Chapter 57

BLAIZE

Kadence got the message, and with it, gave me the cold shoulder.

She would dance, give one of the best shows, and leave the stage.

When she would bartend, Jax would take care of me, even if I was in her area.

I never should sit in her area, but I was a glutton for punishment.

She listened to what I said, but why couldn’t I?

Everything this woman did intrigued me, and I still couldn’t forget her taste or moans.

I knew I never should have touched her, but I was weak, and now I was paying for the consequences of my actions.

Kadence was a tease—a brat. I hated how she was under my skin without trying.

She teased, pushed, and smiled like she knew exactly what she was doing.

I walked to my office, needing to get away.

There was too much going on, and I didn’t want to deal with Kadence or her attitude.

Fucking her was a mistake, even if it was one of the best nights of my life.

Tasting her ruined everything, and I was addicted.

Addiction was dangerous in this life, especially when it was a green-eyed woman with fuck me thighs and an attitude to match.

This wasn’t me. I didn’t get distracted by a pretty face or pussy.

And I didn’t let a sassy brat walk in and shift my entire focus.

There was a need, a constant pull, and so much goddamn tension.

I needed to keep my distance, but I wanted her.

Fuck. I needed to get her out of my head and focus on my town and club.

She still had a secret, and I wanted to know everything about her.

It was more than just a need; her life intrigued me more than it should.

I wanted to know who put the shadows in her eyes and made her scared, but I had no right.

I needed her to get out of my head, because she wasn’t what I needed right now.

My control was spiraling, and I was sick of this. I needed to get back on the saddle and get my shit together.

CINDER

Are we good for a meeting in a month? I have guns and MJ.

ME

Yes. Just text me and remind me. There’s a lot of shit going on.

CINDER

Do you need help?

ME

Unless you can find out who is trying to destroy all my hard work.

CINDER

I know a good detective ;)

ME

I’ll be okay for now. I’ll keep you updated and let you know what happens. When you head this way in a month, let me know so I can make sure I have some stability.

CINDER

Who needs stability?

Let me know if you need anything.

ME

I will, thank you.

Before I had the chance to put my phone down, my phone rang with Hawke’s contact displaying on the screen. “Ranger and Sin got hurt,” Hawke said as I picked up my phone.

Fuck. “What happened?”

“They were patrolling, and there was a bomb. Ranger has second degree burns and Sin has a gash on his head—Ranger pushed him out of the way and covered his body.”

“I’m on my way.”

When I arrived at the clubhouse, Sin and Ranger were in the infirmary with Layla holding Sin’s hand. Doc was tending to Ranger’s burns while Sin comforted their girl. “What happened?” I asked.

“Tripwire,” Sin said. “Ranger already knew something was off, but I didn’t listen.”

“Fuckin’ stubborn asshole,” Ranger growled as Doc added bandages to his back.

“You’re lucky you didn’t die, damnit,” Layla cried. “Don’t ever do that to me again!”

I looked at Doc. “Are they both going to be okay?”

“Yes. Burns will scar, but he won’t need skin grafts or anything. Sin has a hard head so he’ll be fine.” Sin flipped Doc off and Layla hit him. “Layla likes me more, remember that.”

“Sin, shut up before Doc steals our girl.”
