Chapter 30 Junie
Junie
Georgia dips into the back office, for her bag most likely, since she said she’s heading out to the ATM.
Eddie sidles up beside Junie. “Is your aunt always that awful?” The tops of his ears are red; it’s an Eddie-size serving of
rage.
“The liquor seems to have made her meaner than ever tonight.” Junie watches Cece chatting with a couple of neighbors near
the bar, and she’d really like to march right up and smack her upside the head. “And just as I was thinking she’d gotten a
bit softer on Georgia since we started this whole shebang.”
“There’s none of that tonight,” Eddie says. “I’ll go check on Georgia.”
He’s two steps away when Junie says, “Would you go with her?”
Not that Junie’s in a great position to ask for more help from Eddie, but he might be alright with this request.
“Was already planning on it.” He pats her on the back and heads in the direction Georgia disappeared.
A minute later they emerge from the back.
Her cheeks are flushed like they always are when she’s upset, and Eddie stays right at her side.
There’s something about the two of them together that seems so natural, almost predestined, as if their whole deal wasn’t a ship fully sailed off the edge of the world.
They really are perfect for each other, or at least they were before Georgia took an ax to the relationship. Wouldn’t it be
perfect if they ended up together? Eddie’s basically a brother to Junie now—having him permanently in their little Louise
world would be a natural extension. It’s not something Junie would’ve dreamed up, especially when both Eddie and Georgia were
gone. But now, in a twist of fate, they’re here. At the same time. Maybe it’s the universe working in their favor.
