A Love Like the Addams #2

“It did, and you weren’t joking about the hairs looking more real. You did great, baby girl. Here you finish up, and I’ll go make sure all the snacks are out and ready.”

Allie was set on going all out for this little party. All the snacks had themes. Even the drinks. It was cute, though, and honestly, this was the most excited I had been over a holiday in a very, very long time.

“Okay, what do you think?” Allie’s voice rang down the hall, her heels clacking against the floor as she came toward me.

Nothing could have prepared me for how she looked.

Her long black dress hugged her every curve till it billowed out around her feet like a pool of darkness, and the sleeves ran all the way down her arms and covered the tops of her hands as well.

Her makeup was darker than usual, with more black and gray on her eyes, and then that damn red lipstick was back.

I couldn’t help but stare and drink her in.

In the heels she had on, she was a good three, maybe four inches taller than me, and all I could think of was how I wanted her to wear just them and that lipstick.

“You look amazing. Beyond amazing, I don’t even have the right words, beautiful.” I walked up to her, skimming my fingers along her arm. I grabbed her hand and lifted it to my lips, kissing all the way up, causing her to go into a fit of giggles. “The love of my life.”

“You’re really playing into the part, aren’t you?”

“Well, if we’re to be Gomez and Morticia, then we’re doing it right.” I took her hand and carefully spun her out before dipping her back. Her laugh rang out as I gently lifted her back up.

“I’m so glad you go along with all my crazy ideas. It makes life so much more fun.” I pulled her into me, settling my hands on her hips as I looked up into those stunning hazel eyes of hers that still took my breath away.

“I wouldn’t have it any other way. You make life fun. You make it worth living.” I leaned up to kiss her when the door swung open, and Emma walked in.

“Knock knock! Your favorite child is here!” Pulling away from Allie, I moved over by her side and interlocked our fingers. “Holy shit, you guys look hot.” Emma fanned herself dramatically as she took in our costumes. She also wasn’t wrong, though. We did look hot as hell.

“Girl, look at you! I love this whole masked slasher vibe. I knew it would be good. The light-up stitch mask really pulled it together.” The girls were excitedly talking about each other and the night when Carson texted me that he and Jacob were pulling up now.

Walking out into the cold October evening, I leaned against the porch to make sure they found the house with no issues.

Families were walking up and down the street with their kids in tow, or some following behind them to give them some space.

You could hear the laughter from families, either joking amongst each other or laughing when one of them got scared.

The temp dropped, and a breeze blew through, making the night a little chillier than it had been an hour earlier.

Carson and Jacob pulled up on their bikes and parked behind Emma’s car.

They both decided a few years ago they wanted to learn to ride and tried their hardest to convince me to get one, but I never gave in.

They were sleek and cool as hell, don’t get me wrong, but I was too anxious to try.

It was the other people on the road that worried me.

Both men hopped off and headed up the walkway.

“Glad y'all could make it. Hope you’re hungry too. Allie went crazy with snack options.”

“I'm a starving man, and nice costume.” Jacob and Carson gave me the standard bro hug in greeting. I turned and led them inside and found a place for them to store their helmets and riding gear safely.

“Boys! I’m so glad you made it! Oh my god, your costumes are perfect. Those leave nothing to the imagination either.” Allie was trying her best not to laugh at the costumes.

“Wait, hold on, let me give you the full picture!” Jacob turned around to face away from everyone, pulling a mask over his face.

Once it was situated, he did a backflip and landed into the iconic Spider-Man crouch.

I didn’t even know he could do a backflip if I was being honest, but I was very impressed.

“It’s perfect, Jacob!” Allie was clapping and bouncing up and down with a giant grin lighting up her face. Emma was also laughing and telling Jacob how much she loved his costume and how he had “Major Peter Parker energy.”

“Yeah, that flip was impressive, man. You really do give off Peter Parker vibes too.” I clapped him on the shoulder. While we were all talking, a knock sounded at the door.

“Oh, that’s Rachel!” Allie went over to let her in, and the rest of us hung around the bar talking.

“So, Carson, what exactly are you supposed to be anyway?” Emma was leaning against the counter with her mask sitting beside her. By the glint in her eyes, I think she knew exactly who Carson was, but she wanted to get under his skin. Again.

“You really can’t tell?” he asked her indecorously. Either Carson didn’t realize she was baiting him, or he liked to get under her skin just as much.

“Hmm, no, I can’t. Was it something last-minute? It’s okay, your secret is safe with me.” She patted his arm and gave him a little pout.

“Should we do anything?” Jacob leaned in to ask.

“Nah, let’s see how this plays out for now,” I said, still keeping an eye on them. Carson took his aviators that were previously tucked into his shirt and slid them on.

“What about now? Talk to me, Goose.” He gave a small smirk as he peeked over the tops of his glasses.

Emma tapped her finger on her lips, taking him in from head to toe.

“I guess now I can see that you were going for Maverick. The jeans seem a little tight though don’t they?

” He let out a grunt and flung his hands out, which caused her to laugh.

She grabbed her mask and walked over to Allie, who was by the door talking to Rachel.

To his credit, the costume was good. He had on jeans, boots, a white shirt, and an old Air Force flight jacket with patches and a name tag too.

“Oh shit, who’s that?” Jacob nudged my arm and tilted his head toward the door.
