Chapter 10
ten
Adelaide
The club is pumping and I don’t need to be asked twice to get up and dance.
Ellie, my new pal from work, is really cool and said we needed a girls’ night out, since I didn’t know anyone in the city.
I’ve never found it hard to make friends, but I’ve been so busy pulling double shifts and trying to sort out my apartment that there’s been little to no time to socialize.
I’ll admit, it took me a couple of drinks to get me in the mood, but after two cosmopolitans, I’m ready to boogie.
Ellie came over to help me decide what to wear.
I’m embarrassed to say I do have clothes in my closet that are labelled ‘never had the guts to wear’ that Ellie beelined to, insisting I wear the current dress I’m sporting.
I’ll admit, without her here, I would’ve just worn jeans and a nice top.
I rarely wear dresses, but once I got it on, my confidence grew.
It’s black—sitting just above the knee—and tight, has mesh long sleeves with a deep V cut tube with black mesh under it. It’s sexy but also classic, and a little provocative.
The way the material hugged my figure when I stood in front of the mirror made me relieved that I’d spent so much on it. Delaney would be proud I know that much, I plan on sending her a pic later.
“Oh fucking jeepers!” Ellie clapped her hands when I did a little turn. “If you don’t plan on getting lucky tonight, honey, you’d better put something else on.”
The only person I want to get lucky with is Denver. He will be coming tonight, he said he’d see us there and will find us.
I confessed to Ellie, because I needed to talk to a neutral person about the whole Denver situation.
Of course, her advice was to simply go for it and not worry about what other people think.
Plus, she’s right; my brother knows I’m an adult, and if he has a problem with it, then that’s his issue.
Besides, I want to hook up with D, nothing more.
At least, that’s what I tell myself. I’ve been self-protecting a lot after Cam.
I never wanted to let anybody in ever again.
Looking back, it wasn’t all bad. As in, I found out exactly what it was I didn’t want. That in itself was pure gold.
I will never stick around in another relationship playing second fiddle to a man who doesn’t appreciate me. I can’t imagine Denver being that way, but then again, I don’t know anything about him and his previous relationships, all I’ve got to go on is that dreadful Hannah.
Sorry—not sorry—but Hannh was punching way above her base line with D. He’s far too good for that awful woman.
Quite a crowd is gathering and guys are offering us drinks and wanting to dance with us. Ellie warned me earlier, and this is the type of place you go to hook up, but I just want to dance.
I also don’t take drinks from strange men, so we both politely refuse and keep dancing with each other.
The floor is crowded, and we try to move away from the dudes eyeing us up.
I know I dressed like this all by myself, and I like men looking, but that doesn’t mean I want to be touched.
When one of the guys comes up behind me, his hands about to reach for my hips, I turn and step back. “I’m taken,” I say.
He pouts. “You’re gorgeous, a fucking knockout.”
“Thanks.”
That was kinda sweet, but when he turns and does the exact same thing to another unsuspecting woman, I roll my eyes.
I’m lost in the music as Ellie and I dance back to back, and I really let loose.
Even though I’m a bigger girl, I’ve always been a good dancer.
It may have taken me a couple of very strong cocktails to realize that I’d almost forgotten about my athletic ability on the dance floor, but I’m reminded now as me and Ellie join hands and spin.
We both laugh, almost bumping into people as we make up our own routine, they begin to clap around us, egging us on.
“Clearly I can’t take you anywhere,” Ellie laughs.
I snort. “Seriously? You’re the blonde bombshell around here, not me.”
Ellie has shoulder-length platinum hair, flawless makeup and pretty blue eyes. She has a gorgeous mid-sized body and knows how to shake her booty. We hit it off because Ellie is really outgoing too, and doesn’t shy away from conversations.
“I’m betting you’re glad you came now, aren’t you?” she goes on as the song changes.
“I totally am!” I squeal when I hear the next song that I adore and we start all over again.
Ellie is a good dancer, and as the dance floor grows, we try our best to keep to ourselves. I don’t mind dancing with dudes, but not when they get handsy.
Somewhere between impromptu fits of laughter at our ridiculousness, and Ellie wrapping her arms around a cute guy’s neck—apparently he’s called Shaun and they’ve hooked up before—I glance around me, straight through the gap on the dance floor, where my eyes lock on Denver.
At least, I think it’s him. It’s dark, obviously, but I’d recognize his silhouette any day of the week.
My eyes must be deceiving me though because I know he wasn’t keen on clubbing. But he’s here.
He’s standing on the outskirts of the dance floor, his hands in his jeans pockets like he doesn’t know what else to do with them.
Then as the lights flash by and I catch sight of his face…
yep, my spidey senses were correct. Denver’s sexy green eyes stare at me with a look on his face I’ve never seen before.
Awe and lust, if I had to describe it, but something else as well. Jealousy?
That inkling is confirmed when a man moves in front of my view, blocking Denver out as he starts to swivel his hips toward me. I mean, he’s not bad looking, but I only have eyes for Denver.
A few seconds later, my eyes widen when I see Denver approaching, but then he moves to the side, sliding behind me as I feel his hands on my hips. He pulls me closer to him, my back to his front and whispers, “Show’s over, Princess.”
I tilt my head, his breath on my neck makes me shiver. He’s looking over my head at the guy in front of me. “Beat it,” he says in a menacing tone.
I use this opportunity to test Denver’s limits.
I mean, he chose to come and interrupt, so I may as well make him work for it.
