Grace

Diary entry

What do you mean to me?

Everything.

When we fall in love with someone, we sometimes grow too attached to them.

To their scent, their smile, the feeling of their touch, the way they look at us…

We want to have them all to ourselves.

Not share them with anyone else.

Have them all to ourselves. Exclusively.

We become like an innocent child who, after stumbling upon the most beautiful butterfly in the field, captures it, keeps it imprisoned, and admires it, day in, day out.

Even as it is dying.

But we, who hold such a cherished, irreplaceable treasure captive, usually don’t see their deterioration, only their beauty.

All we feel is the warmth, the joy, the satisfaction at having them all to ourselves.

Only we can see them, touch them, and take pleasure in them.

I was just like that innocent child.

I captured the most beautiful butterfly in the world,

and took pleasure in it, day in, day out.

I was selfish.

I am still selfish.

And that won’t change.

Because I love her.
