Story #4

I gasped because if you were a human over the age of fourteen then you should remember flight 220. It was a plane filled with 228 people, and it crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. It was all over the news for weeks because it was on fire before it even hit the ocean.

“Oh my gosh Halo, I am so sorry. I couldn’t imagine how that day changed you and your family’s lives.”

“It was crazy, but my auntie and uncle stepped in and raised us. Still, my brothers and I carry the scars of losing our parents. That’s why Golden drinks and acts out, Greek is so serious and barely enjoys a moment. I don’t think I’ve heard him laugh genuinely in a long time.”

“And you? What scar do you carry?”

Halo threw our empty chip bags in the garbage that was on the side of his bed. “My scar came before my parents died. It just grew bigger when they did.”

I looked at him talk and his eyes were vacant but help so much sadness. Like he was a tortured child, and someone had their hand over his mouth.

“We just met and I know we don’t really know each other. But Halo when you are around me, I just want you to be yourself. Whoever that is, I’ll never judge you and it’s nothing but good energy you’ll get from me.”

“I appreciate that Story, you a real one. I can tell when I met you that I’d like kickin’ it with you and just being in your presence.”

Halo and I talked until four in the morning.

I kept him laughing and he did the same for me.

The sun came through the blinds, and it hit me in my eyes when I opened them.

Halo’s bed was so comfortable I thought I was in the sky sleeping on a firm soft cloud.

Speaking of Halo, he was asleep next to me.

I propped my head on my hand and watched him sleep. He looked dead if I’m being honest. If it wasn’t for his chest moving, I would have thought that he was. I have never seen anyone sleep so sound before. He must have taken his shirt off while I was sleeping.

His chest had to have been sculpted by God when he was in the best mood. His pecs and nipples were my favorite. They had a shape to it that did not look overly muscular. The right amount of thickness and I wanted to lay, touch and lick on it.

His tattoos decorated the top of his chest. Then my eyes traveled down to his abs and again, they were there but not in a way that said he was obsessed with the gym. His arms and even his hands were perfectly paired to complete his body.

We slept on top of his covers, and his pajama pants were still on. I even liked his manly looking feet. They were not beat up the way most men’s feet were. I eased out of bed, careful not to wake him. My dress, purse and heels were next to each other on a corner round chair.

I put my heels on and kept the dress in my hand along with my purse. Halo did not budge. Unfortunate thing must have been tired. We did a lot of drinking and eating last night. After I ordered my Lyft ride, I walked down the hall, and I opened his front door.

As soon as I did his brother’s Greek and Golden were on the other side.

Greek had the key in the door. If I was light skin, then they would have saw my entire face turn red.

It was early in the morning. I was sneaking out of their brother’s apartment with his t-shirt on and my dress in my hand. Instead, I smiled and spoke.

“Hi! Good morning, I um, I was just heading out.”

Greek moved out of the way with a smirk on his face, “Morning Story, don’t let us keep you.”

Golden had a huge grin on his face, and he moved out of the way too. “Morning, Sugga, cool to see you again.”

I snickered because he sounded like a younger version of my grandfather. I walked past them and they went inside. Walking down the hall to the elevator I blew out of my mouth.

“Yo’ Story.”

I turned around when I heard my name being called. It was Golden jogging towards me.

“I wanted to come to you and apologize for last night. Sometimes I drink and do the fucking most. My bad for making you feel uncomfortable and disrespected.”

Golden had that same unique eye color just like his brother’s and that was the first thing that made me compassionate towards him. Also, what Halo told me last night about the three of them. I decided to hug him.

“It’s forgiven Golden, just don’t do it again.”

He was like a kid who was giving a second chance from a teacher. I have to say out of all three, Golden’s smile had to be the most innocent one. It was funny because this man was far from innocent.

“I’ll see you later Golden.”

“Bet.” He turned around and jogged back to Halo’s apartment.

I pushed the button to the elevator and stepped inside. Six floors down later I got off and my ride pulled up outside. Just as I stepped into the bright morning sun, Siren called me.

I answered immediately and I told her to meet me at my place so we could fill each other in. There were some parts that I decided to leave out, like the personal conversation Halo shared with me. I felt that needed to stay between us.

As my ride drove me home, I replayed me and Halo’s night in my mind. I had a bunch of mixed feelings about it. In my perfect world I would allow myself to be giggly and smitten. But that wasn’t my destiny, Halo could not be mine.
