Chapter Fourteen
“You have everything you want,” Razor said.
Doc glanced over toward Razor after coming out of the church.
It was time to give the priest another hefty donation so he’d be willing to marry him and Maeve in the same church as her parents.
This was the same thing he had to do for Razor and Eden.
The priest required extra payment in order to do anything.
Everyone had a price. He didn’t mind paying for Maeve to live out her dream.
“I nearly have everything I want.”
This was the first month where Maeve’s menstrual cycle was in fact late. He wanted to take a test to see if they were indeed pregnant, while Maeve wanted to wait.
“What’s missing?” Razor asked.
“I want more kids with Maeve,” he said, and he wasn’t ashamed to admit he wanted to have a family with her.
“Wow. How are Charlotte and Nancy handling this?”
“They’re good. Charlotte is actually calling her Stepmommy at the moment.”
Razor laughed. “Yeah, she referred to me as her uncle.”
Doc ran a hand down his face. “I’m worried about her.”
“Maeve?” Razor asked.
“No, Charlotte. I think she’s seeing someone.”
“What makes you think that?”
“I don’t know. Dads have an intuition for these things, and she’s far more secretive than she’s ever been.” Doc shrugged. Charlotte had always been a good kid. Even when he and Nancy were not exactly performing at their best.
“Well, she’s your kid, so if anyone is going to know, it will be you.” Razor sighed. “So what’s the word on Hilary?”
The Bratva problem was no longer a problem. The drugs were out of Rivermont Ridge, and the men responsible were being taken care of. The only loose thread was Hilary, who’d decided to leave town without a trace.
A lot of things had fallen into place just lately. Jamie and June Carmichael were settled back into their home, and the club’s lawyer said there was a great deal of evidence against Wilson, that she would be taking at least half of his income for the remainder of June’s childhood.
Women had come out of the woodwork throughout the Carmichael marriage.
While Jamie worked multiple jobs for Wilson to have the education he so demanded, he was also screwing everything in sight.
There was also the chance he’d fathered three more kids.
This caused him to lose his job at the law firm in Rivermont Ridge.
The firm wanted to have reliable family men who families wanted to work with.
Not cheating scumbags who toss their wives and kids out on the street.
Most of the town had done the dirty work for him.
He kept an eye on the Carmichael house, just in case Wilson wanted to try anything. However, his sources indicated he’d skipped town. If he stopped paying money, then he’d take care of it.
As for him and Sheriff Hayes, they had a new understanding, and neither was willing to cross that line. Boundaries were set for a reason.
He made his way toward his bike, and just as he was about to turn the ignition over and fire up the engine, his cell phone rang.
Pulling it out of his back pocket, expecting to see Maeve’s number, he saw Sheriff Hayes’s instead.
They had worked out their differences but that didn’t mean they were on speaking terms.
Razor had already turned the engine on for his bike.
Doc was tempted to ignore it, but something in his gut twisted.
“Who is it?”
“Sheriff Hayes,” Doc said, pressing the “accept” button on his cell phone and putting it to his ear. “Why are you calling me?”
“We’ve got a situation.”
He rolled his eyes.
“This time, it involves your woman, the salon, and that girl Hilary you’ve been chasing.”
This made Doc tense up. There had been no sighting of Hilary in town. He looked toward Razor. The salon didn’t just have Maeve, it also had Eden.
“Talk to me,” Doc said, putting the call on “speaker.”
“Shots have been fired within the salon. This was thirty minutes ago. We don’t have a rough number as the blinds on the shop window have been shut. We do have an eyewitness account that saw Hilary enter the shop, and she had two guns. We’re not sure of any casualties at this time.”
Razor was already taking off, and Doc hung up and turned his ignition over. There was no way Maeve could be taken from him. She was perfect. He loved her more than anything, and he felt that moment to the way he felt the same day with Jake. There was a sense of helplessness.
He should have known Hilary would come back. Had she been stalking the two Summers women? He was aware that after Eden found out Mac was cheating on her with Hilary, she cut off ties, but it was Maeve who dragged her out of the house by her hair.
Why did Hilary pick the fucking salon to do her dirty work? Was it because she knew that was where Maeve and Eden were going to be? Was she going to attempt to make some kind of deal?
His mind was not focused but running riot in his head, as he tried to think of all the different possibilities that could play out. They could be toy guns. The eyewitness might not have a single clue as to what she or he saw.
This was driving him crazy, but the distance from the church to the salon felt like a million miles away. Time seemed to slow down, and he needed it to catch the fuck up.
This was too much for him. He felt panicked and tried not to freak out.
Arriving in town, he was there moments after Razor.
Sheriff Hayes, along with several of his men, were already on scene.
He was surprised to see a couple of his men.
He didn’t expect to see Savage, Grim, or Nitro standing in the street.
How did they even know the salon needed help?
He wasn’t in the mood to answer any questions. All he cared about was his woman.
From the look on Sheriff Hayes’s face, Maeve and Eden were not the only people in there.
“We got reports that suggest Charlotte and Nancy are in there as well.”
This day couldn’t have gone any worse.
****
Shots had been fired, but Hilary was a fucking shit shot.
