Chapter 19 Zaxon
You want to schedule a distraction?
I was right about the two weeks being completely unbearable without Bea. Okay maybe not unbearable but definitely lonelier, my bed cold and empty without her.
I tried staying at her place one night, but her bed was too small for us both to sleep comfortably. I managed to convince her to stay with me on our days off, which were absolute heaven.
Now the day has finally come, Bea’s first day as Coconut Cove’s quality control agent. Since she’s not a code enforcer anymore they decided to come up with a title that was less threatening. Quality Control Agent seemed appropriate for what she’ll be doing.
I bought a small bouquet of flowers as a good luck on your first day of work present. She has a small office near the admin offices where she can put them to remind her of me as she works. Not that I don’t plan on stopping by every available minute I have.
Standing in the employee parking lot I spot her silver sedan pulling in and parking. I wave when she spots me through her window. She looks beautiful today, a little more professionally dressed than when she was inspecting the resort, but I managed to convince her a suit was not required.
Bea steps out of her car, her conservative ocean blue knee length dress brushing against her thighs as her long legs stretch to stand. There’s a basic black messenger bag slung over her shoulder and her macrame seashell purse on her elbow.
Something else new is her relaxed hair style.
Almost every day I’ve known her she’s worn her hair in a sleek bun on top of her head.
Today she’s pulled back only half of her hair and secured it with a clip that resembles Antoinette’s colorful earrings, in the shape of a palm tree with matching coconuts.
I want to reach out and thread my fingers through the silky chestnut strands resting softly over her shoulders. Maybe at lunch when I surprise her with the picnic I made for her. To be eaten at a table nowhere near the sand of course.
“Good morning fellow coworker.”
“Good morning, Starfish.”
When Bea accepted the job, our relationship was a concern for her. Us being coworkers now. Thankfully Coconut Cove has no anti-fraternization policy, allowing its employees to date one another as long as they inform HR. I made sure Antoinette and HR were thoroughly informed of our relationship.
I hold out the bouquet of roses, daisies, poppies, snap dragons and whatever else the florist added. She smothers a smile and tries to scowl at me. It doesn’t work.
“What are these for?”
“As a welcome to the team, good luck on your first day, I think you look beautiful and wanted to get you something, gift.”
I widen my smile, and she takes the flowers, sticking her nose directly into them and inhaling deep.
“Thank you Zax, they’re beautiful.”
“And they’ll look amazing on your new desk in your new office,” I add.
“Yes, they will.”
Bea holds her arm out for me to take. I let her settle her hand in the crook of my elbow, a familiar position for her now, and turn to guide us towards the main building where the admin offices are located.
As we walk, we smile and wave at other staff members who are either arriving for their shift or heading home after the night shift.
Bea seems surprisingly animated this morning.
Not ignoring passerby’s or frowning like she had when I first met her.
Maybe all that grumpiness was a byproduct of her job.
I sure as hell know I’ve been persistent in my task of fucking the grumpy right out of her.
Our sex might be incredible, but I can’t claim all the credit.
My tail curls around Bea’s calf as we walk, caressing her skin in a comforting way it’s taken to doing on its own lately. Bea’s become so familiar with the gesture it doesn’t even alter her stride.
A warm fuzziness simmers in my chest at her comfort around me. We’ve only been dating for three weeks and already it feels like we’ve been together for years.
We enter the main building and head for her office. It’s a small space with a window that looks out at the parking lot, but Bea beams when we enter. Her obvious excitement almost palpable.
Her desk is white, the top polished to a shine, there’s a monitor on the corner and simple mouse and keyboard nearby.
There isn’t a vase for her flowers, so she lays them on the corner opposite the computer.
I spot a printer on a narrow table behind her desk and circle to steal a piece of paper from the tray.
Quickly folding the paper into a simple vase, I hold the folded paper in my hand and change it into amethyst. I really should use this ability more often. Perhaps I’ll make a few decorations for Bea’s office.
Setting down the crystal vase I slip the bouquet into it and arrange it on her desk where she’ll be able to see it all day.
“It’s beautiful Zax. You didn’t have to make me a vase I’m sure I could have found one.” Bea rests a small hand on my chest, and I step closer to her touch.
“Nonsense. I like making you things. As a matter of fact, I think I’ll make more to match.”
She smiles up at me, and with her hand not on my chest, she reaches into her purse and pulls out the amethyst starfish origami I had made her. She places it on the desk next to her new vase, the two are a perfect pair.
“At least they match,” she says, adjusting the starfish just right on her desk.
“I’ll make you a thousand starfish for your office if you wish it.”
“I most certainly do not. I don’t need that many opportunities to break something. Besides if I had a thousand of them this one would lose its significance.”
“Well then how about a pen holder? Or a water glass? At least let me make you a paperweight or sun catcher.”
Bea places a kiss on the bottom of my chin, patting me on the chest placatingly.
“I wouldn’t mind a sun catcher and water glass.”
I beam down at her, my chest puffing out at the opportunity to make something for my female.
“But nothing more.” She points a furtive finger at me, putting on a stern face. Still not grumpy though. “But right now I need to get to work, and so do you. So…get out.”
She steps out of my hold and points at the door, her cute little nose turned up as her glasses slip down it. Reaching up I push the gold frames back up to their proper place and then kiss the tip of her nose, before doing as she commands.
