Chapter 20 #2

Careful of my belly, I leaned over the railing, which caused Grey to snarl, then he grabbed my hips as I reached and popped the little shithead on the back of the head.

He winced, then he looked up at me, “I deserve that.”

I growled, “Yeah, you did. Stealing food from a girl. Who the fuck does that?”

“Shit,” I heard Grey murmur.

He winced, “I’m so sorry. What can I do to make it up to you?”

I smiled, “Gimmie your number.”

I reached for my phone as I straightened and put his number into my phone.

Then I looked down at him, “Dinner next Tuesday. I’ll text you the time and address. Don’t be late.” I warned.

He nodded.

I stood there as I watched him race back to the sidelines, then he spoke, then I got eyes on me, then they each shoulder bumped him.

I grinned.

Then I looked up at Grey, who smiled at me, then asked, “So? Care to elaborate?”

“They called my name for my order at Palmero’s earlier this year. That little shit saw it, and shouted he was in a hurry, ran up and stole it.”

Grey winced then nodded, “Okay, yes. Major malfunction definitely runs in the family.”

I threw my head back and laughed.

Shit definitely happened for a reason.

It was the next Tuesday night, and Warren was at our house with his wife, Melissa, and their son, Alexander.

Grey’s eyes teared up when he saw the little boy and learned his name.

It was Alexander. The same as Grey’s middle name.

It took about nine minutes for Melissa to look between Warren and Grey.

Then it took two minutes for Warren to catch on.

His jaw dropped.

Then, when Grey told him about the gifts he had left for him over the years on his birthdays... Warren teared up.

I kept Melissa and Alexander busy while Grey took Warren out on the back deck to talk to him.

And two hours later, when they came back, Grey asked, “That album, baby. Where is it?”

He was asking about the album I had made for him on his birthday last month.

See, over the years, when they were younger, they had bounced around from foster home to foster home. That didn’t make a lot of memories.

So, I talked to Merlin, and with a smile on his face, he helped me.

And together we were able to take the only photos we had of them as kids, upload them to this site, and we got pictures of them through the years.

Grey had teared up when I handed it to him.

Kacie was and would forever be his sister.

And in a way... mine too.

***

Speaking of shit happening for a reason... the woman walking from customer to customer... talk about my man being her mirror image.

Then my brain started to work as I watched the woman.

I felt Nola’s eyes on me, then they moved to where I was looking, then she leaned over and whispered, “Do we like her?”

I shrugged, “I don’t know.”

We were currently in the next town over, helping Nola get the last bit of things she needed before her baby came into this world.

And I sat there and stared at the woman.

Two days later, I handed over the money to the private investigator and waited.

Four months later, I sat across from him as he slid a folder in front of me.

Three hours later, I talked to Merlin.

He talked to Nuke.

Khal winked at me as he drove.

As I stared at Grey and Kacie’s mother, I felt my heart hurt.

She hadn’t left them on purpose.

Neither of them ever knew.

They never knew that she had killed a man who was standing over the two of them in their bed while jerking at his cock.

Neither of them knew that she had called the cops on herself.

Neither of them knew that when she got out, she tried to find them.

But that asshole who was Kacie’s father had kept them hidden.

He had kept them hidden not only because he didn’t want his wife to know that he had fathered Kacie, but also because his brother was the sick bastard that she had killed.

Slowly, I walked up to her and smiled, “Hi, I’m Kimber. It’s nice to meet you.”

She smiled a confused smile as she said, “Hi, I’m Carrie.”

Then I pulled out my phone, pulled up the picture of Grey and smiled, “He got your eyes.”

Then I showed her the picture of Grey.

She gasped.

Then, hesitantly, she reached for my phone and for long moments she studied the photo.

Then she looked at my belly.

“His?” she asked.

I smiled, then I nodded.

Just then, my phone rang in her hand, she showed it to me, and I smiled as I took it from her, “Hey, honey.”

“Hey, baby girl, where are you?” he asked.

I smiled, “Go to the clubhouse. I’m on my way.”

“K. Love you, baby.”

“Love you, too,” I said, then hung up and tossed my phone in my bag.

I looked at his mother and asked, “Would you like to see Grey again?”

She bit her lip and then hesitantly she nodded, “I tried to find him after...”

I smiled, “I know. I hired a PI to find you. Then, Merlin, one of the club brothers, did some digging. He will understand. I promise.”

She nodded, then slowly, a beaming smile spread across her face, “Okay.”

Then softly, she asked, “And Kacie?”

Then it was my turn to bite my lip, “Umm, you’ll have to talk to Grey about Kacie. It’s not my story to tell.”

She winced, but she nodded.

Two hours later, I wrapped my arm around Carrie's, and with Khal at our backs, I led her inside.

***

I smiled as Grey’s mouth dropped open.

“Well, guess our baby has a grandmother,” Grey said.

Carrie’s eyes went wide, and then she burst into tears.
