63. Chapter 63
Fiancée.
The dirty, disgusting word flew out of her mouth like a third smack to Graham’s cheek.
“You’re marrying her?” she screamed, pushing him into the table behind him.
He put up the hand not nursing his jaw to protect himself.
“A whole year together, Graham, and after one night, you’re engaged?”
She flung a chair into his shins and nearly took him down.
“Hold it!” he shouted. “Just wait. Wait! Will you listen?”
“Where was she when I was planning your dad’s funeral? Huh? Where was she when he died? Better yet, where were you?”
Remembering how she’d crumpled on the bathroom floor after the last breath left Jason’s lungs, and neither of his boys had been there to say goodbye, she sent another chair.
Dodging the projectile, he reached out to Billy. “Will you stop this? She’s breaking your place.”
Billy crossed her arms and shrugged. “I’m going to let this play out.”
“Will she let you rail her in an alley, too?” A bottle from a nearby table made another missile that shattered at Graham’s feet. “Or get on her knees for you in the bathroom at a wake?”
“Take it easy,” Graham begged. “Lindsey, Linds! Slow down. I’m sorry.”
“Does she know we had sex the same day you left me for her?” She tipped the table he’d been using for cover. “You asshole.”
Out of objects in grabbing distance, Nino appeared at her side with a broken bottle, which she gladly took. As she reared back to throw, a hand clasped her wrist.
“Stop!” Jase commanded, looking to Billy, who shrugged. He pried the bottle from Lindsey’s fingers with his other hand. “You don’t want to do this.”
“He’s engaged, Jase. Engaged.”
“I know,” Jase said. “I know. He’s not worth it, Lindsey.”
“I don’t care. He deserves to get his ass kicked.”
“He does. But not here.” He stroked her wrist with his thumb and moved in closer. “Not here.”
Lindsey glanced around the room at the fallen angels ready to swoop in. They’d tear Graham apart if she wanted.
Jase tipped his head and lowered his voice. “Okay?”
Billy led Graham around them to the door. “I think you’d better sort your shit out,” she told him.
“Tell your girlfriend’s boyfriend I say hi,” Jase called over his shoulder. He loosened his hold on Lindsey once Graham was outside. “You good?”
“Whatever.”
She snapped her wrist from his hand. In a booth across the room, Lindsey collapsed on her back in dramatic defeat. She didn’t bother to check her phone for a ride. No one in their right mind would come to Not Your Oasis to save her tonight.