“Fine I’ll leave. But this isn’t the last you’re going to see of me today. I’ll be back for lunch so don’t make any plans.”
“Me? Make plans? Never,” she responds sarcastically.
She probably had made some sort of lunch plan, whether to get food at a restaurant in the resort or she has a premade sack lunch in her bag. She’s going to learn to not make plans for her breaks, not while I’m around.
“I’ll be back at eleven thirty, so be ready and be hungry,” I tell her.
“Fine, but only if you leave. Now. I don’t need your distraction on my first day.”
“What? Me, distracting? Never.”
She shouldn’t have said anything because now I’m going to draw this out as long as I can and do my very best to distract her.
Whipping around I stalk towards her, backing her up until her butt bumps into the edge of her desk. I loom over her and trap her in with my arms and wings, locking her against her desk, my claws tapping on the polished surface.
I run my nose up her neck and nip at the sensitive skin behind her ear, right in the spot I know drives her wild. Her breath hitches and her chest presses against mine, the softness of her breasts enticing me to do more.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to distract you, Starfish? I’m very good at it.”
I press my hips to hers so she can feel how easily she distracts me.
My cock already hardening against my zipper.
I’m going to have to adjust that before I leave, because leaving her office with a tent in my pants isn’t very professional.
HR may not have an issue with us dating but they do with public fornication.
“Maybe we could schedule something for after work? Say five thirty?” she suggests breathily, her eyes hooding and those slim fingers of hers spreading out over my bare chest.
“You want to schedule a distraction? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose?” I chuckle.
“No. It allows for uninterrupted distraction.”
I growl and my cock throbs against her stomach. I like being uninterrupted, because I have a list as long as my tail of things I would love to distract her with.
Bea presses a hot kiss to my chest, and I almost forget who’s supposed to be distracting who. I’m about to press her further when a throat clears behind me, coming from Bea’s open office door.
“Am I interrupting something?” Antoinette asks.
Fuck. I should have closed the door and locked it. Now I really have to stop distracting Bea.
I clear my throat and stand, not turning yet, and adjust my raging erection in my pants into something less obvious.
“No, not interrupting just wishing my girlfriend good luck on her first day,” I say as calmly as possible, finally turning to face Antoinette and her tiny wrath.
She’s not scowling at me though, but smiling wide, a glimmer of appreciation and approval in her eyes. Not what I expected but I’ll take it. Whatever gets me out of another of Antoinette’s famous scoldings.
“As sweet as that is, don’t you have work to do as well?”
And that’s my cue to leave before I get us both fired. Leaning down I press a quick kiss to Bea’s cheek, which is still flushed from my distraction.
“I’ll see you at lunch Starfish.”
Bea nods and I smile at Antoinette as I pass her, leaving Bea to enjoy her first day at work.
I go about my day, patrolling the resort. Nothing of note happens other than a few sunburns that require direction to first aid.
I spot Torgan by one of the saltwater pools, talking to Serena and another male I’ve never met before. He looks like a mere and friendly with Serena. Foreseeing the possible death of a merman in the near future for speaking to an orc’s female, I make my way towards them, just in case.
When I’m within earshot I hear something I wasn’t expecting, laughter. All three are smiling at each other and laughing over something. I frown, an expression that feels foreign on my face and instantly shake it away as I approach.
“Zax, there you are. Did Bea get settled alright this morning?” Torgan greets me with a slap on my shoulder and a wide smile.
“Yeah, she’s doing great. I’m meeting her for lunch soon.”
“Wonderful.”
Torgan must see me eyeing the male still standing next to Serena and my obvious interest in him.
He is indeed a merman, his finned ears and smooth scales glimmering in the sunlight.
They shift between shades of turquoise and teal, looking like shimmering waves on the ocean.
He’s a striking male to be sure. So why is Torgan so relaxed?
“Oh, Zax this is Cal, Serena’s brother. Cal this is Zaxon, head security officer here at the resort.”
“It’s nice to meet you.” Cal extends his hand to me and now I realize why Torgan is so at ease around him, he’s not a threat or competition.
I accept his hand, his snakelike scales soft under my rough stoney hands. His smile is light and easy, and I smile back.
“Nice to meet you too. Are you just visiting?”
Cal’s expression shifts to something chagrined, and he eyes his sister. Serena sighs and shrugs.
“Sort of. Maybe. I don’t know yet.”
“He’s hoping to convince me to get him an interview with Antoinette to get him a job here,” Serena supplies. “I told him I can’t promise anything, and he has to prove himself reliable first.”
“I’m reliable,” Cal scoffs, fake offended at his sister’s statement.
Serena just gives her brother a look of indignation, one that I expect he’s used to. You can still tell she loves her brother but isn’t completely convinced.
“We’ll see.” Is all she says when he gives her some sort of pleading innocent look.
“They’ve been like this all morning,” Torgan interjects, a good-natured grin on his face.
I’m just glad I won’t have to fire my best friend for attacking a guest today.
“What kind of job were you hoping to get Cal?” I ask, hoping it isn’t a sensitive subject.
“Anywhere really, but something around water would be great. I used to be a lifeguard during summers in high school.” He shrugs. “I’m a pretty good swimmer,” he jokes.
A mere would be a great lifeguard, he’s not wrong there. The four of us walk the area around the pools, Cal admiring them longingly. I linger with the group to fill time until it’s time for me to leave to find my starfish for her special lunch surprise.
