I’ve got to pee.” I push gently at his body, but with a shout and wide eyes, he goes flying backward so far and so fast he slams into the wall in front of the bed.
The wall caves in slightly, and Saxon groans as he slides down into a crumpled heap on the floor.
“Holy fuck.” I look down at my hands in astonishment, my eyes widening.
“Are you okay?” I hurry off the bed, my and Saxon’s combined fluids sliding down my thighs as I race to check on my new mate.
I go to grab him, but he holds his hands up, and I flinch back, fearful that he might be afraid of me.
Seeing my reaction to his rejection has him grimacing.
“No, Lila, it’s okay, you are just adjusting to your new abilities. It’s going to take a few days for them to settle. I’m okay, I promise, just a little surprised, that’s all. I have been hit a lot worse, but never by a female.” He pushes himself up off the floor and comes over to me.
I hold my hands up to stop him, frightened I’m going to hurt him again, but he just pushes them to the side and gathers me in his arms.
“You just need to concentrate on your movements a little more than normal. Your abilities will probably fluctuate up and down until they settle, but they will settle, and you will adjust and be magnificent,” he promises, placing a kiss on my head.
He is so tall he towers above me, and being in his arms must be what it’s like to be hugged by a grizzly bear minus, you know, the fur and death.
“Come on, let’s shower and then find your mate and some food.
You’ll feel better once you see him and your other potentials. ”
I relax a little more at the thought of seeing Cas, Xavier, and Link, but my nerves start to get the better of me again when I realize how careful I’ll need to be with them too.
I’m like Lady Thor on steroids, and as much as I like knowing I can protect myself, I don’t want to unintentionally hurt anyone.
The picture of Saxon sliding down the wall will haunt me for a while.
Despair starts to pierce my heart in a throbbing ache the more I think about my strength.
What if I do that to my other mates? They don’t have the same kind of resilience that he does. What if I hurt one of them?
Fuck my life. I don’t want to get sucked into this rabbit hole.
I let him lead me into a bathroom off to the side.
I now realize that the light in here and in the other room is very dim, but because of my new eyesight, everything is as clear as day for me.
I’m not sure how I’m going to cope with being in normal light.
I see why the Vilaxians like the dark now, and I remember reading that their planet only has seven hours of daylight or something like that.
Their eyesight must have evolved to adjust for the darkness.
Saxon points me to the toilet cubicle, and I close the door and pee, allowing myself a couple of deep breaths as I get my bearings. I don’t have time to freak out right now, but I will set aside some time for it a little while later.
Ten o’clock, lose my shit. I’ll add it to my calendar.
I’m sure everyone will understand. Maybe I’ll shift and go hide in the pretty grotto at the bottom of the mer pool.
If I’m quiet, hopefully that randy can of cat food won’t find me and I can freak out in peace.
Sure, I knew that I could change when I bonded with Saxon, but I had no idea it would be to this extent.
I’m sure once I calm down and get a moment to breathe, I will decide it’s cool as fuck.
“Lila, my beautiful blood rose, are you okay?” A knock on the door and Saxon’s concerned tone has me taking another couple of deep breaths before wiping and flushing. Putting on a small smile, I step out.
“Yeah, just taking a moment, you know.” I don’t have to explain. I see his eyes soften and know he understands.
“Hop in the shower, and I’ll find you something to wear.” He points at the already running water, knowing I need a few more minutes to myself. He presses a kiss to my forehead and disappears in a flash.
Sighing with relief, I climb under the hot spray and take another moment to myself. If the water hides a few tears, well, no one will ever know.
