Chapter 22 - Nick
“There’s no need to jab those numbers so aggressively,” Alex said to Nick as they sat outside by one of the courts, having a quick snack.
Nick ignored him, pissed that he hadn’t heard from Reece all morning. Even his text after landing was short—
Kitten: Made it safe ??
Nick replied with a simple: good, but didn’t hear more. Even after texting a few times, he heard nothing. So now, damn it, he was going to call.
“He’s probably sleeping, you know…”
Even so, Nick didn’t end the call, he just walked away from his friends so they couldn’t pester him.
Reece answered after several rings, with no words, just a quiet, “Hm?”
“Kitten…”
“Nicky?” Reece slurred, but sounded less asleep.
It wasn’t early there but Reece’s sleep schedule was all over the place and Nick had the sudden urge to see him, so he switched the call to video, and snorted when Reece came into view, one eye closed, the other one barely peeping, his hair in complete disarray.
There was drool in the corner of his mouth.
It was dark aside from the light from Reece’s phone, until he finally wiggled around to turn a lamp on, and Nick immediately recognized his bed.
His dark sheets, which Reece slipped right back under and pulled up to his nose.
“The hell’re you doin’, huh?” Nick asked softly, unable to fight his own smile. He didn’t expect Reece to go straight to his place. To his bed. He didn’t understand why it pleased him so much either.
“Sleepin’—whatboutyou?”
“Quick snack break. Got a game soon, but… I was just checking on you.”
“Nicky… hmmmm… Thank you. Just so sleepy.”
“That’s alright. Go back to keeping my bed warm. Sleep good.”
Reece’s eyes were closed, but his smile was wide as he pulled the cover down and hugged the phone to his chest, making it go dark.
“Night, Nicky.”
