Chapter Twenty-Four
Waverly
Islip down the stairs and wonder if I think I’m walking funny or if I really am walking like I’ve had a big ass dick in me all night long.
Because, uh, I kind of did. Once is not the word I can use to describe last night.
I had barely caught my breath before he was moving me onto my hands and knees, and he was pushing into me from behind.
My cheeks burn a bright red at the memories flashing through my mind like a movie.
A really sexy, erotic X-rated movie. And now I’m doing the walk of shame on my own since Memphis woke up earlier and told me he had to make a few phone calls today.
I acknowledged him -God, I hope I did- but rolled over and went back to sleep.
“Waverly!”
I jump like I just stole something and got caught. I turn to find Sadie coming towards me. Can she tell? I barely got my foot off the last step before she called me.
“Yes, yep, hi.”
“Waverly,” she leans closer and whispers. I can’t help but wonder if she’s going to confide in me that she also lost it last night. “I didn’t want to say anything…”
She can totally tell.
“But I can’t get in touch with Neve.”
Oh shit! Not what I was thinking she was going to tell me.
“When I call, it doesn’t even go to voicemail. It just rings and rings.”
Fuck!
“Okay, um, let’s go tell Memphis.”
“I didn’t want to worry Boston, but I’m really scared for her.”
I take her by the hand and pull her to the room hidden behind a statue flush to the wall. It looks like it’s carved into the wall, but it’s really a door. I knock hard on the thing and wait for it to open. When it opens, Boston looks at me like I might have two heads.
“How did…?”
“I watch your brother. A lot more than I should.”
His brows go up and he steps aside to let us in. Memphis doesn’t look any less surprised.
“I pay attention to you and what you do.”
I should just come clean and tell them all I’m a perv who's been watching Memphis like a New Yorker checks out a pizza.
He comes over and takes me in his arms with a sexy as sin smirk.
“You can watch me any time you want to, baby. I’m not shy. I like to put on a show for you.”
Oh. My. Fucking. God.
Damn it, this is serious. I've got to keep my mind focused on what is wrong even if Memphis isn’t making it easy for me. Especially when he is nuzzling into my neck and his hands are on my hips.
“Memphis, I…,” my voice starts to falter when his lips trace a path up my neck to the corner of my mouth.
“Memphis, we have something serious to tell you."
Sadie has my back, "So cut out the kissing and flirting and pay attention.”
He finally gives me a little space, giving me time to unscramble my brain.
“What’s wrong, baby?”
“Sadie hasn’t been able to contact Neve.”
His eyes go cold, and he looks over the top of my head at Boston.
“Damn it.” Memphis has his phone out dialing her number.
“Memphis told the Chief what you told him last night, and he said he was having some trouble out of one of his detectives.”
“Wallen?” I say it as a question even though I already know.
“Yeah. He’s making a bitch about not knowing where the two of you went. Memphis and the Chief don’t like how much he’s been trying to figure out where you are.” Boston tells us in a hushed tone as we all wait.
“Fuck!” Memphis comes back over with his phone clenched in his hand. All four of us leave the room and make our way out on the porch, listening intently to what Memphis is about to say, “We need to…”
He’s cut off by an alert of some kind.
“Is it a tornado?”
It does sound like a tornado siren, but Memphis is shaking his head no.
“Someone’s here. Get back inside.”
“Memphis!”
“Get in the house now, baby.”
I give him a nod and take Sadie by the hand so we can both go back inside. Before I can even shut the door, Sadie is screaming bloody murder, and I am standing in front of a tall, blonde man with tattoos running up and down his arms and cold gray eyes. He very much looks like he’s up to no good.
Memphis and Boston run back through the door with guns drawn, ready to protect us. A sense of safety and pride comes over me that he got to us so fast and how hot he looks holding a gun. Out of nowhere, a small body darts out to stand in front of the man.
“No! Don’t shoot him!”
Neve?
“Damn it, woman! I told you to stay put until the weapons were put away! What part of that didn’t you understand?”
“The part where my brother shoots you because you’re being a dumb ass!”
That doesn’t sound like Neve at all, but there is no doubt, she is standing in front of us facing down this man like it’s nothing.
