Chapter 15 #2
Kevin was careful not to disturb his sleeping princess as he moved her from their bed to the portable crib that had humbled him earlier when he tried to set it up without the directions.
Chelsea had come to his rescue once again.
As he gently placed the baby on the crib mattress and removed his hands, she never stirred.
She was a wonderful sleeper in addition to her many other attributes.
He got back in bed and reached for his wife. “Do we want another girl or a boy?”
“We’ll be happy with whatever we get.”
As he kissed her, he rolled her under him and settled between her legs, immediately ready for baby-making activities. “Yes, we certainly will.”
“Can I get you anything else?” Tiffany asked from the doorway of the guest room.
McKenzie was on the bed in pajamas Tiffany had loaned her, breastfeeding her little boy. “I don’t think so but thank you so much for everything. I don’t know what we would’ve done if your husband hadn’t found us and brought us to your lovely home.”
“We’re very happy to have you.”
“I was so scared out there with no info about what was happening.”
“That must’ve been terrifying.”
“It was.”
“Is there anyone you need to notify that you’re safe? You’re more than welcome to use my phone.”
“No, there’s no one.”
Tiffany wanted to ask how that was possible, but she kept the thought to herself. Whatever was going on would only be made worse by probing questions from strangers. “I showed you where our room is. Please come get me if you need anything during the night.”
“You’re so kind. Thank you again.”
“Our pleasure. I’ll see you in the morning, if not before.”
“Sleep well.”
“You, too.”
Tiffany checked on her sleeping girls, recovered Addie, and then joined Blaine in their room, where he was already in bed. After he’d worked thirty-six hours straight, she was glad he was finally getting some rest.
“Everything all right?” he asked.
“Yep. They’re settled into the guest room.”
“Thank you for having them. I didn’t know where else to bring them.”
“Of course they’re welcome here. I asked if there was anyone she wanted to call to tell them they were safe, and she said there was no one. How does she have no one?”
“I don’t know, but we’ve done what we can for them tonight, so come to bed and snuggle with your husband.”
“My husband needs sleep more than snuggling.”
“There’s nothing your husband needs more than snuggling.”
After she brushed her teeth, she got into bed with him and gave him what he said he needed most.
“Now, that’s what I’m talking about,” he said when he was wrapped up in her, breathing her in the way he always did, as if she was his only source of oxygen.
Being loved by him was the best thing to ever happen to her, right up there with her two beautiful girls and the baby on the way.
Everything about this pregnancy felt different from her first two, so she thought she might be expecting a son this time.
Either way, she’d be delighted, and so would Blaine. He loved being a girl dad.
Blaine’s hands never stopped moving, caressing her and making her shiver with the desire he aroused in her so easily.
When she was married to Jim, she’d often made herself go through the motions in bed because she thought that was what a wife should do.
Blaine had shown her something else entirely, and she loved him madly.
“What’re you thinking?” he asked, his voice gruff and sexy.
“I’m thinking about you and how much I love you.”
He gave her breast a light squeeze that drew a shiver of pleasure from her. “That’s how I want you thinking. Not worrying like you were earlier.”
“I don’t really worry. I’m not sure where those insecurities come from.”
“I know where they come from, but he’s ancient history, and I’m right here and not going anywhere ever.”
“Keep reminding me of that, okay?”
“Any time you need to hear it.”
She turned to him and placed her hand on his face. “I was thinking earlier about the first time I ever saw you at the clinic and how I was immediately interested, even though I was still married and had no business being interested in anyone.”
“Same, babe. I took one look and was completely sunk in the best possible way.”
“Remember that time on Luke and Syd’s deck?”
“I remember everything, especially the longing I felt for you while I was waiting for you to be free of him.”
“I also had no business jumping right into something with you, but I couldn’t resist you. And I still can’t.”
“I thought I’d go mad watching you prance around outside the store in the sexiest lingerie I’d ever seen, with every other guy on the island panting over the woman I already thought of as mine.” He squeezed her ass and pressed his erection against her belly. “You made me into a raving lunatic.”
Tiffany laughed at the way he practically growled as he said that.
“You did, and you enjoyed torturing me.”
“It was kind of fun.”
He gave her a light tap on the ass that made her laugh.
“You need to sleep, Blaine.”
“I need you more than I need sleep.”
“That’s not true.”
“It’s very true.”
She used her fingertips to close his eyes. “Sleep now. We’ll have lots of time after the storm passes for other stuff.”
“Don’t wanna sleep,” he said, but he kept his eyes closed.
She kissed him. “Shhhhh.”
He whimpered, but still, his eyes remained closed.
Five minutes later, his breathing had shifted into sleep.
Tiffany smiled as she watched him, as captivated by him as she’d been the first time she ever saw him.
