Chapter Twenty-Nine

Waverly

My mind drifts back to last night. All of last night.

It was like Memphis was trying to show me how much he…

cares about me. He made me feel like I was the sexiest woman he had ever been around with the whole mirror thing, and then after, when he speared inside of me and both of us started moving in time, perfectly synced to each other. It was…magical.

And he wasn’t done with me. After we both came like that, he rolled us over and brought me up on my hands and knees to take me that way.

He feels even bigger that way. My face burns at the thought of what he did next.

He spanked me, and it was the most erotic thing I could have ever dreamed of.

I read about shit like this; it doesn’t happen to me, but with Memphis it does!

We made love all night and when we finally slept, we still turned to each other and stayed wrapped around one another.

“They’ll be okay.”

Sadie pulls my attention back from last night to the now.

I can only be grateful for last night considering how today has gone.

After making love to me one more time, Memphis dropped that they were going to pick up the two men causing us all the pain.

Today! No warning, no time for second thoughts or nerves.

I barely got to kiss him before he was just gone.

I'm not sure if they were going with police backup or if it will just be the fucking three of them. And my brother and his girlfriend left before they did. I didn’t even get to tell him bye since I was still in bed when he headed back to town.

“Of course they will.”

I don’t even want to think about what would happen if they’re not. This emptiness inside of me is more than a house not occupied; it’s more than being alone and lonesome. This is like I’m missing something that should be attached to me. Something not just important but vital. Needed.

Oh my God!

I think I’m in love!

I think this might be what it's like when…you need someone. Not because of what they can do for you but because they complete you in a way you never realized you were incomplete. So many emotions and thoughts go through me at once. The most blaring one is he better be okay after he’s made me fall in love with him or so help me…

! It is followed closely by what if he doesn’t feel the same way I do.

I know he told me I’m his, but I’m his is not I love you.

Is it? Damn it! Why have I never paid attention to all the rom-coms Sadie watches?

Is this even freakin’ normal, to feel this way?

Am I a cliché falling in love with the person I gave all my firsts to?

Oh God! What if he doesn’t love me but wants me?

Those are two very different things and can be so easily confused. Right?

“You look like you just ate something spoiled, Wave. He really is going to be okay?” I look at Neve and wonder how she can be so calm when her brothers and the man she’s been crushing on - and presumably lost her V-card to - is doing something dangerous?

“Look, I’m worried too.” Is she reading my mind?

“But I also know how good they are at what they do and that they’re going to be extra careful now that they have something to lose waiting for them.

Sometimes you have to let go and they’ll come back to you. ”

Sometimes I hate Neve -not really- and wonder how she got so damned smart for someone younger than me, even if it is only one year younger? My phone rings and I go for it like it’s a lifeline. I can’t bring it to my ear quick enough.

“Hello.” Damn, I sound desperate even to my own ears.

“Hey, baby.” A shaky sob comes out of me that I try to hide so he doesn’t worry or become distracted because of me. “We got them. It’s gonna be alright now. The kid’s alright, a little beaten up, but otherwise alright. I just wanted to call to let you know I’m safe…and to hear your voice.”

“I love you!” Oh! My! Fucking! GOD!

There is not a sound coming from the other side of the phone and I think I might have fucked up. Bad!

“Baby, you can not tell me this!” Oh fuck! I did screw up. “Not when I’m not with you so I can hold you and make love to you when you say it.”

“Y…you…aren’t mad?”

“About you telling me you love me? Hell no! And as soon as I'm home, I’m going to let you know…I feel the same way!”

“You do?”

“Oh, hell yeah! But I’m not going to say it now. I want to be able to hold you and love on you when I say it.”

“O…okay. I…I like the way that sounds.” A smile is tilting the corners of my mouth up.

“Memphis!” The chief yells for him and he has to go.

“I’m glad you're alright. I’ll be waiting.” I’m suddenly shy now that I’ve spewed my guts out to him.

“You better be, baby. I got something I need to tell you when I get there.”

The other girls get phone calls too, and after, the tension in the cabin has lifted some.

Now we have an impromptu girls’ day and turn the music up too loud as we finally settle down enough to eat.

We even decide to eat outside on the picnic table since Memphis has taken care of the bad guys and the threat to us has passed.

“Shit, I left iced tea inside.” Sadie turns around to go back inside.

“I’ll go get it, darlin’.” It’s just easier since I’m closer to the door anyway.

I bounce up the steps and into the cabin…only to come up short when I spot someone standing in the living room who is not one of our three men.

Oh Fuck!

We weren't as safe as we thought we were.

“Come in and shut the door, little lady.” Detective Wallen is standing in front of me, and I don’t think he’s here to ask me questions about the kidnapping.

The light glints off the metal of the gun in his hand as he waves it around like it’s not a deadly weapon.

What the fuck am I going to do now? And can we just talk about how I hate the term little lady?

I could barf. My mind goes back to the problems at hand as I slowly close the door like he asked.
