Epilogue
Altan
“I can’t believe it’s taken us this long to do this,” I said, stripping off my shirt.
“But we’re doing it now. That’s the important part.” Hema came out and started to unbutton her pants and kicked off her shoes.
“About time.” Sovann shucked his clothes faster than the rest of us and in seconds, had changed to his wolf. His was the biggest even though I was the alpha. His wolf was pure silver, a rarity among shifters. He padded over to Hema and playfully nipped at her ankle.
“Okay. Okay. I’m coming.” She laughed and shifted next, and everyone stilled. Her wolf was pure platinum, just like her golden hair. Her eyes were a lighter blue now and specks of gold made her look like something from a fantasy movie.
Our golden omega.
It took her two weeks of thinking and planning before she moved into our home but then, spent that entire weekend in her nest. She took things from our rooms to make it complete. Pillows. Hoodies. Blankets. Our scents brought her comfort, and that was what an omega’s nest was about.
Her comfort.
Her safety.
A place where being an omega was the most important part.
“Come here, baby.” I crouched down and called to her wolf. She walked over and turned around, showing me all sides of her. “Look at you, gorgeous. Preening for your alpha. I’ve never seen a more beautiful wolf.”
Orin kneeled beside me and she did the same, showing her mates how lovely she was. Her nose held high. Proud of herself.
She nudged my leg and then Orin’s.
“Okay. I’m on it.” We both shifted and she ran ahead of us. More showing off. Her wolf was fast and gave us a good chase through the woods behind our property. She leapt over the small creek that ran in the woods and then turned and growled.
She wanted to play.
Goddess, how did we ever live without her.
As we ran, the bond between us grew thicker. It was one thing to mate and mark each other as humans, but there was a supernatural element to our wolves bonding as animals. It sealed everything up. Left no cracks of disbelief or doubt.
I wanted to test something.
Omega, can you hear me? I pushed the question through our bond, hoping our pack was one of the special ones who could communicate telepathically. Sovann, Orin, and I had never been able to, but there was a chance that now that we were complete, we could.
Altan? How…We can speak like this?
I stopped in my tracks, my paws skidding in the dirt. It was true. It had to be. Our omega was the most special woman in the world. Of course, her bond with us would trigger other rare abilities.
Only some packs can do it. It’s the sign of a strong bond. Orin spoke next and I yipped out my happiness.
Holy shit. This is crazy. And there was Sovann.
We ran for the rest of the afternoon until the sun began to sink. Sovann had dinner in a slow cooker and it waited for us since we didn’t know how long we would be.
We lay together right off the back porch and rested together.
I turned my head and looked at our omega, practically glowing under the last bit of sunlight. She was worth every lonely night. Every hopeless day.
