Chapter 1675 Knight Tutor
Within the tall, resplendent building, before the Throne, Germain stood with his head lowered.
On the Throne, a beautiful Witch Clan Cultivator gently rotated a mystical blue orb in her hand. Faint scenes gradually appeared on the sphere, shifting from blurred to clear. Finally, the images solidified, showing Gerlane, Sun Hao, and an additional dog.
The Witch said softly, "Is this the Guardian Knight your sister personally chose?"
Germain subtly shifted the blame to his father: "Yes, Mother. Lan'er said that before she went to Barbarian City, Father told her that when choosing a knight, one should look at height first, and kindness second. Lan'er said Jiang Xiaoshan's height surpassed all in the Barbarian Tribe, and he was the first Barbarian Warrior to offer her wine and meat, so she chose him. At the time, I was busy contracting the Behemoth King."
Height first, kindness second?
The Witch pressed a hand to her forehead and said, "That does sound like your damned father’s usual tone, and his usual habit of simplifying complex matters crudely..."
Germain breathed an inward sigh of relief. With Father in seclusion, shifting the responsibility to him provided an easy escape. However, out of a sense of high responsibility towards his sister, Germain still said, "Mother, Sister wasted a Knight Guardian Contract. What should we do? Can the contract be annulled?"
The Witch gently rotated the mystical blue orb in her hand, studying Sun Hao and the Border Collie intently. "Theoretically, it can be voided and reset. However, doing so would significantly degrade the contract's level. It would be far less cost-effective than finding a way to get a new contract..."
Germain frowned deeply: "But Sister has wasted a Guardian Knight like this. The Barbarian Warrior she contracted, aside from his height, showed no remarkable abilities within Barbarian City. I didn't sense even a trace of barbaric strength from him either."
The Witch slowly rotated the mystical blue orb, as if not hearing Germain, and murmured, "Strange, what kind of dog breed is this?"
Germain asked softly, "The Lower Void is vast and boundless, with all sorts of strange breeds. Is there something wrong with this mutt?"
"It speaks. It even leaves me somewhat unable to see through it. A truly odd dog," the Witch said calmly. "However, its strength is weak. It can barely be considered a pet. Keeping Lan'er company and happy isn't bad... Wait, no..."
As she spoke, her eyes narrowed, and she looked intently at Sun Hao.
Germain asked softly, "Mother, is there an issue with the dog... or with this Jiang Xiaoshan?"
The Witch rotated the mystical blue orb close before her eyes and stared unblinkingly for a long while before saying, "Nothing seems particularly wrong with the dog or Jiang Xiaoshan themselves. However, their presence with Lan'er is peculiar. Germain, pay attention: Lan'er comprehends every single sentence Jiang Xiaoshan utters completely. There's never a moment of misunderstanding. This level of comprehension likely exceeds yours, mine, and even Father’s..."
Germain’s eyes snapped open wide. "That's impossible! Father always said Lan'er was cursed by heaven from birth, lacking a thread of Spiritual Consciousness. Even for close relatives like us living with her, Lan'er struggles to fully understand our words. How could she possibly comprehend Jiang Xiaoshan's speech perfectly?"
The Witch nodded slightly. "Hmm. If you observe carefully, you'll see Lan’er constantly finding the dog's words profound, yet she never once asks Jiang Xiaoshan for clarification. It’s as if she naturally comprehends him."
Germain’s eyes lit up with realization. "Mother! Could it be an effect of the Knight Guardian Contract?"
The Witch was mildly taken aback. She pondered for a moment, then slowly shook her head. "A Guardian Knight contract does grant some degree of heart-touching resonance, but it absolutely does not reach the level we're seeing now. This suggests the root of the issue likely lies with this 'Jiang Xiaoshan'. Either he has cultivated some miraculous secret art akin to Mind-Reading Insight... or he possesses a natural ability to communicate with little Lan. That would be truly extraordinary..."
Germain looked at the orb and said, "Mother, do you think a Barbarian Warrior could possibly cultivate Mind-Reading Insight? They're a bunch of warriors known for brawns over brains. They shouldn’t be able to, nor are they equipped to cultivate such a mystical secret art."
The Witch gently raised the orb. "That's what I believe too. This is an extraordinarily rare and unique effect. It seems your father’s methods, while as unreliable as ever, also continue to yield unexpected dividends."
