SEVENTEEN

As we stoodamidst the chaos of the clearing, Fenris suddenly turned towards the towering cliff face that loomed over us. His eyes widened in recognition, a mixture of awe and realization dawning in their depths. I followed his gaze, my own eyes drawn to the massive entrance that had seemingly materialized out of the stone. The mouth of the cave stretched wide, its jagged edges illuminated by the soft glow of the setting sun. The rock formations seemed to twist and curve, forming intricate patterns that hinted at the ancient power that lay within.

”It”s the Mouth of the Goddess,” Fenris breathed, his voice barely more than a whisper. ”We”ve found it.”

I stared in wonder at the majestic sight before us, the significance of our discovery sinking in. This was the legendary landmark that had eluded us for so long, the key to unlocking the secrets of the Source Stone and restoring balance to the Enchanted Grove.

As Fenris stepped forward, a sense of reverence washed over me. We had journeyed so far, faced countless challenges and dangers, all in pursuit of this moment. And now, as we stood on the threshold of the cave”s entrance, I couldn”t help but feel a surge of anticipation coursing through me. With a determined nod, I followed Fenris into the mouth of the cave, ready to confront whatever trials lay ahead. Together, we would uncover the truth behind the Source Stone and fulfill our destiny as guardians of the Enchanted Grove.

As we ventured deeper into the cavernous depths of the Mouth of the Goddess, the air took on a tangible sense of magic, thick and heavy with enchantment. Wisps of mist curled around us, illuminated by the soft glow emanating from the walls.

”Looks like we stumbled upon the mystical heart of the Enchanted Grove,” Fenris remarked, his voice tinged with awe.

”Feels like we walked straight into a fairy tale,” I replied, my eyes wide with wonder.

Tumble, perched on my shoulder, chirped excitedly. ”I”ve heard stories about this place! They say it”s where the magic of the Grove is at its strongest.”

”Then we”re definitely in the right spot,” one of the pirates chimed in, his eyes shining with anticipation.

As we approached the center of the chamber, the glow grew more intense, casting strange shadows upon the walls. And there, rising up from the floor like a pillar of light, stood the crystal, its surface shimmering with an otherworldly luminescence.

”Wow, would you look at that?” another pirate exclaimed, nudging his companion. ”Bet you”ve never seen anything like this before!”

Fenris nodded in agreement, his gaze fixed on the crystal. ”It”s like something out of a dream.”

I couldn”t help but feel a thrill of excitement coursing through me as we approached the crystal. Tumble let out a low whistle, clearly impressed by the sight before us.

”Alright, folks,” I said, my voice tinged with anticipation. ”Let”s do this.”

As I reached into my picnic basket to retrieve the Source Stone, I couldn”t help but notice its radiant glow, pulsating with an otherworldly energy. Just as I was about to place it back in its rightful spot, a shadow emerged from the depths of the cave, coalescing into the form of a figure.

”Who goes there?” Fenris growled, his stance shifting into one of protective readiness.

As the figure stepped forward, my heart skipped a beat.

“Councilman Behr?” Fenris asked, surprise in his tone. “Ben’s father?”

It was none other than a member of the Council of Others. His expression was stern, his eyes fixed firmly on the Source Stone in my hand as the cavern suddenly trembled beneath their feet.

”Hand over the Source Stone, girl,” he demanded, his voice echoing through the chamber.

I hesitated, glancing at Fenris and then back at the Councilman. ”Why do you need it?” I asked, my voice steady despite the unease churning in my stomach.

”It is not for you to question,” he replied, his tone sharp and authoritative. ”The Council requires its power to maintain order in the Grove.”

”But what about the consequences?” I pressed, my grip tightening around the stone. ”Removing it could destabilize the magic, endangering everyone.”

The Councilman”s gaze hardened, his jaw set in determination. ”The Council has made its decision. Now hand it over.”

I glanced at Fenris, silently pleading for guidance. He met my gaze with a reassuring nod, his eyes reflecting the same determination as mine.

With a deep breath, I stepped forward, holding the Source Stone out toward the Councilman. ”I”m sorry,” I said, my voice tinged with defiance. ”But I can”t let you take it.”

The Councilman”s eyes narrowed, his expression darkening with anger. ”Then you leave me no choice,” he growled, taking a step closer. “I need that Source Stone!”

As the Councilman”s intentions suddenly became clear, a surge of apprehension washed over me. His desire to control the Source Stone”s power for himself added another layer of danger to an already precarious situation. ”I won”t let you use it for your own ends,” I declared, my voice firm despite the tremors of fear racing through me.

Fenris stood by my side, his presence a reassuring anchor in the chaos unfolding around us. ”You”ll have to go through us first,” he growled, his eyes blazing with determination.

The Councilman”s gaze flickered with frustration, his hands twitching as if itching to snatch the stone from my grasp. ”You foolish girl,” he spat, his tone dripping with contempt. ”You know not the power you wield.”

But before he could make a move, the cavern trembled once more, a low, ominous rumble echoing through the chamber. The walls seemed to pulse with a faint, ethereal light, casting strange shadows across the chamber floor.

I tightened my grip on the Source Stone, feeling its energy thrumming beneath my fingertips.

“That Source Stone will weaken the wall and then I can suck all the energy from the human realm until I have all the power in existence!”

The Councilman”s words sent a chill down my spine. His desire to destabilize the walls between realms and siphon power from the human world for his own gain was a terrifying prospect. It would not only endanger our world but also plunge the human realm into chaos.

