Chapter 20

GHOST

Daisy.

It’s always about fucking Daisy.

“She needs to be handled,” Prez murmurs, and Skull and Bones both nod.

I turn to Skull and Bones and study them closely. “I’m fine with that, but are you? At the end of the day, she’s still Natalia’s mother.”

Daisy came back and tried to hurt Isla, running her over with her car, all because she’s jealous that Isla is raising her daughter. The daughter that Daisy left at the hospital and never looked back.

The twins share a look and then nod again in sync.

“Isla is Natalia’s mother. Daisy left her, and she’s clearly lost her damn mind,” Skull adds, clenching his fists.

“And what will you tell Natalia when she’s older?” I ask.

“That her mother died, and Isla raised her from birth,” Bones replies, crossing his arms over his chest.

I know this can’t be an easy choice for them, but I think they are making the best one.

Selfishly, the fact that Xanthe will never have to see Daisy again is also a bonus. I won’t feel guilty ending her life.

No one will ever hurt my woman. Not even her feelings. We can put the whole thing behind us now, and that thought makes me happy.

“I’ll handle it. You go be with your woman and daughter,” I say to them.

“We owe you,” Skull says, raking a hand through his hair.

“No, this one is on me.”

Two weeks later, it’s finally time to claim Xanthe. We’ve invited everyone to the clubhouse for a party, and all my brothers and their old ladies know why, but Xanthe doesn’t. I want to surprise her with her property cut tonight.

And then I want to fuck her in it afterward.

“Did you make the chocolate cupcakes she likes?” I ask Lu, who nods in amusement.

“We got everything she likes, Ghost. And Haze is singing.”

“Thank you,” I say to her, and she nods.

“You’re welcome. I’m so happy for her. She’s always been one of us, but now it’s going to be official.” She grins.

Bones walks over to me with an amused expression on his face. “You sure you’re ready for one pussy for the rest of your life?”

My eyes narrow to slits. “More than ready, but if you mention her pussy again, you’ll be the next person buried six feet under.”

“Still no sense of humor,” he mutters, his blue eyes twinkling. “I still don’t know how you got her.”

Lu laughs, covering her mouth with her hands. “He caught Xanthe’s attention right away, I know that much. I thought she’d go for Danger, Blade, or Scorp. But no, straight to Ghost like a moth to a flame.”

“Like a knife to skin,” Bones adds, smirking.

“Why the fuck would she want Danger? Did she say something?” I ask, frowning. I mean, Blade is a nerdy fuck, so that’s why she’d guess him. Scorp is a doctor, so again, another educated nerdy fuck.

But what does Danger have?

My eyes snap to where the bastard himself is playing pool with Suit.

“Ah, shit,” Lu mutters, realizing that I’m about to go and beat the shit out of Danger. “No, she didn’t say anything. Danger was the one who took us to the clubhouse, and…” She trails off, clearing her throat. “He’s hot. So I thought he would be her type.”

“Did it suddenly get colder in here?” Bones asks, lip twitching.

“The entire room probably felt a chill. I know I did,” Lu mutters, standing in front of me. I know she’s trying to block my view of Danger, but she’s not that tall, and I can still see him. “He didn’t do anything wrong.”

Lowering my tone, I ask, “I know you’d probably prefer her with someone else, but I love her, and I’m never giving her up for anything. She’s mine.”

“I know,” Lu says, offering me a sweet smile. “Anyone with eyes can see you are meant for each other, Ghost.”

I nod, swallowing hard.

I’ve never truly felt good enough before. My father made sure of that, and I know I’m still not good enough for Xanthe.

No man is.

But I’m trying to be.

I even learned how to cook her breakfast, because, usually, I’ll eat what’s in the clubhouse or skip meals if I have to. I eat to survive, not because there’s any enjoyment in it for me. However, after seeing how much Xanthe enjoys food, I’ve been watching videos on how to cook for her.

I want to take care of her and love her in all the ways she needs, even if it’s unknown to me—especially if it’s unknown to me.

“Okay, I’m going to go and pick her up,” I say, giving the bar a final scan to make sure everything is ready. I look over to Rune and Curse, who are already doing shots. “Don’t get too fucked up while I’m gone.”

Rune grins and lifts the shot in the air.

When I’m stepping outside, Janet, one of the new club girls, licks her lips at me. “Hey, Ghost. You need anything?”

I ignore her and walk to my bike.

The only thing I need I’m about to get.
