When Seb and E join us, I wish E a good night, as he has a society function.
E looks sad, but resigned as he says goodbye and walks away from us.
I notice Seb didn’t speak to him. We walk out, and I hop in the Jeep with Seb to follow Alex home.
Steven is just leaving when we arrive to attend the same function as E. “Hello all,” he smiles.
“Thank you again for all your help with moving, Jake.”
“As I’ve said. No thanks needed, Summer. How did the procedure go?”
“It failed today, but the doctor remains optimistic about the next round.”
“Excellent news. Please let me know if it’s successful. I must be going. Have a good night, all,” he waves.
We say goodbye and head upstairs. I drop my bag onto the bed as Seb heads straight for the shower. Going into the kitchen, I look around to see what I can make for dinner, but there’s hardly anything. “Alex, where’s all your food?”
“I have been eating downstairs most evenings with my father, so I am afraid I have not kept my fridge well-stocked.”
“Okay, so what do we want to do for dinner?”
“I vote pizza,” Bay says.
“Fine by me,” I reply.
Alex gets his phone out to order as I grab water from the fridge.
We have an hour's wait for delivery, so Bay pulls out the game console and hands me a controller. He brings up a driving game, which I haven’t played before.
Alex shows me how to drive, and I actually get the hang of it.
Seb soon joins us and picks me up from the corner, putting me between his legs, and we take turns playing until the pizza arrives.
After I shower and get ready for bed, I join Seb on his side. “Hi Hurry.”
Seb pulls me into his arms and tangles our legs. “Sunshine. How are you really doing after this morning?”
“I’m actually good. I was sad, but I’m hopeful for the next round, and my gut tells me this is going to work. The waiting is hard, but it’ll be worth it in the end.”
“What will happen to us when Jake wakes up? Will you break up with me? Are we just friends after that? What about Nick? Are you going to tell Jake?”
I pull back to look at his face, noticing his brows furrowed and his lips down-turned.
Leaning up, I give him a quick kiss and pull back.
“Don’t know. No. No. Don’t know. Yes. Hurry, you should’ve talked to me before now if you were worried about this.
We're not breaking up. You're my best friend. Nothing is gonna change with us unless you want it to. Nick is still mine, assuming he wants that. As far as Jake goes, I haven’t stopped to think about our situation. It’s all happening so fast. The doctor said low stress is very important initially, but I don’t know for how long, and he needs to be kept calm.

“Are you sure I won’t lose you?” He asks, nibbling his lower lip.
My Hurry has lost a lot recently too, and I need to remember that.
With Nick gone and his relationship with E severely strained, he’s feeling vulnerable.
“Positive. You’re mine. I’m like a barnacle.
You’ll have to scrape me off to get rid of me,” I smile.
“It’s going to be a weird situation with Jake, though.
The doctor said that for him it will be a day or two after the accident, so he has a lot to catch up on.
Can you give me time to tell him? Not forever, just until he’s processed everything and isn’t in any medical danger. Although I can’t give you a timeframe.”
“So he’s gonna think you’re his girlfriend still?”
“Yeah. What do you think of that?”
“You know I can share Sunshine. If you want to add him to our group, I’m good with it.”
“Really?”
“Yup. I know you love him. As long as there’s room for me, too.”
I lean up to kiss him again, but this time Seb doesn’t let it end at a quick kiss. “Sunshine. I need you. Are you ready? You had sex with Nick, right?”
What? I wasn’t expecting that. “How did you know that?” I enquire. It’s not something I mentioned to anyone, and I doubt Nick said anything, considering how little he talks.
“The room smelled like sex, and there was a condom wrapper in the garbage the night of the party,” he winks.
I should feel embarrassed about that, but I don’t. “Huh,” I say, shrugging. It’s not like I was trying to hide it. We just never talked about it. “I’m ready. I love you.”
Seb freezes above me, and I realize I never told him that before.
He breaks into the biggest smile, stretching his cheeks, eyes crinkling.
“Love you too, Sunshine. So much.” He kisses my nose, then leans over to the nightstand drawer and grabs a condom.
He quickly pulls his shirt over his head with that one-hand grab guys do, then shucks his shorts and underwear.
Tearing the wrapper open with his teeth, he rolls the condom on and sits back.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
“Nothing. Just trying to decide how I want you. I’ve been dreaming of this since the day I met you. So many possibilities,” he mumbles. “Stand and strip for me, Sunshine.”

I pee and wash my hands before crawling back under the covers, facing him. “How are you doing with E?”
“Not good. We’re not talking at all. It’s like we’re not even friends anymore. Alex and Bay talk to him, but it’s stilted. His whole life is society now. When Nick left, I never thought we’d lose E too. Have you talked to him?”
“Not really. I always include him in my text updates, but he hasn’t reached out, and I’m so busy I haven’t either. Did Alex invite him to spend the night?”
“Yeah, but he said no. I doubt we’ll see him tomorrow either.”
“I’m sorry. That must really hurt.”
“It does, Sunshine, so much. I’m glad I have you.” He pulls me against him as we tangle up together.
“You always will, Hurry. You know you can call anytime and talk to me when I’m in Charlotte. Vent as much as you want. We’re all busy, but don’t keep it bottled up.”
“I will. Thanks Sunshine.” We talk for a while longer about life before I fall asleep in Seb’s arms.
