Fulfill my fiancée and her childhood sweetheart
chapter 1
The Montgomery sisters had been waiting outside the room.
With an unspoken understanding, they nudged Isabella Montgomery toward me.
Well, Alexander, youve been chasing after Isabella since you were a kid. Guess you finally got what you wanted, huh?
Tsk, tsk. Youre the eldest son of the Knight family. Do you really have to be this desperate?
Isabella crossed her arms and stared at me in mockery.
So, youve set your sights on me, huh? I know our parents have talked about this marriage, but Id advise you not to get your hopes up. If your familys offer doesnt meet my expectations, I wont marry you.
Her voice was cold and disdainful.
Her self-serving attitude was exactly the same as in the previous life.
My love had never meant anything to her.
I looked at her and said indifferently, Isabella, youre not the only daughter in the Montgomery family.
Her arrogance dropped a notch as soon as I said that.
Confused glances passed between the sisters.
Our families friendship dated back to the founding of the Bellaion.
They had made a pact that the next generation would unite the family through marriage.
As the engagement did not happen in our parents generation, it was passed down to us.
The Montgomery family even declared that whoever married me would inherit the family legacy.
After a beat of silence, Isabella let out a soft chuckle.
Alexander, you seriously think that weak attempt would get to me?
The Montgomery sisters recovered from their brief pause and chuckled with her.
Isabella, our family business will reach new heights with you at the helm. Just dont forget about us when youre running the show.
Isabella basked in their flattery with a smug grin plastered across her face.
After a while, she cast me a dismissive glance.
Youve spent ten years chasing after me. Who else would even want you? Let me make one thing clear...
She gestured for the other Montgomery sisters to leave the room.
To avoid repeating the same mistakes, Ill marry you. But my heart belongs to Sebastian. As long as you stay out of our way, Ill let you have the title and honor of being my husband in name.
My eyes widened in shock at those words.
In the previous life, she had hidden it too well. She had never dared say something like that outright.
Had she been reborn, too?
Just as I hesitated to ask, a figure approached us.
Alexander, what are you and Isabella doing standing here?
Sebastian Knight was talking to me, but his gaze was fixed on Isabella.
Isabellas eyes instantly welled up with tears. She turned around and threw herself into Sebastians arms.
Then, she cooed in a tone I had never heard her use before.
Sebastian, what are you doing here?
Sebastian was stunned for a second before he wrapped his arms around her even tighter.
He shot me a taunting look and tried to sound flustered.
Isabella, youre Alexanders fiancee. This isnt proper.
Isabella snorted.
Nothing about this is improper. If he blames you, he can forget about marrying me.
With that, she grabbed Sebastians hand without hesitation and walked away.
I rubbed the photo of Sophia Montgomery in my hand and sneered.
Isabella, I was never going to marry you anyway.
The coming-of-age ceremony was nearing its end.
Most of the guests had left when Isabella and Sebastian finally reappeared.
Isabella had changed into a high-neck gown, while faint, suggestive marks adorned Sebastians neck.
The air between them was so thick with intimacy that one could almost smell it.
The old me would have stormed up to them in a fit of rage and confronted them.
However, I had seen this play out countless times in my past life.
I was numb to it.
I tipped my head back and drained my glass of wine. Then, I turned to leave.
When Isabella saw my indifference, she frowned.
For the first time, she called out to me.
Alexander, whats with the attitude? Im your fiancee, and Sebastians your brother. Its rude of you to leave without even saying hi! Did you forget your manners? Apologize to me and Sebastian right now, or youre not getting your birthday gift this year!
She was clutching a small ring box.
Sebastian took it from her and waved it in front of me with a smug look.
Alexander, Isabella had this custom-made just for you! She put a lot of thought into it.
My gaze followed the box. That was when I noticed a custom ring on Sebastians finger.
The logo matched the one on the box in his hands.
I sneered and said sarcastically, She put a lot of thought into it? Looks to me like the ring on your finger took more thought than that.
Sebastian could barely suppress his grin. He put on a look of mock innocence.
What? No way! This ones just a bonus that came with your gift.
Sebastian flipped open the ring box and tossed it at me.
I did not reach out for it.
The box hit the floor with a soft thud. A silver necklace tumbled out of it, even though it was supposed to contain a ring. I knew in that instant what the necklace was supposed to be.
Isabellas frown deepened. She snapped, Alexander, why are you standing there like a block of wood? Didnt you see the gift I got you fall to the floor? Pick it up!
I let out a bitter chuckle.
A freebie necklace that comes with a ring You call that a gift?
Sebastian hurried to pick up the necklace as if it were something precious. He shot me a disapproving glare.
Isabella picked it out for you. Its from the heart!
From the heart? How many of her so-called heartfelt gifts had I received in my previous life?
For as long as I could remember, every year on my birthday, I received nothing but junk from Isabella.
Leaves she picked off a tree, a doll she did not want anymore, crumpled paper balls she tossed around when she was annoyed, among other things.
Whatever was lying within reach, that was what she gifted me.
Back then, I treated every piece of trash like treasure and carefully kept them all.
In my past life, I even showed them to her proudly after we got married. I thought that would please her.
All I got back was her ruthless mockery.
Alexander, are you a trash can or what? I cant believe you kept everything I threw away. Thats seriously creepy!
My heart broke at those words.
Isabella, however, did not think she was being cruel.
She even went around telling people all about it.
Ever since then, everyone in our circle looked at me with barely concealed mockery.
Just thinking about how I was ridiculed and talked about in my past life was enough to sour my mood in an instant.
I casually tossed the necklace onto the table and turned to leave.
But Isabella suddenly stepped in to block my way with her arms outstretched. Her eyes burned with rage.
Alexander, how dare you throw my gift away?! Pick up that necklace and clean it right now, or our engagement is over! Or else, even if you come crawling back to me on your knees, I might not change my mind!
I sneered at her.
Isabella, I was never going to marry you.