I swirl my ass side to side, my arms raised above my head as I grind back against him.
Holy moly. This man is pure steel, I’m well aware of that, but the way his hands grip my hips sends a new thrill right through me.
“That was rude,” I say, not sure if he can even hear me. “Not a sharer?”
“Letting another man see you in this dress is not my idea of fun, baby girl. And no. I’m not a sharer.”
I lower my body so I’m brushing all the way down his torso, then move back up. I don’t just feel him, I fucking feel him. His erection presses up against my back as I tease him with my dance moves.
He spins me so I’m facing him. His fingers grip my chin. “You are a fucking sight, Adi.”
“What are you going to do about it?”
He closes his eyes for a second as I continue to move in front of him. When they open, they dip down. First to my chest, then even lower. I hope my hips—heck, my entire body—look like a fucking road map to his universe, and I’m not just blowing my own horn; this dress should be illegal.
“You’d be shocked what I want to do to you.”
I move closer to him, pulling him by the waistband at the same time.
He looks like a dream. His black, collared shirt is open at the nape, his hair freshly washed and still damp.
And that scent again… it does things to my insides and makes me want to jump him right here and now, not caring who sees.
“Try me.”
He tilts my chin so our eyes meet. “I shouldn’t be here.”
“Yes, you should.”
His eyes shift down to my cleavage and I revel in his delight. “You look like my own private wet dream, Princess, and that ain’t cool.”
“Really? I beg to differ.” I place a finger over his mouth, not wanting him to say anything else because negativity will surely ensue. “Let’s just enjoy this dance.”
He smirks while his hands slide down my body and I almost lose myself in his touch. I’m so wet. I feel it everywhere. When he begins to move, really move, I’m lost in the tempo, the heat, and the sexy way he can’t keep his eyes off me.
I’m bolder than I usually am, one hand planted on his chest as my other entwines with his, and then he spins me. My back hits his chest and he pulls me close again. We sway and I grind back against him. Hearing him groan like that, his grip tightening around my waist, makes me so fucking ferral.
“I want you,” I mutter. “Please, Denver.”
“Please, Denver, what?” he mutters against my ear.
“For tonight, forget who we are to each other. I can’t take this anymore.”
“Babe—”
“You came over here for one reason and one reason only,” I remind him. “You were jealous when you saw me dancing with someone else, admit it.”
He doesn’t, but I hear the low growl in his chest and I smile smugly, even though he can’t see my face.
“We’d be so good together.”
“That’s the problem,” he says, his voice low, barely audible, but then he adds, “But I also can’t fight this anymore. I’m done.”
He’s done?
Before I know what’s happening, he spins me again and cups my face. Leaning forward he presses his forehead against mine. “What am I gonna do with you, Adi?”
“I can think of a few things,” I whimper.
“Fuck, baby, we can’t tell Daryl…”
“I know that,” I mutter. “Just kiss me. Kiss me like you want it—”
He doesn’t even let me finish the words and his mouth is on mine. I wrap my arms around his waist, hardly daring to believe that it’s happening again. This time, instead of a fake kiss to piss off his ex and her mean friends, it’s real.
When his tongue finds mine, a new ecstasy rises inside of me and I want so much more.
“My place,” he mutters between kisses. “My place is closer.”
“I just have to tell Ellie I’m leaving,” I pant.
He pulls back, stroking one side of my face. “I’ll be by the front door. Make it quick.”
I love how demanding he is all of a sudden. With my heart racing I nod, then turn to seek out Ellie, who’s still in the embrace of Shaun. I quickly tell her I’m leaving with Denver and she jumps up and down with delight, hugging me.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” I don’t mean to glance warily at Shaun, but I can’t help it. Ditching my friend was never on the cards tonight, but she seems content.
“We’re going back to his place.” Ellie shrugs. “So you have yourself a great night. I can’t wait to hear all about it.”
“You too.” We hug again and I take off.
Denver is exactly where he said he’d be, and he reaches his arm out to clasp my hand when I get closer to him. “Do you have a jacket?”
“Oh, shoot, the cloakroom,” I mutter, hunting around for my ticket. When I find it, Denver plucks it from my hands and goes to retrieve it. A few moments later, he’s wrapping my black shawl around my neck and he takes my hand again.
We step out into the chilly air and he wraps an arm around my shoulder. “I’m a few blocks away. You’re okay with walking?”
I nod, unable to form words.
We barely speak. The air is crisp and on any other night, I’d be awakened to what I’m doing. But right now? I don’t care. I want Denver. I want to be under him when he pistons me with his hips and his cock. I’ve dreamed about this moment, never really believing that it would happen.
“Adi?” he says when we stop in front of a fancy looking apartment block. “You don’t have to do this. That dance was sexy as fuck, and I admit I was jealous—”
“I’m gonna be blunt, D, so buckle up. I want you to fuck me, plain and simple. Hard, fast, slow, up against the wall, I don’t care, but I want you. I’ve never wanted anyone so bad.”
His eyes scorch as he bends to kiss me again.
I don’t remember how we made it inside, if we rode the elevator, or how we get into his apartment, but the second we’re in there, he pushes me up against the wall and his hands brace either side of my head.
“Now, we need to talk about this slutty dress, baby girl, and how fucking hot you look in it.”
I smirk, my eyes twinkling under his observation. “Let’s talk about how hot I look out of it, hot shot.”
He grins. “Your wish is my command.”
