Story #3
Talking about how I feel about him was not something I wanted to do right now. There was still some hesitation when it came to us. But to be clear, he has had my heart since we met and even when we broke up. I tried to get it back from him, but it is what it is.
Halo did what I hoped, and he let the subject go. We went back to the living room and dining room where everyone was at. More people came, including Regan and Brian, with even more gifts and cards. It was a nice turnout.
Blake and Siren gave a good speech and talked a little about their process of selecting their dream house.
Then they thanked Brian and everyone else for coming and supporting them.
It was getting late and some people were starting to leave.
Regan and Brian left because they both had work in the morning.
My sister told me she would call me tonight to get any teas she missed.
Hendrix and Carter were moving the gifts into the second bedroom. I went over to Blake and Siren to give them and hug. They were next to Greek and Golden, so I did the same to them and said goodbye.
“You dippin’ out without our brother knowing?” Greek pondered.
I chuckled and responded, “Um no, I’m tired and ready to go home.”
“I’on believe that shit. Yo! Halo!” Golden shouted loudly over the music to Halo who was across the room talking to three guys.
I dropped my mouth open looking at Golden like he was nuts. Greek, Blake, and Siren were cracking up.
“Story tryna leave without telling you bye!” He continued yelling and had his finger over my head. Like a child snitching on another kid in the classroom.
“What! Is! Wrong! With! You!” I hit him on his arm in between rant.
All he did was find my anger hilarious like everyone else did. I went and grabbed my coat from the hallway then went out the front door. I got to the last step on the porch and put my short peacoat on.
“That’s how we doin’ Story? You weren’t going to tell me that you were leaving so I could at least walk you to your ride? It’s eleven at night.” Halo closed the door behind him looking mad then he walked down the porch to me.
“It wasn’t like that Halo. You were talking and I just figured we’d talk later the phone.”
“I don’t give a shit who I was talking to. You should have came and got me.” He started walking with me to my car.
“Golden is so dramatic.” I rolled my eyes.
“Naw, he knew you was on some bullshit. What are your plans for Friday?” He leaned against my back door and asked.
“I’m free that day, I don’t work.”
“Spend that day with me. I wanna take you out.”
Why was I blushing! “Okay, Halo. I’ll spend my day with you.”
He bit his bottom lip. His dimples were revealed when he did that. “I just knew you were about to make me beg.”
“Nope. Not this time.” We both laughed at what I said.
Then he got serious and said, “I’m so glad to have you back in my life Story. For real, it feels good.” He pulled me close to him by the middle of my coat.
“I ain’t drunk and neither are you so we can’t blame nothing on what I’m about to do.” His lips were on mine and I did not stop him.
We hadn’t kissed in three years, I’ve dreamed about this moment. Especially when I was doing his hair the other day. The kiss was sweet and we both fell into it. Our tongues entered each other’s mouths.
He pressed me closer to him. My hands went on the back of his neck. The cold disappeared and the heat from the kiss kept us warm. The front door to Blake and Siren’s house opened and that broke the mood. I was still in his arms looking him in his eyes.
“I need to get home Halo.” I softly told him.
He moved out of the way and opened my car door. “Good night, Story. Text me when you make it safely. Then I’ll call you when I get home.”
I promised him that I would. I got inside of my car, and he watched me drive off.
Regan called me while I drove and I talked to her the whole way. I told her about Golden nutty outburst when I was leaving, and she thought it was funny too.
“Ugh. I promise that I will call my leasing office in the morning. What is the point of me living in a gated community of the damn gate is broken and open wide.” I angrily said when I arrived at my apartment, I took her off speaker and put her on my phone.
“Make sure you do that because it’s apart of the lease agreement. They need to fix that asap.” Regan concurred with me.
I kept talking to her when I made it inside and locked my door. Regan and I joked about Brian being my realtor when I was ready for a house. I made it to my room then put her on speaker while I undressed and took a shower.
Before I did so, I texted Halo and told him that I was home. He let me know that he would call me later tonight. I then let him know that I would try to stay up.
“I still can’t believe you had an abortion when we went back home to Arizona. Having one is not my issue. I just never wanted you to go through something like that alone.” Regan bought it up.
I was now in my kitchen getting me a bottle of water. “I know Regan and I’m sorry about that. I just wanted to get it over and done with. Keanu and I did not need a baby at all. I was right to think so because he had a secret life.”
“Men like that are so despicable. A wife and a child! I’m glad you killed that baby too. When the time is right, you’ll be a mother.”
I climbed into my bed. “You’ll be first then maybe I’ll think about it.”
“On that note sleep tight my baby sister!” Regan ended the call fast.
It was so funny because she always said she did not want kids. I got comfortable in my bed and turned my TV on. After I picked a movie.
I watched it until my eyes closed. Deep into my sleep my eyes bolted open when something covered my mouth. I then was yanked out of my bed and my legs kicked all over.
“Stupid bitch. You killed my baby, now I’ma kill you.”
Before I could realize what was going on my head was slammed against the wall. My vision became blurry until I passed out.
