Chapter 29
XANTHE
I don’t know what’s going on, but Henry leaves me alone in the room with another man. He has dark eyes and equally dark hair, and is wearing a cut that reads ‘Isle of Insanity MC’ on the back.
“Isn’t he trading me for the money?” I ask, my brow furrowing. “Why is he leaving me here?”
“Plan’s changed.” He smirks. “He told us that if we help him out, we get to keep you as our reward.”
My mouth opens, then closes. “Keep me?”
“Yeah, we’re just starting our chapter up again, and we need some new club girls. We had Daisy, but then you fuckers killed her. So now you owe us a woman.” He shrugs, like we’re talking about something casual like the weather.
“Who killed Daisy?” I croak as he voices a thought I’ve had in my head but had been trying to avoid.
The man’s eyes widen, and then he throws his head back and laughs. “You don’t know? They killed Daisy for hurting Isla,” he pauses, and then adds, “I mean, no one has found her body, but she hasn’t been heard from. She’s missing. Presumed dead.”
“That doesn’t mean the Serpents did it,” I huff.
He rolls his eyes and grunts. “How do they get all these sweet, hot, na?ve bitches? Well, soon you’ll be ours. We’ll be good to you, I promise.”
“I highly doubt that.” I sigh, my eyes going to the window when I see a shadow cross it.
Was that one of the men?
I don’t look in that direction again and keep making small talk with ‘Shame,’ which the guy tells me is his road name.
Perfect name for him, really.
Ten minutes later, and it all happens too fast.
Haze and Suit storm into my room, shooting Shame in the head. Suit comes over and gives me a quick once-over. “You’re okay?”
I nod and lift my cuffed hand. Suit pulls out a little tool from his pocket, breaks open the lock, then lifts me into his arms.
“Ghost?”
“Meeting with his father. We thought he might try to renege on the deal, so we traced his phone.”
“Let’s get her out of here,” Haze calls out, protecting Suit’s back as we leave what I can now see is an old hospital.
I’m then placed in a truck and driven the hell out of there.
“Are we going to get Ghost?” I ask, rubbing my wrist.
“No, we are getting you back to the clubhouse,” Haze explains, stepping on the gas. “Ghost will kill us if we don’t get you home safe.”
“Are they going to be safe?”
“They’ll be fine,” Suit promises, sending a text message. “We’ll send all the extra men to where they are. He has heaps of backup.”
“Okay,” I reply, but I’m still worried.
All I want is to be back in Ghost’s arms.
