Chapter Fifty-One
Fallon
“Today has been magical,” I say, staring out of the window as we drive away from the wedding. “I want to do it all over again.”
I couldn’t have wished for a better day for my best friend and oldest brother.
The way they look at each other is what a fairy tale ending really looks like.
Just before we left, Tommy told her he had a private jet waiting to jet them away to Menorca.
Luckily for Maya, he gave me enough notice to pack her bags.
Secrets are very hard for me to keep, especially fun ones like that.
How I managed to keep it in, I’ll never know.
“It was a beautiful wedding,” Luke admits. But his tone sounds off, distant.
“Is everything okay?” I frown, looking over at him.
He shakes himself before looking back at me. “Yeah, everything's fine. It’s just… I have something I want to show you.”
“Is it a good thing? Or a bad thing?” I ask because from the way he's acting, you would think he was driving me to my death.
“Good. Very good. Or at least, I hope you think so.”
We’re only driving for a few more minutes before he turns down a very familiar dirt road.
“What's going on? Why are we going to Maya's cabin?”
He must have asked her if we could spend the night here. It makes sense since he knew she was being whisked away tonight, too. But he doesn’t answer me. He is white-knuckling the steering wheel as he pulls to a stop in front of her house.
Taking a deep breath, he gets out of the car and walks around to my side. Opening the door, he holds a hand out to me and gives me a small, nervous smile.
“Remember I said I had a surprise for you?” He asks, pulling a key out of his pocket.
“Yeah?”
“Well…”
He puts the key into the lock, opening the door and guiding me inside.
The moment we step into the living room, I freeze.
The house is nothing at all like how we left it this morning.
Girls getting ready for an event is one of the most destructive things you could ever witness.
But now… now it is pristine. The back doors are open wide, with a fire pit glowing just outside the glass.
On the dining table is a bottle of champagne and the most beautiful bouquet of red roses.
“What’s going on?” I try to ask, but my voice comes out in a broken whisper.
“Well… I know that we still need time, and the last thing I would ever want to do is push you so far that you run from me. Again,” he chuckles. “But, I had a chat with Maya.”
“Go on…”
“She sold the cabin.”
“She did?” I whine, feeling a sense of loss I never thought I'd feel over a home.
“Yes… To me.”
I freeze again. Unable to take in what he has just told me.
“Fallon. I love you. I love you so much that I don’t want to spend another moment without you at my side. I know my shifts are crazy, and I know we’re taking baby steps, but I also know you love it here… and… will you move in with me?”
I stare at him.
He bought the cabin. The one place that has always felt like my safe haven. The place that Maya worked so hard to achieve, and where helped her to grow into who she is today. I couldn’t think of a better place or a better person to spend my life with.
“Do we get to keep the couch?” I ask with as much seriousness as I can muster.
He looks at me incredulously before bending over in fits of laughter.
“We can keep the couch, Fal.”
I run up to him and dive into his arms, wrapping my arms and legs around him. He spins us around, the pair of us laughing and squealing. I can't believe this is happening. The cabin is actually ours.
“When do we move in?” I ask when he finally lowers me back to the ground.
“Whenever you’re ready. With the help of Dom and Will, and a moving company, they transported everything to Tommy's place whilst we were at the wedding.”
“Oh my God. This is really happening?” I gasp.
“Yes, baby. Just me, you and our cabin.”
“I love you, Luke. More than you’d ever know.”
“I love you, too.”
