Chapter 6
“Excuse me,” Yohana said when she stepped off the elevator and almost ran into someone.
When she looked up and saw that it was Canyon that she almost walked straight into, Yohana was stunned.
She had stopped by a lawyer’s office to start the process of filing for divorce, and he was the last person that she ever expected to see.
Canyon was just as surprised to see her.
He too had come just to go over the prospect of filing for divorce from Cheyenne with his lawyer.
He talked that big boy shit, but every time he thought about filing for real, he felt bad.
Had he never cheated, Cheyenne wouldn’t be in prison, and she wouldn’t be going through all the emotional turmoil that she was.
Maybe when she came home, they could go to therapy or some shit and make it right.
When his eyes fell on Yohana however, he forgot all about his marital issues.
He took in her white jeans, white camisole, and powder blue blazer. The strappy powder blue heels on her feet, set the outfit off just right and once again, her bag matched her attire.
“Luck must be on my side today,” he stated as he inhaled the floral scent that she wore. It was a soft subtle scent.
Yohana gave him a small smile. “I heard Mr. Bowen is the best divorce attorney around. I just wanted to come and talk to him about ending my marriage.”
“No explanation needed. I know you’re still married technically, and I’m not sure where your head is at the moment, but would you like to have dinner tonight?
No strings attached. After all, even if it’s for a short while, we are business partners.
” He had told Farrah that mixing business and pleasure wasn’t a good idea, and he still stood by that.
But there was just something about Yohana.
It had been a very long time since a woman had his interest piqued beyond what was between her legs.
Canyon couldn’t even explain the purpose for asking her out.
Maybe it was so he could feel her out. She was gorgeous, but he saw gorgeous women every day.
Just as he saw nice bodies and women with excellent careers and their own bag.
Canyon had access to every kind of woman one could think of.
Even when Cheyenne was angry with him, he tried to keep his sexual trysts few and far between.
Canyon didn’t have sex weekly. Sometimes, he didn’t even have sex monthly.
The longest he’d gone without sex since his wife had been away was four months. That shit almost killed him.
Yohana was a little shocked by the invitation, but he was a handsome man, and she was a beautiful woman.
Yohana was far from conceited. It was just something that she’d been hearing her entire life from men, women, and strangers.
There wasn’t even anything super unique about her appearance.
She had just always been the one to keep herself up, she cared about her health, and she had a pure heart.
Her inner beauty radiated more than her outer beauty for sure.
“Umm sure we can do that.”
“Cool. The Capital Grille cool?”
“Yes.”
“I can pick you up at eight, or you can meet me there. Whichever you prefer.”
“I can meet you there.”
“I’ll see you then.”
Yohana smiled and headed for the exit. It had been sixteen years since she was with any man other than Zone.
Dating, having sex, conversation, sharing her life.
It had only been him for the past fifteen years.
Her being with anyone other than him was so long ago, that she was damn near nervous.
“Don’t read too much into this, Yohana,” she mumbled to herself as she hit the unlock button on her key fob.
Maybe he was just trying to feel her out.
Yohana had been going to bed alone every night for the past almost thirteen months now.
For pretty much a year, she hadn’t been hugged, kissed, or touched by a man.
Seeing as how she was about to divorce her snitch of a husband, Yohana didn’t see the harm in getting her feet wet in the dating pool, but she would have to be careful if only for her son.
He didn’t know that his father was a snitch, and he didn’t yet know about the divorce.
Yohana would never have him around a man that she didn’t plan on being with for a while, but she wasn’t even ready for her son to know that she was dating yet.
Losing his father was still taking a toll on him.
Zone might have been a rat, but he was a good dad.
Was she kidding herself by dating another drug dealer? What was to stop Canyon from one day having the same fate as Morris and Zone? “It’s just a date,” she assured herself. Nothing more nothing less.
When Raven’s doorbell rang, she was calm, and she had to attribute that to the Xanax that she had taken.
