Chapter 54

KADENCE

After our one night together, I didn’t expect Blaize to completely ignore me like I was the worst person on the planet. She wouldn’t make eye contact or speak to me during her rounds—it was like I didn’t exist to her. Almost two weeks passed, and she wanted to act like it never happened.

I spun the crystal glass with pretty liquid dancing inside it, bringing it to my lips.

Tequila invaded my senses, and I cringed.

It was my least favorite liquor, so I didn’t understand why I opted for a tequila sunrise.

Maybe I’d get drunk enough to hook up with someone and drown out her memory.

Offer my body to someone else like I did with her.

She said she didn’t love. She obviously showed emotions, at least ones where she hated me, but I couldn’t help this stupid thing beating under my rib cage.

I always choose the wrong people to fall in love with.

I shouldn’t want her. I shouldn't crave her lips on my pussy or question how she tastes.

I was only setting myself up for even more heartache.

This club belonged to Blaize. She had rules, and here I was, about to break all of those rules tonight.

I needed to focus on working, but I couldn’t focus on work when I was dedicated to making Blaize wither and regret her choices.

Was I bitter? Maybe. Did I care? Not one bit.

Blaize said she didn’t want me, but I knew that was a lie.

If she didn’t want me, she wouldn’t have fucked me like that.

Sex was one thing. Sex didn’t need to have a meaning or feelings involved, but Blaize focused on my pleasure, on my body, and made me do things I never did before. Someone who wanted a quick fuck wouldn’t have cherished my body like I was holy.

I scanned the area. It wasn’t busy, and I had plans.

My eyes found Hunter as she walked toward the bar.

She was a curiosity, and I wanted to unwrap all her secrets.

I saw why she and Blaize were friends. They both wore masks to conceal their pain, but Hunter was better at not letting hers slip. Blaize should take some pointers.

Blaize would be lingering in the shadows.

She was always watching me, but she never wanted to do anything.

If she didn’t care, then why was she watching me like a creeper in the shadows?

I wanted to make her jealous, and then we would truly see how much she didn’t care.

I already knew the answer, but now it was time to get a reaction.

Even if I was setting myself up for failure.

I walked towards Hunter, and she eyed me with curiosity. “Soooo.”

“You’re planning something, huh?”

I smirked. “Maybe I am. So like, would you say no if I offered you a lap dance and we talked?”

“A lap dance, huh? And why would you want to do that?”

I leaned in closer to her, touching her wrist. “Maybe I want a little more adventure in my life.”

“Adventure. Or are you trying to make a certain brooding boss jealous?” Shit.

“Keep going, I think it’s cute. You won’t be giving me a lap dance, though.

” She leaned down, her lips brushing against my ear.

“When you’re on my lap, you’ll be riding my strap.

But I feel like I’ll need someone’s permission before that happens. ”

Holy good goddamn.

“Oh really now? And whose permission do you need to fuck me?” I touched her arm, taking a dangerous leap. Hunter wouldn’t fuck me, but maybe she would play along. “You know, it’s funny. I keep waiting, but maybe I’m chasing the wrong woman.”

“You’re playing a risky game, Kadence.”

I shrugged, glancing behind me and seeing the woman of the hour. “Maybe I like taking risks, and besides, the company is better.”

She smirked, taking her beer bottle and bringing it to her lips. “You got her attention. Now what are you going to do about it?”

I leaned in closer to Hunter, my lips close to her shoulder. “What do you think she’ll do if you touch me right now?”

Hunter glanced in the corner where Blaize was seething.

Blaize was ready to kill with the way her glare was directed towards us.

Hunter laughed, shaking her head as she turned into me, slightly giving me a better view of her cleavage.

If I was willing to take a chance, I would let Hunter fuck me right now, but I didn’t think she would do that.

Being friends with Blaize meant there had to be a boundary or something between them, but I also wasn’t Blaize’s, so technically there wouldn’t be any harm.

Hunter shook her head. “Careful what you ask for.”

“I’m tired of asking,” I whispered.

“She is two seconds away from ripping my head off and claiming what’s hers.”

I rolled my eyes, brushing a strand of Hunter’s blonde hair away from her face. It was a move I didn’t need to do, but I knew it would be enough to push Blaize over the edge. “If I was truly hers, she would act like it. What is she waiting for?”

And just like that, Blaize stormed across the bar, wrapping her hand around my wrist. My breath caught in my throat momentarily as she pulled me from the bar and upstairs. I was too focused on not falling to argue, but this was what I wanted.
