Chapter 35
An interview with Jenny and Alex…
I have a confession to make. Your story is my favorite of the Gansett Island Series.
Alex: No way! Why is ours your favorite?
Because you were both at such a tender time in your lives when you found each other, and to work things out in that environment took a lot of guts from both of you.
Alex: That was a difficult time, for sure. Things with my mom had gotten so bad. I’ll never forget how Jenny stepped in to help, no questions asked, doing whatever was needed. It made such a difference to me—and to my family.
Jenny: I have so much admiration for what Paul and Alex did for Marion for so long on their own. She was truly lucky to have such wonderful sons.
Alex: We were lucky to have her—and our dad.
Jenny, Alex was your first relationship after losing Toby. What made him different from other guys you met in the years after Toby died?
Jenny: That’s one of those things that’s not easily explainable. But I think he was the right guy at the right time, when I’d decided I was ready for a new relationship. Plus, the connection was instantaneous.
Alex: She was hot for me.
Jenny: Do you want me to throw a tomato at your head?
Alex: (laughing) Behave, honey. People are looking.
Have you ever thrown a tomato at him again?
Jenny: Once or twice, but he always deserved it.
Alex: That’s true. I drive her crazy.
Jenny: It’s a good thing I love him so much.
Alex: I say that every day.
Tell us about your kids.
Jenny: George is twelve already, which we cannot believe. He loves going to work with Dad, Uncle Paul and his cousin Ethan.
Alex: The next generation of Martinez Lawn & Garden is in training. They love it like we do, which is great.
Jenny: Our Henry is eight, and we also have a daughter named Cora, who’s six.
That’s so exciting. Three kids!
Alex: I know. Cora was a big surprise, but she completed us.
Jenny: Alex is super cute with her. She’s got him firmly wrapped around her little finger.
Alex: I’m in big trouble with that young lady.
Congratulations on your family and your happy life!
