14. Fenris

FOURTEEN

As Red-Scarlett lungedat me with deadly precision, I reacted on pure instinct, my muscles coiling with adrenaline-fueled strength. With a fierce growl, I met her attack head-on, deflecting her blows and fighting to keep her at bay.

”Goldie, stay back!” I barked, my voice echoing through the cavern as I tried to shield her from harm. But even as I fought to protect her, I could feel the weight of worry pressing down on me like a suffocating blanket. She was trapped, vulnerable, and I couldn”t afford to lose focus for even a moment.

With a savage snarl, I drove Red-Scarlett back, my movements fueled by a primal need to keep my mate safe. But she was relentless, her attacks coming fast and furious as she sought to break through my defenses.

”Get her out of there!” I shouted to the pirates, my voice raw with urgency. They scrambled to obey, throwing down ropes and shouting encouragement to Goldie as they worked to pull her to safety. But even as they worked, I could feel the tide of battle turning against me. Red-Scarlett was a skilled fighter, her movements fluid and precise as she danced around me, her eyes burning with determination.

I snarled in frustration, my heart pounding with a mix of anger and fear. This wasn”t how it was supposed to go. We were so close to our goal, so close to putting the Source Stone back and restoring balance to the Enchanted Grove. But now, with Red-Scarlett standing in our way, everything was in jeopardy.

With a primal roar, I launched myself at her, my claws slashing through the air as I fought to drive her back. But even as I fought, I couldn”t shake the gnawing sense of dread that gripped me. Goldie was still in danger, still trapped in that pit, and I couldn”t afford to lose her.

I refused to give up. I refused to let Red-Scarlett win. With every fiber of my being, I vowed to fight for Goldie, for our future, for everything we had worked so hard to achieve. And as the echoes of our struggle reverberated through the cavern, I knew that our fate hung in the balance, waiting to be decided by the outcome of this final, desperate battle.

As the pirates scrambled to get Goldie out of the trap, I focused all my attention on keeping Red-Scarlett at bay. Every fiber of my being screamed with the need to protect Goldie, to shield her from harm, but I knew that I couldn”t afford to let my guard down for even a moment.

Just as the pirates managed to pull Goldie to safety, there was a deafening crash, and a group of thugs burst onto the scene, their faces twisted with malice as they brandished their weapons. “Give us the harlot with the fancy gem in her basket!”

“We’s been following her since Tunnel City. You’s a wily one, ain’t ya?” Another panted.

”Get away from her, you scum!” one of the pirates shouted, lunging at the thugs with a ferocious battle cry.

But the thugs were relentless, their attacks coming fast and furious as they sought to overpower us. I fought with all my strength, my claws slashing through the air as I tried to keep them and the Huntress at bay, but they were too numerous, too determined to stop us.

As I clashed with Red-Scarlett, our blades flashing, I could feel the weight of her every strike, each blow carrying the deadly precision of a seasoned warrior. Despite the urgency of our battle, I couldn”t help but admire her skill, the fluid grace with which she moved, her every movement a testament to her years of training.

But even as I fought, I couldn”t afford to let myself be distracted by her skill. Goldie was in danger, surrounded by enemies on all sides, and I knew that I had to do everything in my power to protect her. With a primal growl, I launched myself at Red-Scarlett, my claws slashing through the air as I sought to drive her back. But she was a formidable opponent, her every movement calculated and precise as she parried my blows with effortless grace.

”Stay back, Goldie!” I shouted, my voice raw with urgency as I fought to keep Red-Scarlett at bay. But even as I fought, I could see the fear in Goldie”s eyes, the uncertainty as she watched the chaos unfold around her.

Meanwhile, the pirates battled fiercely against the thugs, their shouts mingling with the clash of weapons as they fought to protect Goldie and each other. Despite the odds stacked against them, they fought with a fierce determination, their every movement a testament to their unwavering resolve.

As blades clashed and sparks flew between us, I struggled to reason with Red-Scarlett, to make her see reason amidst the chaos of battle. ”You don”t understand,” I growled, my voice strained with frustration. ”I”m not unmated. You can stop hunting me.”

But Red-Scarlett”s resolve remained unyielding, her eyes cold and determined as she continued to press her attack. ”I know you”re lying,” she spat, her voice dripping with contempt. ”I can sense the bond of a mated werewolf, and you don”t have it.”

With a frustrated snarl, I lashed out at her once more, the weight of her accusations weighing heavily on my mind. Despite my efforts to reason with her, it was clear that she was determined to see me dead, to fulfill her duty to the Council of Others no matter the cost.

”It”s only because I haven”t bitten her yet,” I argued, my voice strained with frustration. ”Once I do, then you”ll see.”

But Red-Scarlett”s smile only grew more victorious, her eyes gleaming with triumph. ”See, unmated,” she declared, her voice ringing out over the sounds of battle.

Her words hit me like a physical blow, the weight of her accusation settling heavily in my chest. Despite my protests, despite my efforts to protect Goldie and the others, it seemed that Red-Scarlett was determined to see me as nothing more than an unmated werewolf, a threat to be eliminated at all costs.

Then suddenly the world really spun around me as a sudden impact sent me hurtling through the air. I crashed into the ground with a bone-jarring thud, skidding across the earth until I came to a stop behind a large boulder. Stars danced before my eyes as pain shot through my body, every muscle protesting the violent landing.

For a moment, I lay there, dazed and disoriented, trying to shake off the shock of the blow. My senses reeled, the sounds of battle echoing in my ears as I struggled to focus. With a growl of frustration, I pushed myself up onto shaky arms, gritting my teeth against the pain that radiated through every limb.

As I peered around the edge of the boulder, the chaos of the fight unfolded before me, the clash of weapons and shouts of combatants filling the air. My heart pounded in my chest as I scanned the scene, searching desperately for any sign of Goldie and the others amidst the turmoil.
