PAIGE

Chapter Four

The weather’s been so bad today that I’ve spent most of it inside.

The cabin is surrounded by trees and branches keep thumping against the side of the house.

It’s dark now, but the inside of the cabin is illuminated by flashes of lightning from the approaching storm.

The lights keep flickering on and off as the rumbles of thunder get louder and louder.

I’m meant to be polishing up my article since I have a meeting with my editor in the city tomorrow.

But my head keeps straying back to kissing Callan.

It felt so right, like a jigsaw puzzle where the pieces fit perfectly together.

He’s so much taller than me I was surprised it was so natural.

What was even more surprising was that it was happening in the first place.

I thought Callan was angry with me, but instead he kissed me. We should have had that kiss seven years ago and it felt like we were making up for lost time.

There’s a distant crash from further down the mountain and then a moment later the lights go off. Taylor called earlier today and asked if I wanted to stay with her family, but I thought it would be a good idea to stay here and soak up the atmosphere.

Now I’m cursing myself for being an idiot.

The only light comes from the fireplace and I instinctively move closer, feeling my way forward around the table.

The crashes of thunder are so loud my ears are ringing.

The rain drums harder and harder on the roof.

The childlike side of me wants to get into bed and hide under the covers, but instead I grab a blanket from the sofa, wrap it around myself and go sit in front of the fire. I need to wait for this to pass.

The lightning is flashing every few seconds. I rock back and forth, telling myself that everything is fine.

Suddenly there’s an ear-splitting bang, the entire house flashes white for a second and every hair on my body stands on end. There’s ozone in the air, a weird burnt smell, followed by the sound of water pouring in from upstairs.

I’m on the floor, the blanket over my head, lying as still as I can. There’s no storm cellar here so I’ve created my own cave under the blanket. Definitely childlike but also comforting.

I’m going to have to deal with the water pouring in but I don’t want to move until the lightning isn’t directly overhead, so I wait for five minutes. There’s a cold breeze blowing down the cabin stairs.

There’s a hammering on the door that makes me sit bolt upright. It’s like the spirit of the storm has arrived on my doorstep.

“Paige? You in there?” Callan shouts over the thunder.

I can’t get to the door quick enough. I wrestle it open while the wind and rain blow through the door around Callan’s huge form. In the darkness, he seems even bigger.

He walks in, rain dropping off in streams onto the stone kitchen floor.

“Callan, what the hell are you doing out in the storm? It can’t be safe.” I reach for his coat, but he shakes his head. He’s holding a big roll of tarpaulin under one arm and a toolbox under the other.

“Big storm, yes. But not the biggest. That old codger down in Snowflake got it wrong. We had one four years ago that was worse. Lot of trees down.” He looks down at me, his eyes just visible in the firelight. “I came to see if you were okay. We saw the strike from our place. Did it hit the house?”

I nod. “I think so. There was a bright flash and now there’s rain coming in upstairs.”

“Storm’s passing. It’s not overhead anymore.

I’m going to check out the damage. You stay here.

” He doesn’t give me time to reply and strides up the stairs.

There’s crashing, banging and some cursing from upstairs, so I decide to look for the bottle of brandy my uncle kept stashed away.

I definitely need a drink to cope with the shock of the cabin being struck by lightning and Callan turning up on my doorstep.

There aren’t any mirrors down here, so I run my hands over my hair a few times and scrape it into a ponytail, just in case it’s standing on end and I look like a wild woman.

I find the brandy and take a swig, then look around for some candles and glasses. I light the storm lantern, add some wood to the fire and when Callan comes downstairs thirty minutes later, I’ve relaxed a little.

He takes off his wet coat, runs his fingers through his hair and takes the glass of brandy I hand him. “I’ve patched up the roof and it should be fine for now. It struck over the bathroom, so it’s a little damp in there, but there’s no rain getting in now.”

“Thank you, Callan. My solution would have been to close the door and flood the whole house.” I smile at him. His hair is slightly damp and so is his flannel shirt. “Come warm up next to the fire.”

I’ve put some cushions in front of the fireplace and he walks over and sits down next to me.

“I was a little scared. I guess being in the city has made me lose touch with nature. The big storms don’t seem the same when you’re in an apartment block.” I take a sip of brandy.

“That’s why I like living up here. Storms, sunny days, it all makes you feel more alive. The city... everyone’s too close together.” Callan stares directly at me. I love the way he doesn’t sugar coat what he feels.

“Yeah, it was driving me crazy. I can see why living up here would give you peace of mind.” I look down at the golden brown liquid of my drink.

“My Dad and brother do enough to drive me crazy. The house feels too small for all of us sometimes. That’s why me and Ace spend so much time outside. If my Mom was here it would be different.” He takes a big swig of brandy.

“You must miss her.” I reach out my hand, and he grasps mine in his in return. I stroke the calluses on his palm, marveling at the size of hand.

“I do. We don’t really talk about her being gone. Finn and Dad just want to get on with keeping the business going.” Callan strokes the top of my hand with his thumb.

