Chapter 2 Inquiries in the Capital

The capital was filled with splendor and prosperity, but I was not dazzled by it.

I had studied hard for ten years just to achieve Name On The Golden List. I could enjoy these good things after passing the exam.

When I arrived at the lodging, I casually ate a couple of bites and then continued reading.

I read until midnight before I lay down to sleep.

But as soon as I closed my eyes, my mind was full of that young lady's face, making my heart itch unbearably.

I called the book boy and gave him half a bag of loose money.

"Go inquire who the people surnamed Jia with ancestral roots in Jinling are around here."

The book boy smiled and went out. He had not been gone for five minutes before he returned.

"Young master, I only inquired, but with just one or two sentences, people said, who else could there be for those with Jinling ancestry surnamed Jia? Naturally only the Ning and Rong households, with connections reaching the heavens and grand style."

Ning and Rong. These two words seemed familiar, but I could not remember where I had heard them.

"Young master, do not think about it anymore. Their family is large and powerful. How could they look up to us?"

Hearing this, I reached out and knocked him.

"If I manage to pass with high honors, not to mention a fake one, even if it is a real noble family, would they not have to beg me to be their son-in-law?"

The imperial examinations could change one's fate. Although my family was well-off and had received imperial grace in earlier years, the previous people had already passed.

The title inheritance lasted three generations. By my father's time, it was barely continued for another breath. When it came to me, nothing was left.

If I truly wanted to win the beauty, I absolutely could not slack off in the Palace Exam the day after tomorrow.

Thinking of this, I sat up again.

I might as well continue reading. I could not sleep anyway.
