Chapter 14
Her day had been going too damn good. Why couldn’t she just be happy?
Why was it that every time Heiress was having a good day some bullshit had to occur?
She was almost done getting her butterfly locs when Kirah walked into the salon.
Pretty Kirah with the fat ass. The girl that all the dope boys wanted.
Heiress was no slouch either and Kirah only had Amar because Heiress passed him along.
It still made her feel some kind of way though.
Her and Kirah didn’t know each other for real.
They had only seen each other in passing.
Kirah wasn’t stuck up like some thought she would be however, so when she entered the shop, she said a general hello to everyone, and Heiress spoke back.
The chick doing Heiress’ hair, was talking a mile a minute about how she felt like her boyfriend wasn’t trying hard enough in their relationship. Heiress was trying to pay attention, but she found herself eavesdropping on the conversation going on between Kirah and her stylist.
“Girl you gon’ slay the hell out of them inches, and I’m gon’ secure that hoe nice and tight, so it won’t come off when your man gets to pulling on it. You and Amar looked so cute for his birthday.”
The smile on Kirah’s face stretched a mile long.
“Baby, that man is something serious, okay? I don’t see no other niggas.
This guy followed me from the gas station trying to get my attention,” Kirah laughed.
“At every red light he tried to get me to give him my number. He wasn’t no slouch either.
Baby boy was driving a Genesis and had some real heavy ice on his neck.
Still, my boo makes all these niggas look like lames.
I took the number though just because technically, I am single.
But I’m only using it, if ole boy messes up. ”
“Girl, you better keep him in your pocket for sure. I don’t know one straight bitch in this city that wouldn’t love to have that. Some gay chicks might want his ass too,” the stylist laughed.
Heiress felt like she was going to be sick.
And out of all the women that wanted him initially, Amar had wanted her.
She deserved him. Heiress kept telling herself that Amar didn’t deserve a woman with the kind of issues that she had, but she deserved a good man.
After what Kevin did to her, Heiress needed to be loved properly, but she didn’t know how to receive it.
She had dated guys that all the girls wanted.
The popular niggas that had thirty females and wasn’t trying to commit to any of them.
She dated the cocky arrogant guys, and the guys that were super jealous.
For whatever reason, she always attracted toxic and dysfunctional so by the time she met someone different, she was already damaged. Traumatized.
Heiress was so happy when her stylist handed her the mirror, so she could look at her hair.
She was more than ready to get out of that shop.
Maybe instead of lying about it, she should have stayed in Chicago for real.
She then wouldn’t have to worry about running into Amar or anyone that he was fucking.
Heiress knew women like Kirah. She would pull out all the stops to get a man like Amar, and it wasn’t because she loved him.
Now that she knew him, of course, Kirah probably genuinely liked Amar.
But in the beginning, Heiress was sure that bagging a nigga like Amar was some sort of accomplishment for Kirah.
She was the kind of female that loved being the center of attention and what better way to be that than to have a nigga like Amar?
Heiress paid for her hair and left the shop.
She had to go home and get busy sewing. She was unleashing a new summer line, and she was focused.
No dating, no dick, no clubbing. Within the next two weeks, she wanted to have more than ten different designs to add to her website.
If each of her custom pieces sold out, she’d make more than $5,000.
Since she was scared to fall in love, Heiress would do something that she couldn’t go wrong with, and that was getting to a bag.
Yohana grabbed her backpack and her purse and got out of her car.
It was her first night of real estate class.
Just as she locked her car, she saw a familiar car pull up, and she thought she was tripping until the car stopped in front of hers, and Canyon opened the door of his vehicle.
She couldn’t stop the smile that graced her face.
That was why he had asked so many questions about where she was taking her class.
Yohana thought he was just making conversation.
She was venting to him about having a stressful day and rushing and not having enough time to do anything before she had to cook dinner for Kari and get ready for class.
When Canyon emerged from the car with a strawberry banana smoothie from Panera Bread and a bag that she was sure contained her favorite bagel, she wanted to fuck him right then and there.
Her vagina was still sore from all the sex they had at the resort, but Yohana didn’t care.
During their trip, they had sex more than five times, and each time was better than the one before.
In such a short amount of time, Yohana had fallen for Canyon hard.
She felt like a schoolgirl with her first crush.
“You are too sweet,” she stated as he passed her the items.
“You sounded kind of stressed on the phone, and we can’t have that. I need you relaxed and focused. You’ll get your license in just enough time to help me purchase some more investment properties. I’m counting on you.” He winked at her, and her heart melted.
“That’s not pressure at all,” she smiled.
“You’ll do fine. Call me when you get out of class.”
“Will do.”
Yohana felt as if she was on cloud nine as Canyon got in his car and pulled off.
He didn’t have to have the kind of money that he did.
Canyon could have had a regular job making $13 an hour, and he would still be that nigga.
She was sold on him as a person, and it hadn’t even been that long.
She had been in a relationship for the past fifteen years, but her best friend had no luck in the dating field.
Grown ass men their age and older were still out here lying and playing games.
Erica complained about it at least once a week.
Yohana always told her that she was glad she wasn’t out here single and looking.
Her marriage was far from perfect, but she never saw herself divorcing Zone and jumping back into the dating pool.
Who knew where her and Canyon would end up?
But what she did appreciate was the fact that he was super mature.
He didn’t play games. He was thoughtful and romantic, and the D was amazing!
Even if they didn’t work, he had set the bar high as hell.
Yohana couldn’t date anyone else if they weren’t coming like Canyon.
They had only been back from the ski resort for a few days, and he was already talking about their next trip.
The man was absolutely a breath of fresh air.
Yohana walked into the classroom and found a seat near the back.
She was determined to focus and to put her all into being a real estate broker.
She wouldn’t put all the blame on Zone. Both of them had already failed Kari once.
Now, it was up to her to step in and be the parent that he needed her to be.
She couldn’t take Zone’s place, but she could try to make the rest of her son’s childhood as comfortable and normal as possible.
He had even asked her if he could go to public school next school year.
Yohana had always taken pride in the fact that her son was getting a top tier education, but she wouldn’t make him go to school with kids that were looking at him sideways because of what happened to Zone.
She assured him that he could transfer to public school.
Lowkey, that was a weight lifted off her because she didn’t have to worry about the cost of tuition.
Yohana pulled her textbook out of her bookbag. She made a promise to herself that in the next six months, money would no longer be an issue for her.
