Chapter 16

Kimber

I promised him I would wait.

I rolled over in our bed and tried to find it.

But I couldn’t.

Therefore, I climbed out of bed, strolled to the closet, grabbed one of his hoodies, walked to the bathroom, and sprayed the hoodie with his cologne.

Then I climbed back into bed, pulled the covers over me, and lay my head down on that hoodie.

Day 8

I walked into the clubhouse to help get everything ready for the Thanksgiving dinner that was taking place in two days.

Day 12

I was back at the clubhouse helping clear out the leftovers from Thanksgiving. And to also help decorate for Christmas.

Day 24

I went to see Grey.

His eyes misted as he stared at me, his hands clenched into fists when the guard called out, “No touching.”

Day 38

It was Christmas Eve.

And I had spent it in the room while I waited to see Grey for all of ten fucking minutes.

Merry Christmas to me.

Day 39

Mom called fourteen times so far, and I blocked her.

Then, Dad called, and I blocked him, too.

My brother called, and I blocked him.

Holly Anne called, and I blocked her, too.

Kourt even called, I blocked her too.

Day 65

That storm was brutal.

That thunder was hellacious.

Day 79

“Hey there, beautiful, never seen you before. How about you let me show you how much fun being on the wild side can be?” a man said close to my ear.

My body shivered, and then I lifted my head and looked over at the man who was standing way too fucking close to me.

Where the hell was the bouncer who stood at the end of the hall?

I smirked, “How about you get away from me before I go ask Jury to come in here and have you forcibly removed from this establishment.”

“Oh, you know my man, Jury?” he asked.

“Sure do. So, that means you know my old man Grey, right?” I asked sweetly.

His face paled, “Wait? You?”

“Yeah. She’s my brother’s ol’ lady. So how about you get the fuck out of her office while you still have the use of both of your legs,” Kettle growled.

I snickered, then I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe as the man ran from the office and bumped into everything as he fled.

Kettle shook his head, “You good?”

I smiled, “Yeah, Kettle. Thanks.”

He lifted his chin, then walked out of the office. Then I heard it, “Where the fuck were you?”

I smiled.

The man stuttered, “I...”

The sound of flesh meeting flesh floated to my ears.

Day 100

So, this was new.

I wasn’t led to the area that had tables and chairs.

No, I was led to an area that had a chair behind a piece of glass and a phone on the wall.

And when I saw Grey, I gasped.

His eyes softened as they locked onto mine.

“What the hell happened?” I asked the moment I had the phone pressed to my ear.

He sighed, “Fuckers thought they could send a message through me to the club. I’m the one still walking while they had to be transported to the emergency room.”

I winced, “You’re okay?”

He winked, “Baby, as long as you're okay, then I’m okay.”

I smiled, “I miss you.”

He winked, “Miss you too.”

“Have you seen her?” he asked.

I didn’t need to ask who he was referring to.

I shook my head. “The brothers have been looking for her, but nothing yet.”

See, when Grey was arrested, he told them to get Kacie out of his sight.

What they didn’t know was that they thought they had found the way she used to escape the cellar when they had her in there trying to detox her years ago.

She was in there, and then half an hour later, she was gone.

Day 150

“Hey, Kacie, it’s me, Kimber. Grey wants to see you.” I said that, then I hung up.

Always her freaking voicemail.

Seventeen messages.

Day 175

“Any update?” he asked.

I sighed, “No.”

He growled, “Well, try harder.”

I lifted a brow, “Excuse me.”

“She would have called back by now,” he said.

I shook my head, “No. Grey. She wouldn’t have. And that’s because she doesn’t need anything from you.”

Day 183

I slammed the paper against the glass so he could read it.

‘Your bitch made me write this so you would know it was me asking. Tell her to give me a couple hundred dollars. Yeah?’

Once I was sure he had read it, I lowered the paper and said one word, “No.”

Then I walked away.

Day 193

“You have a collect call from Pierre Parish County Jail. Will you accept the charges?” A robotic voice said.

“No.”

Day 197

“You have a collect call from Pierre Parish County Jail. Will you accept the charges?”

“No.”