”We can”t let you do that,” I said, my voice trembling with a mixture of fear and resolve. ”The consequences would be catastrophic.”

Fenris stepped forward, his expression steely. ”You won”t get away with this,” he warned, his voice a low growl that reverberated through the cavern.

But the Councilman merely chuckled, a sinister gleam in his eyes. ”You underestimate me, pup,” he sneered, his tone dripping with arrogance. ”I”ve spent centuries preparing for this moment. No one will stand in my way.”

With a flick of his hand, he summoned dark tendrils of magic, twisting and coiling around him like serpents ready to strike. As the air crackled with energy, I knew that we were about to face our greatest challenge yet. But no matter the odds, we had to stop him – for the sake of both our worlds.

“Stop! Stop now!” Fenris”s words resonated in the cavern, a stark reminder of the stakes at hand. ”Without the walls, there are Others who can”t survive,” he explained, his voice firm with conviction. ”They need the purity of our realm”s air to breathe.”

The Councilman”s expression twisted into a sneer. ”Their sacrifice is a small price to pay for my power,” he retorted, his voice dripping with disdain.

But I couldn”t stand by and watch as innocent lives were put at risk for the Councilman”s selfish ambitions. ”We won”t let you harm anyone,” I declared, my voice trembling with determination. ”We”ll find another way to protect both our worlds.”

Councilman Behr turned to the Huntress with a deep sigh, sounding almost bored. “Kill them and bring me the Source Stone.”

“No.” Red-Scarlett, standing tall and defiant, met his gaze without flinching. ”I”m retired,” she retorted, her defiance echoing through the cavern. ”You can go suck eggs for all I care.”

“And you can suffer.” With a flick of his wrist, the Councilman unleashed a surge of dark energy, striking Red-Scarlett down where she stood. The force of the blast sent her sprawling to the ground, her body wracked with pain as she struggled to rise.

Fenris roared in anger, his eyes blazing with fury as he charged forward to defend his fallen comrade. ”You”ll pay for that!” he snarled, his voice a low growl as he launched himself at the Councilman.

But the Councilman merely sneered, his expression twisted with contempt as he raised his hand once more, prepared to unleash another blast of magic.

My rage boiled over, a primal instinct taking hold as I unleashed a guttural roar that reverberated through the cavern, shaking the very crystals that adorned its walls. My eyes blazed with an otherworldly light, a fierce determination burning within me as she stepped forward to confront the Councilman. ”You will not harm us!” I declared, my voice resonating with a power I never knew I possessed. ”We will protect the Source Stone and restore the balance you seek to disrupt.”

My words echoed off the walls of the cavern, carrying with them a strength that seemed to defy the Councilman”s dark intentions.

I watched in disbelief as Tumble, perched on my shoulder, suddenly sprang into action. With a swift leap, it landed on the ground and opened its tiny mouth, which stretched impossibly wide, forming a swirling black vortex that seemed to defy the laws of nature.

The Councilman”s terrified screams echoed through the cavern as he struggled against the powerful pull of the vortex. ”What”s happening?!” he shouted, his voice filled with fear and desperation.

Fenris stepped forward, his expression a mixture of concern and determination. ”Hold on, Goldie,” he said, his voice steady despite the chaos unfolding around us. ”We”ll get through this.”

I clutched the Source Stone tightly in my hand, feeling its pulsating energy against my skin. ”What is Tumble doing?!” I exclaimed, my heart racing with a mix of fear and fascination.

Tumble”s eyes gleamed with an otherworldly light as it continued to channel its mysterious power. The vortex grew stronger, its dark tendrils reaching out hungrily, drawing the Councilman closer with each passing moment. And then, with a final desperate cry, the Councilman was swallowed by the darkness, disappearing into the depths of Tumble”s mysterious maw.

The vortex dissipated, leaving behind a profound silence that hung heavy in the air.

I stared at Tumble in astonishment, unable to comprehend the enormity of what had just transpired. ”Did... did that really just happen?” I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper.

Tumble let out a huge, satisfied burp, its form shrinking back to its usual size. I blinked in disbelief, still trying to process the surreal events that had just unfolded. ”Did you... eat him?” I asked, my voice tinged with equal parts shock and amazement.

Fenris stepped closer, his gaze fixed on Tumble with a mixture of awe and amusement as the creature climbed back up to my shoulder. ”Looks like it,” he replied, his voice tinged with a hint of disbelief. ”Remind me never to get on your bad side, Tumble.”

I couldn”t help but let out a nervous laugh, the tension of the moment finally starting to ebb away. ”Well, that”s one way to deal with a power-hungry Councilman,” I said, a wry smile tugging at the corners of my lips.

As the adrenaline of the encounter began to fade, I turned to Fenris, my heart still pounding in my chest. ”What now?” I asked, my voice laced with uncertainty. ”Is it over?”

Fenris enveloped me in his strong arms, a sense of warmth and safety washing over me. “It’s over. Ready for the next chapter, my beautiful mate?” Tumble perched on my shoulder, its tiny eyes sparkling with mischief as it looked between us.

I met Fenris”s gaze, feeling a flutter of anticipation in my chest at his words. ”Yeah,” I said, a smile spreading across my face. ”Let”s do it.”

With Tumble as our witness, we sealed our bond with a kiss, our hearts entwining as we embraced our destiny together.

A sudden realization struck me like a bolt of lightning. ”Wait!” I gasped, pulling away from Fenris.

”What is it?” he asked, concern etching his features.

”My grandma”s cookies!” I exclaimed, my eyes widening in horror. ”I nearly forgot them!”
