Graveborn
Prologue

Creating a human is complicated, but not impossible.
I have to succeed, no room for failure. Perfection and precision are the keys for achieving your desires. And I will do anything in this world to get her back, even if it gets to breaking the universe’s natural laws of existence.
The piercing metallic tip of my ink pen scraping against the paper surface as I write down in my journal.
Experiment failed.
Again.
The desperation is scorching every piece of my soul, burning with every inhale and exhale I take. Throwing the pen towards a nearby table in frustration, glass shatters as a small container of human hair falls onto the oak floor.
I lean back in my chair, resting the back of my head onto the sharp edge, enjoying the slight ache at the base of my skull.
The wooden floor creaking with age, the walls are closing in as I look up towards the ceiling.
I start loosening my tie, gulping for air as my lungs twists on itself.
My vision blurs, breathing heavily as I stand up abruptly.
Leaping forward onto my desk as I struggle to breathe. It's chaotic here with all the sketches, diagrams, equations and hundreds of attempts recorded into my journals scattered over my desk.
The inhaler appears finally, hidden under one of the sketches, grabbing it firmly in my grip as I put it between my lips and breathe.
My lungs expand and my vision clears out as relief floods through my veins.
I sit back down, leaning forward with my elbows resting onto my knees as I catch my breath.
My glasses slide down further onto the crooked edge of my nose and I reach my middle finger up to adjust it, skin sweaty with the basement’s humid air.
The asthma episodes have been coming more frequently the more I fail. Since I have been tormenting myself, trying to achieve my goal. Zero sleep and barely eating.
Every. Single. Day.
But that won't stop me. Nothing will.
I want her.
Maniacally.
I will not let myself fail again, until she belongs to me.
I have wasted enough time already, letting the world take her away without my permission.
Flipping to a new page as I take a deep breath and start writing down all the elements I need to begin from scratch.
Attempt number 301..