“I’m sorry about what happened. And I’m sorry I sent you that text telling you not to contact me.

I didn’t know what had happened and my feelings were hurt.

I sent you a card, then I wanted to text you but...

I just didn’t know what to say. So I’m saying it now.

” I swallow a couple of times, looking down.

Callan squeezes my hand. “Finn threw out all the sympathy cards unopened. He said he thought it would be too hard to read them. But I would have liked to know that you sent something.”

I glance up and his warm hazel eyes are gazing at me, the pupils fully dilated.

His hand moves from mine up my arm, stroking it lightly, sending pleasurable tingles up and down my body.

I can’t stop myself reaching forward to stroke the back of his neck, running my fingers through his thick hair.

I’m looking deep into his eyes as he sits forward and effortlessly lifts me onto him, my legs wrapping around his waist as my breath hitches in my throat.

He presses his lips down on mine, softly at first and then harder, exploring every inch of my mouth with his tongue, wrapping his hand around my ponytail to keep my head in the position he wants it.

The idea that he’s got me exactly where he wants me fills my core with warmth as his other hand strokes the curve that runs from my waist down to my hips.

My nipples harden as he grasps onto my ass with his hand, squeezing it through the thin fabric of my sleep shirt and grinding me down onto his rock hard cock.

I break away from the kiss, looking into his eyes.

“Callan, I have to tell you something. I want to do this, so badly, with you. I’m on the pill to help with PCOS.

But I... I haven’t had sex before. You need to know I’m a virgin.

” In my head I’m praying he doesn’t object, since I’ve waited for so long for my perfect guy and now here I am, sitting on top of him.

He smiles at me. “I want to do this. And I was waiting for you, too. So we can be each other’s first time. You’re the only one for me.”

I’m speechless. He’s waited for me? That’s the sexiest thing I can imagine, that I’m the only woman he wants.

I crush my lips down on his as he runs his hands up my thighs, pushing up my shirt, so he can feel my naked ass.

My pussy is drenching wet and I’m not wearing panties, feeling the rough material of his jeans underneath me.

His big hands skim over my curves again as I grind down, feeling his massive cock harden even more.

His hands rise to my breasts, his fingers stroking my erect nipples. He starts softly and then strokes them more firmly through my shirt. I unbutton it, looking into his eyes as my shirt falls open.

He lowers his head to trace each of my nipples with his tongue, licking round and round each of them in circles and then sucking as I gasp his name.

I pull off my shirt so I’m naked above him and push him gently back onto the cushions.

My fingers fumble with his belt buckle in my haste to get it off and he smiles and reaches down, unbuckling it and pulling his jeans off.

His cock is gigantic, like the rest of him, and I feel a buzz of anticipation, wondering how it will fit inside of me.

At the same time, my pussy clenches, imagining him and I locked together.

I lean down and kiss him as he strokes my hair, flipping me round so I’m lying beneath him on the cushions.

"Okay, Paige, I want to taste you." Callan’s voice is deep and growly as he kisses his way down my stomach, down to my mound, spreading my legs apart and licking around my clit as I clutch onto his shoulders.

He licks closer and closer until he starts licking my clit in rhythmic strokes, as I arch my back upwards.

He gently slides one finger in and out of my wet slit until I come, clenching around his finger, every inch of my skin tingling with warmth.

I’m relaxed, but I need more, wanting to feel his cock inside me, filling me up completely. I’m just not entirely sure how it will happen.

Callan picks me up, wrapping my legs around his waist and carries me easily up the stairs to my bedroom.

As I lay back on the sheets, I admire his broad chest above me and I trace the outline of his abs as he shivers slightly.

His body is perfect; not honed in a gym, but the product of hard work on the land, his muscles hard and firm from working outdoors.

He looks down at me, “You are beautiful, Paige. Are you ready?” I nod my head and he spreads my thighs, gently thumbing my clit, almost pushing me over the edge again.

My pussy is dripping wet as he stops at my entrance.

There's a sudden pain which makes me cry out and he pauses, but it only lasts a moment and it's replaced by the exquisite sensation of his massive girth slowly filling up every inch of me. He begins to slide in and almost out, groaning in pleasure, pushing me back onto the bed, and I’ve never felt so full in my life. He’s holding himself up so he doesn’t crush me as he gazes down at me.

He starts to quicken his pace and I can’t help moaning as it feels so good.

He grasps my ass in his hands, my hips rising to meet his as he thrusts again and again, and I see stars behind my eyelids as I come again, warm waves rushing through me.

He thrusts harder and faster, calling my name as he comes.

I’m curled up around him as our breathing slows in unison. I look up at him when I’m able to say something again.

“That was worth waiting seven years for.” I wink.

He laughs. “It was. Let’s not wait seven years next time.”

I tap his nose. “Oh, so there’s going to be a next time?”

He laughs again. I’ve never seen him so relaxed and I love it. “You bet. I just have to get some sleep first.”

Warm and happy, listening to the rain softly falling, I’m at peace.