Day 200

“Kimber, he’s seeing it. What he’s been doing. Cut your man some slack, yeah?” Nuke said.

I growled.

He winked.

Day 202

His eyes came to mine the moment I saw his frame clear the archway, and then... his body seemed to deflate with relief.

Shit.

And shit again because some kind of alarm went off, and then they took him away, as well as every inmate in the room, and led us all outside.

Day 210

“He’s seen the light, I think,” Khal said as I helped make Sunday dinner at the clubhouse.

I sighed, “I hope you're right.”

“He will,” at the sound of Nuke’s voice, I lifted my head.

“How can you be so sure?” I asked.

He winked, “Cause he’s seeing the damage his sister has been doing. It’s working.”

Day 235

I saw him in the room and waited for him to be brought in.

And I sat there and waited some more.

Finally, when he was brought in, he walked over to me, his face unreadable to those who didn’t know him, but I knew him.

He was feeling regret.

And I knew it when he slid a piece of paper in front of me and took a seat.

“I’m an ass. I love you.”

I sighed, then I mouthed, “I love you too.”

He smirked.

Day 294

I woke up to someone banging on the front.

And the moment I opened the door, two cops were standing there with Kacie right in the middle.

“She says she lives here.” Kacie looked at me and smirked.

I sighed, “She doesn’t live here, but she’s my man’s sister.”

Knowing Grey would want me to do this, I stepped aside so she could come in.

And in the morning... I growled at the missing items from the closet.

That fucking bitch.

And my missing equipment from my other bedroom, where I worked from.

That. Fucking. Bitch.

Day 300

“Aw, isn’t this sweet. It’s the bitch table,” Kacie said with a smile on her face.

“Aw, look. It’s the vile piece of shit that doesn’t know how to stop stinking up the place,” Nola said.

Kacie gasped, “You bitch.”

Nola shrugged, “Rather be that than a cunt.”

“A cuntasaurous is more like it,” I growled.

Ophelia chuckled, “Or a cuntmuffin.”

“Or a twatwaffle.” Nola suggested.

Kacie glared at us and then said, “I’ll talk to Grey about this.”

That night...

“You have a collect call from Pierre Parish County Jail. Will you accept the charges?”

“Yes,” I said.

A few moments later, I heard his deep, gravelly voice.

“Heard you had a run-in with my sister?” he asked.

“She was rude first, Grey.” I snapped.

He sighed, “I know, baby. Not much I can do from inside here. I’m going to talk to her when I get out.”

I gasped, “Really?”

He sighed, “Yeah. Baby, you’re the most important thing in my life. You can trust in that. I’ll make things right.”

“I don’t know, Grey.”

He sighed, “I know I fucked up. I’m going to make this right. Fucking swear to you.”

We will see.

Day 325

“She’s gone again.” Jury said as I was doing the books.

Day 336

I drove home... only to see that I didn’t have a home.

And that was because of Kacie.

I knew it was because of the message that was spray-painted on my lawn.

“You can thank that junkie bitch.”

Day 349

“I haven’t told him,” I told Nuke.

He nodded, “Good. We met. She’s gone as soon as he gets out and we tell him.”

Day 350

“Don’t worry. He chose you a long time ago.” Wolf said.

Day 364

One more day, I mentally said.

Day 365

“It’s time.” I smiled up at the ceiling, flung the covers off, checked the time... perfect.

No normal person got up at four in the morning.

But today... I was anything but normal.

What I was... was excited.

Because my man was finally coming home...

And then... as I stood outside of the jail, guess who had the fucking nerves to show up.

“You are not here,” I growled.

“I was here a long time before you were bitch.” Kacie taunted.

“You won’t speak to her like that,” Kettle growled.

I felt my mouth drop open.

“Yeah... and what are you going to do about it? I heard all about you. You would never put your hands on a woman.”

“No. But he will,” Kettle growled as he pointed to Grimm, who was stalking our way.

His upper lip curled.

Would it be wrong to smirk?

Probably.

Did I do it anyway?

Yes. Yes, I did.

Because it was her fault that my house was set on fire last month.

And why I lost everything I owned.

And as Grimm hauled her away, I smiled.
