Were Zoo Book Twenty-Four
Reagan stepped inside the shed and the door shut behind her.
“Hello?” she called out, her voice a little shaky. She was nervous but excited at the same time.
A man stood in the middle of the shed that was about half-full.
He turned slowly and faced her, and holy crap.
The moment she locked eyes with him, she knew he was the one who smelled like sandalwood and sunshine. He was the reason her stomach was filled with butterflies and her knees were weak.
“Hello, yourself,” he said, his voice a deep rumble that made warmth shoot down her spine and pool in her belly. “I’m Indio. Are you lost?”
“I…” was following something that smelled good and I found you.
No. That was insane.
But…it’s what happened.
He moved closer and the scent of him, like the best cologne she’d ever smelled in her life, wrapped around her.
“I’m Reagan,” she said, finding her voice. She stared up at him, lost in the depths of his eyes that were light brown, ringed with gray, an enchanting color she’d never seen before.
He was definitely the sexiest guy ever.
He had broad shoulders and was tall enough she had to tilt her chin up to look at him. The shirt he wore—a black collared shirt with the park’s logo on the pocket—hugged his muscles and made her want to reach out and give his biceps a squeeze. Or two.
“I’m not lost,” she said.
He chuckled. “Good. You’re really beautiful.”
She was so shocked at his blunt words, because she honestly couldn’t remember the last time someone besides her besties had told her she was beautiful, that she just stared at him.
“You’re beautiful too. I mean handsome. Sexy. Shit.”
She pressed her hands to her face as her cheeks heated. She was sure they were bright red. A flush crept up her neck and she wanted to run away, but she was rooted to the spot. Because Indio was there and he was sexy as hell and smelled like sandalwood and sunshine.
Her new favorite scents.
He gently pulled her hands free and tipped her chin up. “Why are you here, Reagan?” His gray-brown eyes searched hers, like he knew exactly what was going on in her head, but he couldn’t, right?
“You’ll think I’m crazy.”
He was still holding her wrists, and she liked it.
“I promise I won’t. Maybe I have a good idea of what brought you in here.”
She pursed her lips, her gaze dropping down to his mouth and the perfect curve of his lips. Her stomach tightened.
Holy crap, she’d never been so turned on in her life. What the hell?
“I’m friends with Rhomi and was at the baby shower, but I felt like I needed to leave. And then I smelled sandalwood and sunshine and I followed it here, to you.”
He pulled her closer, their bodies bumping. He slipped his hands around her back and drew her more firmly against him. Her curves fit against the hard planes of his muscles like they’d been made for each other, but that was nuts, right?
Hadn’t she just been thinking about soulmates and questioning whether that was in her future? She’d been feeling a little desperate to know whether she’d get a forever-guy. Especially if her forever-guy might be Indio.
The scent of him deepened and she panted for breath, feeling totally out of her depths. What was she even doing?