Germain seized the chance to further excuse himself: "Indeed, I recall Father saying that Sister possesses an innate talent for sensing what is incredibly beneficial to her, for seeking advantage and avoiding harm. Perhaps Sister’s selection method truly is the way to find the most suitable Guardian Knight for her."
The Witch nodded in agreement. "Your sister's intuition might genuinely be the best choice. Her innate cultivation talent is outstanding — a once-in-millions-of-years genius among my Witch Clan. Yet, for years, her lack of comprehension held her back; she only ever grasped cultivation methods half-understood. Your father and I exhausted every means we could think of, and she only just managed to reach the Divine Transformation realm. Now, she has actually found a Guardian Knight who can enhance her comprehension abilities. How fascinating."
Germain asked, "Mother, are you saying this Guardian Knight is the most suitable for Sister, then?"
The Witch nodded. "Hmm. As long as this 'Jiang Xiaoshan' fully grasps any cultivation secret art or more advanced cultivation method, then explains it to your sister, she will naturally grasp it thoroughly as well."
Germain frowned slightly again. "That method sounds good, Mother. But wouldn't that also mean Jiang Xiaoshan would learn many of our clan's cultivation secret arts?"
An inscrutable expression appeared on the Witch’s face. "Do you really believe a Barbarian Warrior could possibly cultivate the arts of my Witch Clan — arts that not even your Warlock Clan, among others, can cultivate? The Void Realm hosts tens of thousands of races, yet only the most intellectually capable, like the Human Clan and a scant few others, might learn my Witch Clan’s methods. A mere Barbarian Warrior? What are you afraid he might do?"
Germain nodded: "That makes sense. So, what should we do next?"
The Witch said coolly, "The uncertainty is whether this Barbarian has learned the Void script. If he can't even recognize Void characters, he is truly barbaric in the extreme. We’d likely need to spend considerable time teaching him to read. Once he gains literacy, you should have him read various biographies to Little Lan. This will broaden her knowledge, enhance her comprehension, and simultaneously allow us to observe the Guardian Knight’s character. If he proves trustworthy, then we can gradually introduce him to cultivation secret arts to teach your sister."
Germain nodded. "I understand, Mother. I will see to it immediately." Having said this, he respectfully withdrew.
The Witch rotated the blue orb in her hand a few more times, took a deep look at Sun Hao’s image within it, then with a flicker of light, the orb vanished.
Back on the bustling street, Sun Hao's body gave a slight tremor. He glanced at the Border Collie perched on his shoulder.
The dog’s eyes darted around thoughtfully before it gave a small nod.
Sun Hao discreetly wiped a cold sweat from his forehead. Moments before, he had been certain someone had locked onto him with an incredibly peculiar aura, something so elusive even he couldn't fully perceive it. It was highly likely a powerful being stationed by the Warlock or Witch Clan in the Middle Void, probing him for anomalies.
The Border Collie had evidently sensed it too.
Only Gerlane, hopping ahead on the White Cloud, remained completely oblivious.
Before long, Germain appeared beside Gerlane. "Little Sister," he said quietly. "Mother wants you back. She needs to assign some tasks to Jiang Xiaoshan. Jiang Xiaoshan... do you know the Void script?"
Sun Hao nodded. "Yes. I studied it in the tribe with the Saintess. I'm fully proficient."
Germain seemed to let out a small sigh of relief. "Good. That settles that. Come with me."
Sun Hao did not see Little Lan's mother, but the task was laid out clearly:
A rather unconventional task, which Sun Hao gladly accepted: to accompany Gerlane in her reading, and exert every possible effort to help her understand the stories and past events within the books.
He had just arrived in the Middle Void and had been pondering how to swiftly familiarize himself with its information. Unexpectedly, the opportunity dropped into his lap.
He truly felt like he'd been hit by a pie once again.
The pillow arrived just as he longed to sleep.
Sun Hao became Gerlane’s Knight Tutor. His primary duty: to tutor Gerlane in reading and, more importantly, help her grasp the overall meaning and narratives within the stories.
Sun Hao took office immediately. The Knight Tutor began fulfilling his responsibilities.
Taking Gerlane into the Witch Clan's archives, Sun Hao instructed: "Little Lan, browse any book freely. If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask me. If I can explain it, I will..."
