Chapter Seven

Dela

By the time I hit the supermarket closest to my place, my stomach was practically growling, and I had to work to hold back the drool. Oh, I was excited, yes, I was very excited.

My legs carried me with increasing speed across the store. Why were the freezer sections always at the far end? That drove me nuts. I just wanted my ice cream! The tub needed to be held by me while I spooned mouthfuls straight from it. Tonight was absolutely not going to be a night for a bowl.

Some days, I was classy and spooned out a good portion and then put it away. Tonight was not going to be one of those days. It would be “eat until I cry and then have a bit more before realizing I’ve had too much, then have one last spoonful before putting it away.”

And I would probably go back for more later.

I passed many inferior brands. They all looked delicious, but I could practically hear the green-colored tub calling out my name.

I ducked around another shopper like I was a receiver heading for the endzone, trying not to get caught.

My tastebuds were the crowd. They cheered my every move, not wanting to waste a single second more. We were almost there!

Someone was standing in front of the door. I skidded to a halt, wishing I could shoot laser beams from my eyes. How dare someone get between me and my mint chocolate chip goodness! Did they not understand how serious it was?

Finally, the devil herself moved away, heading farther up the aisle, the door closing in her wake. It frosted up, obscuring my vision of the trophy. But I knew it was still there.

In I went, my hand reaching out to grab the door and pull it open. I would emerge victorious. The end was nigh.

The door shimmered, and my hand plunged through the plastic handle.

“What the fuck?” It was all I had time to yelp before I was yanked through the door.

I lost my balance and fell. I tucked a shoulder, old gymnastics experience guiding me through the motion.

Though nowhere near as graceful as it would have been in my younger years, I managed to avoid scraping my hands and arms on the cold stone floor.

“Not possible,” Power-Man whispered, staring at me with shocked bright blue eyes.

“What the fuck did you do to me?” I snarled, looking around wildly. “And where is my ice cream?”

I had no idea where I was or what had just happened, but at least I still had my priorities in order.
