Chapter 5 Brynnlee

Brynnlee
The warm afterglow of our lovemaking makes me sigh in contentment, “What took us so long to finally do this?” I roll onto my side and look into his dark blue eyes.
“After tonight, I’m beginning to wonder that myself.
” He pulls me tighter against his chest. “I have a confession to make, my house has been ready to move into for over two weeks. But I wasn’t ready to give you up as my roommate.
” His confession shouldn’t make me as happy as it does, but the thought of him wanting to spend more time with me warms my heart and makes me decide to make a confession of my own.
“If we’re confessing things, Rue helped me with how to seduce you.”
Was it really only a few hours ago that Rue talked me into this wild scheme?
I definitely owe her big time for pushing me out of my comfort zone and making me fight for what I wanted instead of waiting for something that might never have happened if I hadn’t made the first move.
“Rhett signed me up for the Christmas dating tree, but I promise that first thing in the morning, when I drop you off at the bakery, I’ll find my name on the tree and take it down.
” I open my mouth to make another confession, but he interrupts me.
“If it’s too late and someone has already taken my name off the tree, I’ll explain it was all a mistake. ”
With a smile, I reach over his body and open my nightstand drawer.
“I have another confession to make, I saw your name on the tree and I took it.” I hand him the crinkled paper.
“At the time, my only thought was that if I couldn’t have you, no one else could have you.
That and I couldn’t stand the thought of you bringing a woman back to the apartment and having sex with her while I was in the other room. ”
He tips my head so my eyes meet his, “Is that what you think of me, that I would bring someone I barely knew into your home and have sex with her, right under your nose?”
When he says it like that, I feel foolish, “No, you’re not that kind of guy. You’re sweet and kind. You would never hurt my feelings like that, whether intentionally or unintentionally.”
“Damn straight I wouldn’t. My momma raised me better than that. Besides, I’ve been head over heels in love with you since the first day I saw you at the bakery when Rhett first introduced us. I was just too stubborn to act on those feelings.”
“I guess it’s a good thing you had that small electrical fire in your cabin, or we would have never been roommates, and this might never have happened.”
“About that electrical fire, I have one more confession.” He runs a hand through his hair. “I kind of set that myself, hoping Charlotte would offer me a place to stay until my main house was ready.”
“No, you didn’t.” I scoot into a sitting position and look down at him. “You actually set your cabin on fire for a chance to live with me?”
“I’d do it again in a heartbeat.” He wraps his arms around my body, pulling me close for a kiss. “I love you, Brynnlee. I’d do anything for you, even set the world on fire if it meant you loved me back.”
“Well, it’s a good thing you don’t have to do that, because I love you too, Rex.” Sadness rolls over me as I realize that since his house is ready for him to move into, we’ll no longer be roommates.
“What’s wrong?” He must have noticed my shift in mood to ask me that question.
“I was just thinking if your house is ready, you’ll be moving out soon.”
“I will, but only after you help me pick out the furniture. Since you’re already my roommate and hopefully much more soon, I want you to help me choose the furniture.”
“Are you sure about that, Rex?” I hold my breath, praying it's true and not a dream.
“I’ve never been surer of anything in my life.” He places a soft kiss on my lips as I melt into his arms.
“Okay, I’ll do it, but on one condition.”
“Anything you want, Brynnlee, it’s yours.” His words fill my heart with love and comfort in the knowledge that we’ve finally given in to our feelings for each other.
“A sex swing. I want a sex swing in our bedroom.”
“Wow, one night of sex and you’ve turned into a little sex freak.”
“Only with you, cowboy, only with you.”
