Chapter 3

“What do you mean a cat? A cat shifter?” Aiden asked. He sat back down on the bed, frowning.

“I wonder…” The shifter who had freed Jamie had powers like Leah. His friend and fellow Guardian, Leah Fitzsimmons, now Leah MacLeod, was a cougar shifter who could run so fast she could actually teleport. He knew she had two brothers. Jamie had met her eldest brother Sam at Leah’s wedding to Grey Lake police officer and wolf shifter Finn MacLeod. But Leah also had a twin brother that Jamie hadn’t met yet. Quinn was in hiding as he was under suspicion for starting the fires that almost cost Iris and her unborn child’s lives. Jamie had never even seen a picture of Quinn.

“What kind of cat shifter? How’d he get you out of a cage? Did he work there? Why didn’t he bring you back home?” Aiden asked rapid fire. After a few moments, he continued. “Why aren’t you speaking? What’s the matter? You’re spacing out on me.”

Jamie shook his head and forced his gaze from his very handsome best friend. He needed to focus on what Aiden was saying. He had to keep his thoughts away from the man’s sea blue eyes and the rugged dark blond mustache and beard that he wanted to rub his hands….

“Ahem! You wanted to focus, right?” his wolf interrupted.

Jamie rubbed the heels of his hands into his eyes. “Ah, I don’t know if he worked there. I had never seen him before. I think he might’ve been a cougar shifter.” He lowered his hands and turned back to Aiden. “I was in pretty bad shape when he rescued me so it was hard to tell. He seemed young, in his mid-twenties maybe.”

“Hair color, cut, height, weight?”

Jamie closed his eyes and tried to remember the dream. “Thin, athletic frame, well maybe a little lanky, I guess. Pale, but his hair was covered by a hood. He was wearing dark colors.”

“That’s good, good,” Aiden said. He wrapped a hand over one of Jamie’s.

Jamie opened his eyes and peaked at Aiden, who appeared grief-stricken. “He was about my height, maybe a bit shorter. Definitely shorter than you, you giant.” He grinned at Aiden. He wanted to ease his friend’s worries.

“OK, so thin, athletic frame or lanky, pale, wearing dark colors including a hood, about five-ten to six feet or so,” Aiden said. “Did you see his face, eye color, beard, mustache?”

“I saw his face. Light eyes. I’m pretty sure they were green. No facial hair.”

“Alright. I wonder how he was able to break you out. Did he have a key or pick the lock?” Aiden asked.

Jamie shook his head. “Uh, no. He teleported.”