Maeve was in front of Eden and Charlotte. Both women had been next to her when Hilary entered the salon acting crazy. She wasn’t making any sense. Talking about the Chaos Monsters MC, that they were after her.
Hilary was usually a very pretty woman, but she clearly had been on a lot more than booze and cock.
She was sweating and looked like she hadn’t washed in days.
The dress she wore had a lot of stains, and Maeve hated to admit it, but they looked like crusty semen stains.
Some of her hair was up, but it wasn’t neatly done.
As if she had her hair pulled, as the band holding it up was midway down the length.
This was not the same woman she’d pulled out of her and Eden’s home nearly two years ago.
She hated this fucking woman so much. When Eden and Hilary had been friends, she would have to listen to Hilary constantly put Eden down.
Her weight was always a problem, how she looked, even the way she dressed.
The fact she hadn’t beaten the fucking shit out of this bitch before was a miracle in itself.
Whenever she complained to her sister, Eden always had some kind of excuse, or what she considered a valid enough reason for Hilary to say and do the things she said and freaking did.
It angered her to a point of distraction.
“You’re fucking Doc now, you’ve got to call him,” Hilary said.
She kept looking between her, Nancy, Charlotte, and Eden.
“They would all listen to you. You’ve got to tell them to stop looking for me.
So, I sold some drugs and got paid for it.
Everyone does it, and those drugs are good.
Everyone does drugs. It’s time for them to get in on the action. ” Hilary waved both guns in the air.
“She’s crazy,” Charlotte said, whispering.
“We don’t call the woman waving guns in the air like a crazy woman, crazy,” Maeve said.
Charlotte tried to hide a smile.
“What do we do?” Eden asked. “I don’t want her to shoot me. I want to have this baby and live my life with Razor!” They were talking in whispered tones.
One of them had to deal with Hilary, and there was no way she would put Charlotte or Eden at risk.
She got to her feet and glanced across the room to see Nancy there as well, standing up. They both had the same thought—to keep Hilary’s attention on them. She did not have a death wish, but they needed to keep her occupied so she didn’t fuck up anyone else.
“What’s going on, Hilary?” Maeve asked.
“Fuck you. Call that piece of shit you’re fucking and tell him if he doesn’t bring me a million dollars in cash and an escort out of here, you’re going to fucking die.”
“Honey, you don’t want to do that,” Nancy said.
“Fuck you. You don’t know what I want. You’re all going to fucking die.”
While Hilary had been distracted by Nancy, Maeve was able to move a little closer. All she could think about was keeping Eden and Charlotte safe.
“This is not going to end well for you,” Maeve said. “You need to stop this disaster train and just think.”
“Fuck you!”
“Get away from the windows!”
Maeve didn’t have a lot of time to think as she heard the revving and then seconds later, a large car rushed through.
There were screams, but through the fear, Hilary dropped her guns. The car didn’t hit her. It didn’t hit anyone, but Maeve was shocked to see Savage step out of the car at the same time as Mac.
Hilary got to her feet, picking up one of the guns closest to her, but it was Savage that grabbed Hilary and within seconds had her bound and in handcuffs.
Razor was on the scene, pulling Eden into his arms.
Maeve looked around but then Doc was there, and he cupped her face. “Are you okay?” he asked.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. What happened?”
“Charlotte was texting. She told us what was going on, including the exact layout of where you and Nancy stood.”
Nancy came to stand beside them as did Charlotte.
“Are you okay?” he asked, pulling his daughter in for a hug.
“I’m good,” both women responded at the same time.
“What the fuck were you two thinking?” he asked, turning his attention to herself and then Nancy.
Maeve looked toward Nancy. “Keeping Charlotte and Eden safe,” she said.
He shook his head. “You fucking scared me.”
Nancy let out a smile. “Don’t worry, hotshot, I would have taken a bullet for your woman. It’s the least I owe you.”
Maeve smiled and looked toward Doc.
“I’m going to see if I can help,” Charlotte said. “Love you, Dad.” She moved away as did Nancy.
“What’s going to happen now?” Maeve asked.
“We’re going to repair the new window and fix all the damage to Kristin’s shop.”
“You fucking better. This is bad for business, Doc,” Kristin said.
“I mean about Hilary?” Maeve asked.
“Sheriff Hayes will handle her, and with regard to the rest, you don’t want to know,” Doc said. “She brought drugs into town. She put your life, Charlotte’s, Eden’s, and Nancy’s life at risk. She’ll be taken care of.”
Maeve looked at him, and she wasn’t afraid. He knew what he was doing, and she went onto her tiptoes and kissed him. She loved him for taking care of everything.
“Why were Savage and Mac in the car?” Maeve asked.
“They had started to lose their patience. Razor and I are better shots. We were close to the shop and ready to take her out if she started to shoot.”
He kissed the top her head and she looked toward Charlotte, who was hugging her mother. She then turned her attention to Mac. He was standing with Eden and Razor, checking in with them.
Turning her attention to Savage, he was staring intently at Charlotte. Before she could even wonder what that meant, Doc was pulling her out of the shop. Sheriff Hayes was in control and the two men nodded at each other.
“Where are we going?” Maeve asked.
“To grab coffee and a donut, then I’m taking you home so we can fuck and make this baby.”
