Chapter Forty-Eight
Dela
“I still can’t believe he just magicked up a dress for me,” I said, staring at my reflection in the mirror, turning from side to side to admire the outfit.
The “princess dress,” as Ember had come to call it, fit like a glove, falling loosely from the waist to hover an inch or two above the floor. I scratched at my throat, tugging on the choker that was attached up from the bust, still unused to the feeling of such thick fabric around my neck.
“He transports us in an instant from Mount Drakonus to the throne room,” Ember says dryly, “and she’s surprised about a dress.”
“Yes. Because it’s a he as you said. And somehow, he got the fit, style, and coloring all so perfect. That’s impressive and much more surprising than a simple transportation spell. After all, we’re pretty sure he yanked me here from Earth. That’s much more impressive in my mind.”
Ember chuckled. “Are you ready then, my princess?”
I shivered when he said that. I shivered every time he said that.
I wasn’t sure I would ever get used to being a princess, let alone his.
I liked that part the best. It wouldn’t be the same without Ember.
Nothing would. The fingers of my left hand idly curled inward to play with the ring that sat heavily on my finger.
His ring.
“I’m ready,” I said, ensuring I was one last time. My hair was done up in a simple but perfectly executed bun. There were no personal stylists in the Fire Castle, leaving me to do it alone. I’d spent ages making it look clean and elegant, and I hoped I succeeded.
“Good. Though, there’s one thing I will require first,” he rumbled, his lips crooking upward in a wicked smile.
“What’s that?” I asked with a sudden flutter of my heart.
“Your underwear.”
My mouth dropped open. “What?”
“You heard me,” he growled, moving close, his teeth grazing my neck. “I want to know that the entire time we’re dealing with them, you’re ready for me. Nothing but that dress in the way. Because the second they’re gone, I’m going to …”
He whispered a few things into my ear, and my face burned brightly red. “Oh, you are, are you?”
“Yes,” he said. “Then you’re going to walk around, feeling me inside you for the rest of the day. You’re mine, darling, and I intend to remind you of it every day.”
“That’s a good way to end up pregnant, then,” I said, even though I was taking birth control.
“I don’t see a problem,” he said. “Heirs must be produced at some point. No need to wait.”
He wanted kids? God-King, I loved this man so much.
“Now, hurry,” he said, gesturing. “We can’t be late.”
Biting my lip, my pussy already tingling with desire to be filled by his cock, I awkwardly reached under the dress and pulled my thong off, placing it in his hand. He pocketed it with a grin, then gestured toward the exit.
“Now that you’re properly ready, let us go. Our first guest will be here shortly.”
He walked to the door and extended an arm.
I took it, and we took the stairs up from our new quarters.
They were the royal chambers, as Ember told me.
He hadn’t touched them since his parents were called before the God-King, but upon our return from Mount Drakonus, he’d ordered them cleaned out so we could move in. Together.
Now we took the stairs to the throne room, entering from the rear, off to one side of the raised stone chairs.
“Do you remember everyone?” he asked, escorting me up the three steps and holding my arm as I sat on the princess’ throne.
“I think so,” I said, going over the parties' information.
“Let’s hear it,” he said, sitting down with regal elegance next to me.
I still felt clumsy next to him, especially in the dress, but I’d worn it enough that I was getting better. I was determined to be a good princess, though, and I wouldn’t stop until I fit in seamlessly. I wasn’t sure how long that would take, but I had a hundred years to perfect it.
That had also taken some getting used to, the knowledge that I would age much slower than humans. Apparently, while I was the first human to sit on a throne, I was not the first to spend time among the dragons. So that much at least was known.
“Well, we have Rip from the Tidal Princedom,” I said, drawing on my memory. “Long blond hair, bright green eyes, real go-with-the-flow type attitude, right?”
Ember inclined his head a fraction of an inch.
“Then you have Tor. Heir of the Storm Clan. White hair, gray eyes. Quick thinker, just the opposite of the last member, Vil. He’s from the Iron Clan.”
“Frustrating ones, them,” Ember muttered.
I glanced at him. “Why?”
“They’re all about taking their time to think. Then, whatever they decide, you can never dissuade them. They will forge ahead until they get to whatever it is they want.”
“So, they’re determined.”
“Something like that,” he said as the doors opened and a man who could only be Tor entered.
I watched him come in, acutely aware of the fact that I wasn’t wearing any underwear.
My clit was throbbing already, and Ember wasn’t even touching me.
I knew Tor couldn’t see up my dress. It was much too long for that, but the knowledge that nothing was blocking his view if he could was enough to make my body burn with arousal.
“Ember!” he called, striding forward. “Look at you, all grown up and sitting on the throne.”
I smiled at the friendly tone. Although Tor hadn’t addressed me, it seemed to bode well that he was approaching the meeting in good manner instead of suspicious or outright hostile.
“Torrent, it is good to see you,” Ember said formally. “Thank you for coming.”
“Absolutely,” Tor replied, pausing to sweep a bow before the throne. “And this must be your lovely mate.”
“Pleased to meet you,” I said, nodding my head toward him with what I hoped was slow grace.
“A human,” Tor said thoughtfully. “I honestly wasn’t sure if you were joking or not. But now I see the truth of it.”
“She is strong and wise,” Ember said. “And compassionate. All excellent qualities that I’m lucky to have in my life.”
Tor held up his hands. “I meant no offense. However, you must admit that it’s beyond unusual. For a human to sit on the throne, I mean.”
