Chapter 17 #2
Silac nods his head. “From what one of my brothers tells me, wherever my father goes, one of the basilisk brothers accompanies him. They aren’t willing to let him out of his sight until Kinga and I are married.”
“Where is Kinga staying? You said she wasn’t involved in any of the family activities,” Eric asks, and Silac shakes his head.
“None of the women are. They are all glorified prisoners and blackmail material.”
“So not only will we be wiping out a scourge on the galaxy, but we will also be freeing women and children. That is even better. Xylene will be most pleased, but we will search everyone for intent before we kill them. We want to make sure we are getting rid of the right people,” he assures Silac, who seems to sigh in relief.
“You have no idea how much this means to me. I will never be able to repay you.”
Cronus narrows his eyes and looks between me and the snake before grinning. “Well, now that you will be a free man, maybe that attraction mark on your shoulder will tell you what you should be doing with your time.”
The snake’s mouth drops open. “You know about that?”
“I know many things,” Cronus says cryptically, and Eric scoffs.
“Please, anyone, even people without mystical powers, can see that you and Lila are attracted to each other. At least you will get the opportunity to explore it guilt free now, which is a relief. I can’t stand seeing her look all mopey-eyed at you and the dragon.”
“The dragon seems to have had a change of heart though,” Cronus says, and I feel my eyebrows jump in surprise. This is news to me.
“He has?” I ask, and the king rubs his hands together like a gossipy old woman.
“Yes, he declared her his mate in front of the Aquilians and us. There is no going back from that now. I have already been in contact with his father to congratulate him.”
Eric groans. “You didn’t. Fuck, you are a meddler.”
“I told you I was bored. Xylene was with me too and didn’t stop me.”
Eric points an accusing finger at the king. “She’s as bad as you are.”
He shrugs unapologetically.
“Well, fixing Silac’s situation will keep you distracted and help us out immensely.
It leaves us to concentrate on getting Liliana back, and when we find out who is responsible for putting her there, I will send you a gold-plated invitation for the fight.
” Eric’s eyes gleam with bloodthirst, and a shiver courses down my back.
I wouldn’t want to be the person who has kept their wife captive for so many years.
She better be in a good condition when we find her, or the Adams brothers will tear down the universe trying to find the culprit.
“I’m sure my mother will offer you some cat warriors to assist with that. They are good trackers if you need those responsible sniffed out. They may need some environmental protection depending on where the trail leads them, but what Cronus did to Echo today should be enough.”
“Yes, and Xylene was speaking to the Vilaxian queen a week or so ago, and her elite warriors are bored and doing stupid things to entertain themselves, so I’m sure she will offer some help as well.
You have many people on your side, my friend, and we will ensure no harm will come to your family or this circus, and those responsible for your wife’s imprisonment will pay. ”
I feel like there may be some underlying message in those words, but Silac doesn’t seem to be any more in the know than I am, so I let it go. If we need to know more, I’m sure they will share it with us.
“Thank you, my friend.” Eric nods at the warlock king. “We are blessed with your continued friendship despite the death of our son.”
“What do I keep saying? Marcus and Alina were family, and Lila literally is, which means so are you.” Cronus slaps Eric on the back. “Now, shall we finish organizing this party? They will be here soon.”
They walk toward the replicators to start organizing food.
I’m not sure what to do now. Maybe I should go find Echo, but if he’s down in the Aquilian pool, I don’t really relish getting that close to water voluntarily.
I wouldn’t even shower if Echo didn’t make me, but the silly omega does like a good bubble bath.
I look around at a loss, but the king stops and looks over his shoulder. “Are you coming, cat? I have a few name suggestions for your cubs that I want to share with you.” Silac and Eric laugh as I blanch.
“Ah, yup, sure, I would be happy to hear your input,” I call back and follow them to the other end of the room where Eric starts programming the replicators.
There’s a long bank of them to accommodate all of the circus crew and staff, but all of them seem to be in sync at the moment because as one, they produce bottles of sparkling wine from all over the galaxy.
Cronus picks one up and waves his hand, and four glasses instantly appear in front of them.
Silac raises an eyebrow, and he shrugs. “We must taste test it. Only the best for our family. If I get the kitty cat drunk, he may be more inclined to name one of his strong, virile cubs after me.”
I stare at the crazy warlock in shock. It’s no wonder Xavier is the way he is when he’s been brought up with this chaotic person, but he seems to be all about family, and that’s all that matters to me.
“I’ll make you a deal. If you can get the snake man free for my mate to pursue and give my omega a glamour charm so he can go shopping on Earth with our mate, then I will hear your name suggestions,” I bargain.
He slaps his empty hand against his leg and shouts, “Ha! You have yourself a deal. Let’s toast to that.”
I watch on in amusement as he hands out the glasses of sparkling liquid, and we all take a drink. Being in this family is never going to be dull, that’s for sure.
