Chapter 19 Bringing Yinglian Home
On the way back to the residence, Daiyu used a handkerchief to help Yinglian wipe her tears.
"Do you still remember your own name? Where does your family live?"
Yinglian shook her head pitifully.
I knew her background, but calculating the time, her family members were probably no longer findable.
Saying it would only make her sad.
"Since you don't remember, stay with us from now on and keep Daiyu company. Since you have no name, how about we call you Yinglian from now on?"
Zhen Yinglian's real name was this. Xiangling or anything else would only sound desolate.
Yinglian looked up in surprise, her eyes full of gratitude.
"Really?"
Daiyu smiled and gripped Yinglian's hand tightly.
"Of course it's true. There are four or five sisters at home. We can play together, and no one will let that fat-headed, big-eared fellow bully you anymore."
Yinglian nodded timidly and shed two tears.
"Stop crying. Tears harm the body. If you cry when happy today and cry when sad tomorrow, you'll dry up your tears and won't be able to live."
Daiyu quickly helped Yinglian wipe her tears. These words were things I had repeated to her countless times.
Now this girl was using them to comfort others.
I specifically ordered a room prepared for Yinglian. The several sisters previously arranged to accompany Daiyu had also grown up.
These four had been taught by me since they were young to manage household accounts, people, and affairs. Each was extremely mature and could be sent out without being inferior to stewards from prominent households.
Daiyu got along very well with these four. Upon returning home, she eagerly pulled Yinglian to greet them.
"Why isn't Xue Pan coming?"
Jia Min saw no one else behind me and looked surprised.
"Why call him over? Didn't you see the wound on Yinglian's face?"
"I had long heard that the Xue family's boy is a tyrant in Jinling, but I didn't expect him to be so dissolute. But our Daiyu beat him for no reason. Won't this create a grudge?"
"Right now only the Xue family is trying to flatter us. What is there to fear?"
I shook my head. Jia Min had spoken of her natal family with affection and was reluctant to break ties with them.
"Besides, if our Daiyu sees someone outside abusing power to bully men and women but doesn't intervene because they are relatives, would you feel at ease?"
At these words, Jia Min's face flushed red at once.
"I didn't mean that." "I was just afraid Second Sister-in-law would be unhappy." "But what you said is right too. Daiyu did nothing wrong in this matter. I just didn't expect Xue Pan to be so absurd."
"There are even more absurd things. You only need to remember that you and Daiyu living well is most important. You don't need to worry about the rest."
Jia Min nodded and held my hand. "Good."