“Trust me,” I said dryly, speaking up. “None is more aware of that than I. But the God-King has judged us to be Eternal Mates.”
“Fascinating,” Tor said. “It truly is.”
“How goes your search?” Ember asked.
Tor grimaced. “There have been a few hiccups along the way. My twin sister is … Well, you’ve met Rica before.”
“I understand,” Ember said, sounding like he knew all too well. “Is there anything I can do to help?”
Tor thought about it, then looked at me. “Do you have a sister?”
I laughed. “No, I’m sorry.”
The dragon shifter shrugged. “Worth a try, I guess.”
The doors opened again, admitting a clean-shaven male with hair buzzed down, giving him a very serious, stern look.
I pegged him immediately as Vil from the Iron Princedom.
Behind him came Rip, whose stately grace was the complete opposite of Vil’s clomping march.
The politician and the soldier, if I had to give them identities.
“Good, good, everyone is here,” Ember said after introductions were made.
He stood, and I followed. We descended into the middle of the trio of shifters.
Ember held my arm, guiding me while I did my best not to drip all over the floor as my anticipation built.
How was I supposed to keep myself composed while feeling so vulnerable?
Ember made his speech, empowering the others to use their own scrying mirrors to try to find a mate, even if she was human.
“Unlikely,” Vil said. “I will consider it. But why would the God-King not put our mates into the body of dragons? What is the purpose?”
“I don’t know,” Ember admitted, looking at me. “Just because she can’t shift doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a dragon’s heart. Dela is the strongest, most intelligent woman I know. She doesn’t back down when she’s right and is willing to admit when she’s wrong. She is perfect.”
The others considered the words.
“I know none of you are facing open civil war like I was,” Ember said, “but the longer you wait, the more inevitable it becomes.”
“It’s already begun,” Tor said. “Things are fracturing. Maybe Ember is right. Maybe we should try looking elsewhere.”
Vil grunted and did not say anything one way or another.
“Your story is interesting,” Rip said cautiously. “But I am not yet convinced. I will continue to try to find my mate among dragons. I am sure she is out there.”
“Just don’t be so stubborn that your realm goes to shit because of it,” Ember said, glancing at both Rip and Vil. “The God-King brought her here for a reason. He will help you do the same, I am sure.”
“Perhaps,” Vil said. “Thank you for your invitation to visit. I wish you the best as Prince of Fire.”
Then he turned and clomped out of the room, moving with purpose.
He left, and Tor sighed. “Ironies. So oppressive.”
Ember chuckled while Rip gave Tor a glance that might have contained a hint of disdain for the storm dragon’s flippant ways.
“Anyone hungry?” I asked, gesturing to a side room where food had been set out for us to eat. I was starving and hoped the others would agree to retire for some food.
“Yes, please,” Tor said immediately, making a beeline for the door. “I’m famished.”
“I, too, will partake,” Rip replied, following along as we went for food and to mingle.
At one point, Ember leaned over and whispered into my ear. “I can smell you, my love. I hunger for you, and soon, you will get what you want.”
I grimaced, even as my pussy twinged in eager anticipation. It wasn’t fair how he could make me burn for him with a word or a look while his pants didn’t bulge out wildly.
Angling my head to speak into his ear, I whispered back, “I’m going to ride you until you fill me with your come, then I’m going to keep going until you do it again.”
The temperature around Ember ratcheted up a notch while his nose flared as he inhaled sharply.
“Two can play this game,” I said, turning my back to the other two dragons and licking my lips seductively while batting my eyes and pushing out my chest.
Ember growled.
I smiled, then turned to chat with the others some more. Ember had asked me to do my best to show them that humans could survive in the dragon realm, and I intended to do just that and more.
I didn’t intend just to survive there.
I was going to thrive.

“Finally,” I sighed as the doors closed behind Tor, who was the last to leave.
“Been waiting for something?” Ember teased, coming up behind me and massaging my shoulders.
“Two somethings, actually,” I said, letting his fingers work magic. “But first, I wanted to say thank you.”
“To me?”
“Yes. For how you spoke of me and treated me with them. The kind things you said, the way you didn’t try to coddle me or protect me. I appreciate that. A lot. And I wanted you to know that.”
“I only spoke the truth.”
“But you spoke it without hesitation and without any clever wording. You left it up to me to show them I was worthy instead of simply insisting I was. That means a lot.”
“You are worthy,” he repeated.
“And thanks to times like that, I’m starting to feel it,” I said.
“Good.” He paused to undo the clasp of the choker. “Now, what are the two things you were waiting for?”
“The first is for you to finally give me that cock I’ve been waiting for all afternoon,” I half moaned, as he pressed up against me from behind, his bulge evident as he unzipped the rest of the dress, letting it fall to my waist and exposing my breasts to his hands.
“And the second?” he growled into my neck, my nipples hardening under his fingers while my pussy became enflamed with heat. “What is the second thing you want?”
“The second is some of that mint chocolate chip ice cream that I was going to buy the day you kidnapped me.”
Ember froze for a moment, then threw back his head and laughed uproariously.
“That,” he said through the laughter, “can be arranged.”
“Good. But first, take your pants off, my love, and fuck me hard.”
“Yes, darling,” he said, his formal uniform swiftly being discarded, revealing his cock already hard and straining for me.
I smiled as he lifted a finger and crooked it to me.
“Come here, my love, my everything. My soon-to-be wife. My princess.”
I went to him.
