Chapter Thirty-Eight

“It is a beautiful day,” said Darcy to his sister and James. “Shall we walk to Longbourn?”

Georgiana screwed up her nose, and James said, “It is rather warm. Are you sure you are not stalling so as to avoid a certain someone?”

“Avoid? Dear cousin, I was just with her, and all was well.”

James, to Darcy’s irritation, tucked his lips between his teeth and winked at Georgiana, who giggled.

“She has no interest in me, and I must accept this.”

“And you have no interest in her?” asked James.

Darcy shook his head. “It is not prudent.”

“That was not my question.”

“Our carriage awaits,” said Darcy grimly.
