damn, you grumpy. Hold on, let me go to my bedroom real quick and pack a bag. I’ll be right back,” Angel said, looking around once again.
She acted as though she was expecting to see someone.
I narrowed my eyes at her as she walked off; she was acting a bit strange.
Strange behavior wasn’t very uncommon when it came to Angel, but I could sense there was something she wasn’t telling me.
A jittery feeling suddenly took over me, and I walked over to the front door and peeked out from the window next to it.
I wasn’t sure what I thought I would see, but there was no one out there.
I remained right in that spot, standing watch until finally, I heard Angel’s footsteps making their way toward me.
Finally, she was back, and we could leave.
I had an eerie feeling as though Edwardo’s spirit was in the room with me, Angel was right, I was fucking scary.
I turned to ask if she had everything she needed.
My mouth remained open, but not a single word came out.
Instead of Angel standing, looking at me, it was Catalina, along with three men behind her and a short distance away…
Enzo. Where the fuck did Catalina come from?
There wasn’t any vehicle parked out front to indicate anyone was here.
So she must have parked inside the garage where Edwardo kept his cars.
“Mothafucka,” I muttered as Catalina looked me over with a grin on her face.
“I see you made it out of Italy in one piece. I always knew Francesco was a pussy. He had one job,” Catalina shook her head in pity. “Check him and take whatever weapons he has on him,” she instructed one of her men. I stood still as he came over and patted me down from head to toe.
Of course, my dumb ass left my gun in the glove compartment of my car. “He’s clean,” her goon said, moving away from me. I clenched my jaw angrily because this was exactly what Buddha warned me about. My dumb ass chose to listen to Angel instead. Where the fuck was Angel anyway?
“Where is she?” Catalina asked, shoving her hands into the pockets of the baby blue pantsuit she wore.
“Where’s who?” I asked, looking her right in the eyes as if I had no clue who she meant.
Catalina released a low laugh before she turned to another one of her men and nodded her head at him. I knew what was coming when he marched up to me, so I braced myself.
“Oof,” I grunted when he punched me in my stomach.
“Let me ask you again. Where the fuck is she?” Catalina repeated her question as I struggled to stand upright. That mothafucka punched me so hard, I felt as if he dislocated an organ. My liver was now where my kidney should have been.
“I’m right here bitch,” Angel’s voice made me curse under my breath. I was hoping she would somehow hear what was happening and stay out of the way.
“Aaahh, there she is,” Catalina said with a bright smile. I focused on Angel as she slowly made her way into the living room, holding the handle of a medium-sized suitcase.
“Is that what I think it is?” Catalina asked, walking over to Angel, snatching the handle of the luggage away from her.
“You know, you’ve always been a greedy bitch and a shitty stepmother,” Angel said. I narrowed my eyes at the way these two women were interacting with each other. Somehow it felt as though neither were surprised by the other’s presence.
“Oh yeah, well, you’ve always been selfish like your father.
” Catalina got to one knee and unzipped the suitcase.
She smiled when she stared at the contents inside.
Easily, there was a million dollars in there along with a few pieces of jewelry.
Angel was full of shit as usual with her lying ass.
She wanted to come back for this money, and from what I’d guess, she knew Catalina would have wanted to come back for it too.
I looked at Angel, and my eyes said everything that my mouth couldn’t, because she was in big fucking trouble once Catalina didn’t have her men kill us.
I turned my attention to Enzo; he just stood there with a look on his face I couldn’t read.
I’m not certain whether he agreed with everything his mother was doing or not.
However, what could he do? He was just a teenager.
“Go stand over there next to your man,” Catalina instructed Angel before zipping the suitcase up and standing. Angel avoided eye contact with me as she walked over and stood next to my side, as Catalina requested.
“Now, what do I do with both of you?” Catalina muttered softly, looking at both Angel and me. As she contemplated whether to end our lives or not, Enzo walked over to her and whispered in his mother’s ear. With a stone-faced expression, she looked at her son before rolling her eyes.
“Uggh, it seems as though my son has a soft spot for pregnant women,” Catalina said, looking at Angel and then at me as she grabbed Enzo’s hand. “It’s a good thing I’m nothing like my son.”
Mothafucka! I shouted in my head when Catalina signaled for her men.
Enzo looked at his mother and began shaking his head, begging her not to kill us.
His pleas fell on deaf ears as one of the men took a gun out of his waist. There was nothing I could do because I couldn’t possibly take on three men.
I did the only honorable thing I could think of.
I stood in front of Angel in a last bid to protect her and my unborn child.
“The least you can do is let my girl and baby live, Catalina,” I begged as the man with the 9mm in his hand made his way over to us.
Pow! The sound of a single shot made me close my eyes because I just knew I’d been shot.
However, that shot was quickly followed by a hail of bullets.
Everything suddenly turned chaotic with Angel and Catalina screaming.
Once I realized I hadn’t been shot, I turned and grabbed Angel, shouting for her to get down on the ground as I lay on top of her, shielding her from the barrage of bullets that flew over our heads.
The room fell silent, and I slowly opened my eyes. Hurried footsteps ran inside the room, and I heard men talking, but they weren’t speaking English; they were speaking Russian.
“What the fuck,” I muttered when I looked around to see the three men who were with Catalina lay dead on the floor.
The men who entered the room, their weapons pointed, were the same men who had been with us in Italy.
These were Yelena Petrov's men, Ivan’s wife.
How in the hell did they know to come here?
Catalina and Enzo’s hands were lifted in the air.
A slow smile spread across Catalina’s lips just as a very familiar pair of legs came to stand next to me. I looked up at my brother’s face; his cold expression let me know that he was cursing me out in his head. He held his hand out to me to help me up from the floor.
“You don’t ever fucking listen.” He said, pulling me to my feet.
