His family listened to his father’s lies, so they all thought that something was wrong with him.

Trent got back into his car and sped away. He had to return the rental car but, thankfully, they would drop him off to his destination. He barely had any money and he didn’t want to waste any on an Uber.

Once he returned the car, one of the reps dropped him off at home.

He was both happy and disappointed when he didn’t see his father’s car.

He was done backing down and he was ready to square up with him like the grown man he was.

He and his father had it out more times than he could count but Melvin was taller and stronger.

But, this time, Trenton wasn’t gonna fight fair. He flipped open the knife that he had found in the bathroom drawer at the hotel and smiled. He couldn’t wait for his father to come at him again. He was gonna make his mother a widow and that was a promise.

Trent put the knife back in his front pocket and headed to his apartment in the rear of the house.

He frowned when he turned the knob and saw that the door was locked.

He didn’t have any keys so he had to go into the main house to be let it.

He wasn’t about to ask for permission; he was gonna find his keys and take them.

“Who is it?” Trudy asked when he knocked on the kitchen door.

“It’s me, Trent,” he replied in an annoyed tone.

When the door was opened, he expected his mother to open the door with a smile, excited to see him. Instead, she seemed to be just as annoyed as he was. She scowled and stood there like she didn’t want to let him in.

“Where have you been, Trenton? No, the better question is what do you want?” Trudy had her hand on her hip as she looked at him and awaited an answer.

Since her husband left, she had time to think.

Aside from berating herself for never getting her son the help he needed, she realized that just about every bad thing that happened in their family was because of him.

Trenton was spoiled being that he was the youngest and only boy, but that wasn’t his only issue.

Granted, he did have mental issues that she was finally ready to accept, but he was also selfish.

Even when he did take his meds and was in his right mind, he made everything about him.

He never wanted to compromise and it had been that way since he was a kid.

If she were being honest, she was upset that he even came back home. Maybe her life would have been much better without him in it. Now that Melvin was gone, she didn’t even feel comfortable having him so close without backup.

“I want my car keys.” Trent barged into the house and moved her out of his way.

“I don’t have your keys,” Trudy lied. His keys were hidden in a shoe box at the back of her closet so he wouldn’t even know where to start looking for them.

“That’s bullshit, I’ll find them myself.” Trent started opening the drawers in the kitchen, yanking some of them so hard, they crashed to the floor.

“What the hell are you doing? Stop that! Your keys are not here!”

Trudy grabbed his arm to stop him, but he pulled away and kept yanking the drawers out.

When he didn’t find his keys, he rushed upstairs towards his parents’ bedroom, hoping to have some luck.

Trudy was yelling to the top of her lungs as she watched him destroy her perfectly clean bedroom.

She had a small stash of money in her nightstand drawer that he found and stuffed in his pocket.

Trudy got into her bed and jumped on his back to stop him from destroying her home.

“Get the fuck up off of me!” Trent flung her across the room like she weighed nothing. Her back hit the wall and she groaned in pain as she slowly got up.

“I’m calling the police!” Trudy was in pain but she ran as fast as she could down the stairs with Trent hot on her trail.

She regretted saying anything and she wished she would have just called without alerting him of her plans.

Trent got to her phone before she did and slammed it to the floor, making pieces fly all over the kitchen.

“You’re just like every other woman in my life. First, you drugged me and took my car; now, you wanna see me in jail or the crazy house. Yeah, I heard you and your husband talking about locking me away like I’m some kind of maniac.”

“Trenton, no baby, I’m on your side. I only want you to be okay.”

“I am okay! You want me dead just like Clover and the rest of these hoes.” Trent pulled out his knife and flipped it open, making Trudy’s heart rate speed up to a dangerous pace.

“Trent, please, put that away. We can talk about whatever is bothering you.”

Just then, her husband’s words replayed in her head like a song on repeat. She was deathly afraid of being alone with their son, and he was showing her exactly why. Trent was way taller than she was and much stronger too. She was no match for him and she didn’t have anything to defend herself.

Trudy tried to make a run for the door, but a sharp pain to her shoulder halted her movements.

She yelled out in pain while grabbing the part of her arm that the knife had just been pulled from.

She fell to the floor howling in pain, as he stood over her with a knife like a villain from a scary movie.

“I know, she’s gonna die just like everybody else who tried to kill me,” Trent said, speaking as if someone else was in the room with them.

Trudy looked up at him, but that was no longer her son staring back at her. Trent actually looked like a demon. His eyes were wide and deranged. She was on her back scooting as far away from him as she could.

“Trenton, baby, nobody is trying to kill you. We love you and only want what’s best for you.” Trudy knew that her attempts were in vain.

The voices in his head won. He was talking back to them like they were real. Now, she knew exactly how her husband felt when he had to go through it with his brother. She felt helpless and regretted not getting him some help sooner.

“Lying ass bitch don’t love nobody but herself,” Trent raged as he raised the knife again.

Trudy used her arm to block him from cutting her face.

She yelled, as he slashed her arm like a piece of meat.

She was in fight mode so she started kicking her legs wildly.

Luckily, one of her kicks landed and the knife fell from his hand and slid under the stove.

She jumped up and grabbed one of the knives from the wood block on the counter.

She swung it at him swiftly and managed to scratch his arm, angering him more.

He grabbed the knife out of her hand and plunged it into her side.

He pulled it out and stuck in right back in, making her tumble to the floor.

Trudy closed her eyes and made peace with God.

She expected Trent to climb on top of her and finish the job.

Instead, he kneeled down beside her and wrapped his hands around her neck.

“Trent, no, please.” Trudy’s words were barely audible as she tried to beg for her life. The last thing she remembered was a satisfied smile on his face before everything faded to black.

Satisfied that his mission was accomplished, Trent looked around the kitchen and spotted his mother’s purse on the counter. He rummaged through it and took her debit card and car keys before leaving her lifeless body sprawled out on the kitchen floor.