It was a very small dosage that her therapist gave her when her sister died.
A year before, Raven’s sister was at a kick back when shots rang out, and she was shot in the head by a stray bullet.
Raven and her sister were only two years apart, and the women were very close.
Her sister lived in South Carolina with her boyfriend, so they didn’t see each other all the time, but they talked and texted regularly.
After her sister’s death, large crowds began to freak Raven out.
She could be in the grocery store and if it was too packed, out of nowhere, she’d have a panic attack.
The Xanax helped with her anxiety a lot, but she didn’t want to become addicted to them, so she only took them when absolutely necessary, and today was absolutely necessary.
If she tried to go with this nigga while off her meds, she might have a full-blown panic attack, and he might shoot her ass.
When she opened the door, she saw the fine dark-skinned one with the gold teeth standing on her porch with a smirk on his face. “Ready?”
Raven rolled her eyes upward causing him to laugh, but she didn’t see shit funny. Dumb ass, she thought to herself. “You’re going to follow me.” He held his hand out. “I need your phone.”
Raven drew back. “Excuse me?” she hissed.
Diric let out a small sigh. “All that attitude and shit isn’t gon’ get you nowhere but on my got damn nerves. If I say something, just do the shit. Things will go smoother and a lot faster. Having to repeat myself is one of my pet peeves.”
Raven narrowed her eyes at him but rather than voicing her feelings, she thrust her phone into his hand.
If she told him what got on her nerves, he just might shoot her.
She was ready to be away from his obnoxious ass.
Raven walked over to her car and got in.
She slammed her car door angrily while he walked past her car seemingly unbothered.
He would be so fine if he wasn’t such a dick.
Shit, he was still fine, but that didn’t matter when she wanted to gouge his eyes out of his head.
Raven breathed in through her nose and out through her mouth several times in an effort to calm herself.
Maybe if she did just do what he asked things would in fact go smoothly, and she could be done with them.
She had seen on social media where Xander’s friends and family were posting shit and asking for prayers.
Raven didn’t know how he was doing, but he was obviously still alive.
She went through and deleted every last one of them. Fuck them all.
Raven followed Diric for about seventeen miles before they pulled up at a brick house in a neighborhood that she wasn’t familiar with.
After she pulled in behind him, she waited while wondering what waited on her inside the house.
He got out of his car, and Raven realized that she didn’t even know what his name was.
He held up one finger signaling her to wait, and he went inside the house.
It pissed her off that she was here working off Xander’s debt when she wasn’t even tied to him anymore.
How did he end up owing Canyon money when he appeared to have money to trick with?
Raven would bet her last dollar he paid for that lavish ass gender reveal.
Then, she chuckled figuring she had answered her own question.
Nigga crossed the plug to impress a bunch of muhfuckas on social media.
Raven had watched that video over and over again.
The food, the decorations, it all cost a pretty penny.
Bitch ass nigga. Just thinking about it made her blood boil.
Diric emerged from the house with a small cardboard box.
He walked over to her car, opened the rear passenger door, and placed the box inside.
He then stood by her door, and she rolled the window down.
He extended her phone to her. “I’m going to give you the address to put in your GPS.
Don’t try no funny shit ma, ‘cus you won’t make it to the hospital.
I’ll dispose of the body myself. The address you’re going to is twenty miles from here.
In the next forty minutes or so, my man better be calling me telling me he got his shit, or you got problems. When you pull up at the place, it’ll be an auto mechanic shop.
Just wait. Someone will come out to the car and get it.
After that, you’re done for the day. I’ll come scoop you tomorrow at the same time. ”
Sounded easy enough, and she prayed that it was.
Raven unlocked her phone, and he rattled off the address to give her.
Raven wasn’t even nervous about the amount of drugs that she was riding with.
She was nervous about what would happen to her if she fucked this up.
Fine ass had made it perfectly clear that he didn’t give a damn about killing her.
Just the thought made a chill run down her spine.
