Chapter 45
The gray sky parted, a patch of sun slipping through the clouds before disappearing in a haze of red. A tendril of light fell upon a head of thick raven hair like a weight, a slipping halo.
The girl stood outside The House looking up, her gaze casting solemnly across the noble pillars.
Then the clouds shifted, and the shadow of The House was like a blanket, a heavy cloak.
Sloane got out of the car and walked toward The House quickly, very quickly, her knuckles white around the newly purchased stun gun.
She was in a hurry. It would be time for dinner soon.
